Boosting your immune system to fight the coronavirus : What you need to know

I am sharing a guide written by Dr. Bret Scher and Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt, which can be read in full at Diet Doctor site - see link below

"Can you boost your immune system to fight COVID-19?

This is the question on everyone’s mind as we face a worldwide crisis. We don’t yet know how to fully prevent or manage the damage caused by COVID-19, the disease caused by a coronavirus that is new to us all.

We see online claims that we can “boost” our immune system with just about everything from Vitamin C or Vitamin D to essential oils and silver nanoparticles. But how do we know which of these recommendations, if any, really work?

That’s a tough question to answer, mainly because the immune system is not “one thing” that we can easily measure. It’s an intricate and delicate system with many different components. Helping one section might impair another, or boosting a certain section may have nothing to do with fighting viruses.

That makes knowing what to do challenging. Plus, how do we know if something that helps with another virus will help with this new coronavirus? As you can see, there is much we simply cannot know.

Finally, if you are older or have an underlying health condition (including diabetes and high blood pressure), you have an increased risk of severe symptoms, and potentially, loss of life from COVID-19. We recommend taking every precaution to avoid it.

If you’re young and otherwise healthy, your risk of complications is much lower. If you do contract the virus, you’ll probably have mild symptoms and fully recover within a couple of weeks.

However, it’s possible that you may be infected with the virus without showing any symptoms. So maintaining excellent hygiene and practicing social isolation are crucial to avoid spreading it to high-risk individuals."

A healthy immune system is ALWAYS desirable. Mine is compromised so I make a point of trying to eat healthily, take some excercise and avoid stress. And areas of contagion.

Common sense things seem to be the best--or garlic, lots of garlic, it'll keep most people 6 feet away (said in jest).

A friend from around here was disappointed that she tested negative after feeling ill, she wanted it to be positive and then feel immunized. However it might not turn out like this, it in fact can turn out like the case of Nick Cordero (Broadway actor.) He is 41 years old, he's in comma, leg amputated and with lots of other issues...not waking up from a coma...etc, etc.I was surprised when she said that considering too that she's around 60-62 years old. Staying away from people as much as possible sounds good. We will start church this coming Sunday May 10th with the order of our bishop. I am making a scared face now. Thanks for advice and keep well and safe!!

I am always a hermit...always "self-isolating"...but the times I do venture out to the supermarket during this period - which is once a week, or ten days, I keep to the distance from others as instructed. It is commonsense to do so...and respect/consideration for and of others. It's to the benefit of all...

Along with my usual daily fresh fruits, vegies etc., I am taking some supplements to boost whatever...This is the first time I've taken vitamin supplements in years...but why not, I say! Years ago, in the early 80s I had a green-grocery/health food shop...and at the moment my kitchen is a little like that...my usual citrus fruits abound...along with a large bag of grapefruit and limes dropped at my back door by my neighbours up the road...and a bag of lemons off my own tree...and the vitamin containers! :)

Keep taking good care! :)

At least we have all been getting lots of sunshine. Good thing this didn't hit us in mid-Winter?

I think I am turning into a hermit -- voluntarily. While we still have some social distancing, so many aren't sticking to the guidelines with masks and distance. Who knows what they're doing at home. I am modifying my walking times to encounter fewer people (with varying degrees of success). Meanwhile, I'm doing all I can to stay healthy for as long as possible. And it really isn't a hardship for me because I'm retired and not missing job income. But I see others -- so many with so little patience. I wonder how it will all end, but I'm thinking not well.

Thanks so much for coming over to my blog. I always love your visits!
