A Bit About Britain and a nice Roast Beef Dinner

I guess to most of us 'there's no place like home' and many may also say 'home is where the heart is'. Living in the UK, or Britain, as many refer to it, there are some wonderful places to visit.

You may have already read in earlier blog posts, one of our favourite places is the Lake District ... the scenery is just wonderful.

Another lovely place to visit is Mudeford, down in Dorset, again a lovely part of Britain. There is always something to see and do and the fresh fish stall on the quay has some great choices.

Now, many of you know I love blogging and have 'met' some great people out in 'blog-land'. One such person is Mike, he loves travelling around Britain, so much so that he has a blog about his travels. He says "A Bit About Britain is a personal project that aims to inspire, inform and entertain. If you’re looking for ideas for places to visit, you should find some inspiration in the growing Attraction Directory. If you like stories, hopefully you will like browsing the articles, or posts, on his blog. These are aimed at people who are just interested in the topic, or want enough information to provide a taster about a place, and put it in context, but who don't want to wade through a dry academic tome or detailed guide book - yet. Or perhaps you'd like to take a gentle stroll through Britain's regions... but, whatever you do, don't take it too seriously."

I wish Mike well on his endeavors - so far so good, it's quite a task he's taken on - why not go over and visit his blog ... but before you do may I interest you in a very traditional British Sunday Roast?

I don't think there is a better known British meal than Roast Beef. I think you could perhaps call it the national dish of Great Britain and loved by almost everyone. But is there a good or better way to cook the perfect roast beef. It is actually very easy as you can see with these handy tips here

Thanks for reading - and have a great Sunday

All the best Jan

Hello Jo
I do agree with you ... ours is a lovely country and there are so many beautiful places to visit. I've not yet been to Lands End or John o' Groats and there are still many places in-between that I must try and visit.

More details about that here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land%27s_End_to_John_o%27_Groats

Roast Beef is a great dish isn't it and I can understand your liking for Yorkshire puddings.

Have a lovely Bank Holiday Weekend

All the best Jan

Those are two places we did not make it to while living in England, and they do look lovely, we hope to one day make it back. We have kept in contact with two close families we made friends with and it has been 16 years since we have lived there, Beautiful country!

Hello Connie
There are so many lovely places to visit in Britain, as indeed many countries! I think it's so lovely that you have kept in touch with those two families. I hope that you can "make it back" at some point in the future.

Wishing you a pleasant weekend, it's a special one in the US isn't it!

Every year at Christmas or New Year's we have a prime rib roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding. (Used to get the suet free but now the butcher charges for it.) Recipe handed down from my husband's British grandmother. And each year I make her fabulous steamed Christmas pudding with hard sauce. Lovely.

Oh Jan, I've always wanted to visit the UK. The Lake District is so pretty.....and peaceful. There's nothing quite like a good roast, and I didn't realize that it was a favorite in Britain.

Just wanted to say that Yes, of course, you can use the "stressed" quote on a post sometime. Isn't it delightful? I saw it and smiled right away.

Have a relaxing Sunday, Jan.

Hi Jan,
What gorgeous pictures. I've heard so much about the lake district. I'd love to see it some day.

Lowcarb team member said...

Hello Sheri
I think the Lake District is one of the best places in Britain/the UK to visit, although I'm sure there are others that may prefer another part of our lovely Island!
I've always found that Roast meals are very popular here, especially at family gatherings.

Thanks for letting me know about the 'stressed' quote ...it did make me smile too!
Hope you are having a good weekend.

I spent an entire day in London between flights one year, toured some very popular sights and loved every minute of it! I hope to visit for an extended period some day and come back with hundred of photos. Perhaps it will happen!

And thank you for another wonderful recipe. I hope your weekend was terrific.

The weekend has been good so far, thank you.
We have a three day Bank Holiday in the UK, which is great, so for many no work on Monday.

Hey, Jan - I have come across this post and I don't think I can have thanked you for the lovely mentions! There's certainly no comment from me to that effect, which is very rude - though it is difficult keeping track of all the sites we all follow. ANYWAY - apologies and grateful thanks. And I do love a nice piece of roast beef!
