Good luck America

Hi folks thank you again for comments on my recent posts. Now, whether you love President Trump or detest the man, whether you vote Republican or Democrat, I reckon any straight thinking ordinary person in the US, must be appalled at the way the Kavanaugh debacle has played out. Remember, almost all involved are University educated and highly qualified people. Many, if not all, are highly paid, and should be pillars of their community's, Americas best and brightest. All I can say is good luck America, you need all the luck you can get.

Now, you may be thinking I am anti American, but I am not I can assure you. We have an old saying in the UK "When America sneezes the world gets a cold" usually, what's good for America is good for us. Ordinary working Americans had a car long before the average worker in the UK, the same goes for colour TV's etc. call that the good stuff. Unfortunately we also get the bad stuff.

The collapse of Lehman Brothers very near wrecked the worlds financial system. Nothing seems to have changed, only the numbers, which have dramatically increased since the 2008 recession. The next big 'bust' will make 2008 look like a minor hiccup according to many of the Wall Street pundits. The fact that the big one is coming is a certainty, but when? As I have said, what happens in America, has a habit of happening here.

One of the comments received on my recent post asked "How is Brexit going" pitifully is the best way to describe the situation over the last two years. Don't you Americans think you have a monopoly on lying, cheating, fear mongering, idiotic and greedy politicians. Don't forget, our ruling class has had centuries more experience than your lot as far as duplicity, skulduggery and theft goes. We have produced some of the finest bullshitters in the history of the world.

Here is something that we appear to have imported from the US, lunacy in our most hallowed places of learning. They also have their 'safe spaces' perish the thought these poor souls will ever have to join the real world.

Anyway, stay cool my friends, we have got this far in our lives, I reckon we still have some mileage left in us. Some of us have got to three score years and ten, and some of it has been fun.

Eddie

Manchester student union 'bans' clapping to avoid triggering anxiety.

Clapping has been "banned" at University of Manchester Students’ Union events in a bid to avoid triggering anxiety and improve accessibility for students attending events.

According to a report in the student newspaper The Mancunion, students are instead encouraged to use the BSL "jazz hands" to express their support.

...perhaps the whole world is going mad. Being angry and feeling privilege seems to be the thing these days. We need a hell lot more than 'luck.'

Yes, you are definitely right about what happens in America affects the rest of the world as well. I spoke to a Canadian lady recently and she said exactly what you said regarding the subject matter. Also, YES, SADLY, our extreme liberal BS here in America has gone WAY TOO FAR! So much so that we are raising a generation of idiots and cry babies (I have a better word for it personally, but I will refrain from using it here). Not to mention the entitlement attitude that goes with it.

I just shake my head every single day! BTW, I am neither party. But extremism is dangerous no matter how you slice it as is the politically correct nonsense.

I wonder how much could be accomplished if the political parties worked together instead of fighting.

I honestly thought the whole bit about "Jazz Hands" was a joke when I read the story a few days ago - I should have known better. Honestly, some days I don't know whether to laugh or cry! How are these "snowflakes" - and yes I think that's a good word for them - ever going to manage to cope in the real world? And if the next recession/depression is as bad as feared what are they going to do with themselves? Some days I just turn off the TV, put the classical station on the radio and enjoy a good book!

I was just talking to my friend today while we were at lunch. I was surprised that it appears this guy is going to be confirmed. It would be one thing if Kavanaugh was allowed or limited to a specific term, but he gets to serve on the highest court in the (u.S.) land and become an influence for the rest of his life.

I worry about so many things that could possibly come before the Supreme Court in the next few years, like overturning Roe V Wade (abortion rights) and cases involving the environment (Trump has already given mining, milling, and other environmental rights away on public land and has stated climate change is a hoax).

I'm glad you brought this up, Eddie. It was good to read that it is not just those of us in the states who worry about this man's morality and ethics if (and more than likely when) he is confirmed. I worry that the bully leading our country and the bully who will be part of our Supeme Court will have similar, if not the same agendas.

I know you are not anti-American, Eddie. It is not a United States-thing. It is a human-thing.

I try not to let it get me down. The pendulum swings both ways. But it is hard to retain optimism when climate change threatens to make entire species extinct.

George Pereira: ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, SIR! You speak common sense truth ... period! Funny how too many Americans (and others) have selective memory and quickly forget such things!

I believe the lunacy in the USA is from our 'commander in chief' who is not very respected by many here ~ but still have who bow to his whims and bullying ~

Happy Day to you,

Honestly, I would truly appreciate the Trump haters to refrain from thinking that they have the right to speak for "many or most Americans" ... (SIGH!) Please speak for yourselves ONLY! thanks ... :(

America has just hit rock bottom with the nomination of Cavanaugh.

The world has gone truly nuts. Meanwhile Trumpy who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for Korea and Making America Great Again will still be vilified by those who fear they will be found out.
