Welcome the 1st of March 2026

I'm always pleased when the 1st of March is here because it's nice to think that Spring is just around the corner. The daffodils are springing up well and lots are showing their lovely colourful, cheerful heads.

It's also St David's Day today, and St Patricks Day on the 17th March.
Meteorological spring starts on March 1, while astronomical spring begins this year on 20 March.

"The Month Of March
“March” is named for the Roman god of war, Mars. However, we think of it as the beginning of spring, as March brings the vernal equinox on the 20th March and also the Full Worm Moon on the 3rd March, more notable this year because it coincides with a total lunar eclipse.

March’s birth flower is the daffodil, which signifies regard or unrequited love.

March’s birthstone is the aquamarine; its colour can be pale to dark blue, greenish-blue, or blue-green; deep, intense blue versions are more valuable.

March’s Zodiac signs are Pisces (February 20 to March 20) and Aries (March 21 to April 20).

March weather can bring rain and mud! Sprinkle salt on carpets to dry out muddy footprints before vacuuming.

We have been getting a lot of sunshine lately, as sign that spring is on its way.

In my area we never know whether March will be spring or still winter. My fingers are crossed it will be spring. But either way, the days are much longer and spring is not far behind. Happy March to you Jan. That daffodil photo is a great way to start the new month.

I didn't know that Daffodils signify unrequited love. How sad for such a cheery flower. Thanks for the Cheesecake recipe. It looks delicious.

Lovely daffodils - they are such a cheerful flower! Interesting information about the month of March, too. I am married to an Aries, the ram, very headstrong, but ambitious :) I hope I can see the eclipse and the moon. It is described as something very amazing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate! The cheesecake looks delicious - thanks for sharing that :) So happy that spring is almost here. We made it through another winter! x K

Happy March Jan. My partner's birthday is St Patrick's Day! Hoping the rain eases up here so I can get out walking a wee bit and get photos. Crocuses and Snow Drops are starting to appear! :-D

In South Florida we don't seem to have spring. We go from our winter back to hot summer. The cheesecake looks really good.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant Hapus!
But what a day! Thank goodness, here in the actual place where Dewi Sant, Saint David, Patron Saint of Wales was born we have a week-long festival of events which culminate today with many outdoor events which this year have been sadly cancelled due to the horrible weather! Our annual St Davids Day Parade happened yesterday with hundreds of people coming from all over to take part. Our Eisteddfod was on Friday, our mini marathon yesterday, along with outdoor markets, and pop up Welsh food cafes in halls and meeting rooms. Windows have been filled with bunches of daffodils, bunting, and flags and the whole city-village looks splendid. Maybe next year, the weather will be kinder! March, for this year, has come in like a lion, so perhaps she will leave like a lamb?

That photo is so bright, I almost need sunglasses! Oh the glow of spring! March tends to be the month when we receive the most snow.
