Avocados definitely a great food !

You may have already seen the recent reports about Avocado, but in case you haven’t and would like to read more the link is here.

It’s interesting to note that in the report, linked above, it was stated “the results do provide promising clues and a basis for future research to determine avocados' effect on satiety, glucose and insulin response.” I am not a diabetic, but Eddie is a Type 2 diabetic, and avocados are a great way to help maintain his good blood sugar control, so it‘s something you may wish to think about.

Included in my weekly menu plan, I often buy avocados. They may not be one of the cheaper foods, but if you shop wisely you can often buy two packs for the price of one, it’s a case of keeping your eyes open for special offers.

Avocados are great with prawns, or add them to a salad. They are low in carbs and high in fats so if you are following a LCHF lifestyle they are brilliant.

A couple of recipe ideas you may wish to try

                                       Avocado Pear with Prawns

Avocado Pear with Prawns, a splash of 1000 Island Dressing and Paprika.

Salad with Avocado Pear and Bacon Lardons

These recipes and more can be found on our food blog here.

This is an excellent dish if you want to reduce BG numbers to non diabetic, if you want to lose excess weight, if you want to stay fit and healthy, this is great low carb high fat food. A salad made from iceberg lettuce, bacon lardons, avocado pear, olives, tomatoes, feta cheese, extra virgin olive oil, add some black pepper and a tiny amount of salt. In fact great food for all, whether diabetic or not.

Enjoy …..

All the best Jan
