Do Statins Damage Beta Cells?

"Cholesterol-lowering statins can directly increase the risk of diabetes, according to research published on Wednesday.
Statins have previously been associated with higher rates of type 2 diabetes, but it was not clear whether the drugs were responsible. Now a study has produced strong evidence that the drugs’ basic mechanism can lead to weight gain and a modest increase in diabetes risk"

Just a thought - Do statins worsen type 2 diabetes? Do they have a risk of damaging /killing beta cells?

  1. Hi John

They had Dr Hillary Jones on breakfast TV this morning discussing statins-although he acknowledged statins caused unpleasant side effects-he basically said in so many words that they were worth putting up with! Just as big pharma likes it eh? tsk... :(
