Diabetes drugs may promote heart failure, study finds

Patients who manage type 2 diabetes with drugs that lower glucose or blood sugar may be at higher risk for heart failure.

Dr. Jacob Udell, cardiologist, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, University Health Network (UHN) and Women's College Hospital (WCH) discusses the main findings of a new study published in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology (March 2015), which found that medications used to treat diabetes may trigger heart failure.

    Don't get too excited. I went to the source to find the drugs that cause heart failure. It seems that this is just a high level overview that does not get into details. In particular I did not find any drugs by name listed.

    Many of the newer diabetes drugs are coming under scrutiny also older drugs like Sulphonylureas are linked with mortality.
