Happy Wednesday !

Yes, it's Wednesday ... the middle of the week. I do hope that the week is going well for you. Here in the UK most school aged children have returned to school after the Easter/Spring break. Our grandchildren went back to school after enjoying their two weeks at home ... they had parties to go to, activities to keep them amused. Wellington Boots were put on as they enjoyed a walk in the rain ... it certainly didn't dampen their spirits! LOL!

Eddie and I had the opportunity of joining in with some of their fun ... it's always a joy spending time with them, and we always cherish the happy memories times like this can bring.

Only the other day as well as being Grandma I had fun being 'Barbie' and a 'Power Ranger' all in one day ... yes, I know the mind boggles! Shame we didn't take any photographs! LOL!

Today, it's some household chores and shopping ... we need a few more vegetables. Among many other items broccoli and peppers, especially red ones are on the list ... and some mushrooms too.

I wonder have you a favourite vegetable?

Whatever you have planned today, I wish you a good one.

All the best Jan

  4. Happy Wednesday to you, Jan. Sounds like you had a marvelous time with the grandchildren. I love vegetables, but a favorite of mine is yellow squash.
We purchased fresh strawberries at the local market yesterday. They are delicious!
    Enjoy your day.

  5. I love the rain, too! So sad I hardly see my Nieces.
And my fav is Brussels Sprouts - I so enjoyed your soup and am sad season is over! On the other hand now I have something to look forward to in the dark half of the year.
Red pepper, mushrooms, onion and rice with a beaten egg, spicy, soon.

  6. I don’t know whether I have a favourite vegetable but bell peppers would rank high on the list. They are staple items for us and we use them in so many dishes, and when we are out for the day and take a packed lunch with us, we slice them up and have them as snacks.

  7. My fave veggies vary, but at the moment I'm very fond of fennel! Glad you enjoyed Easter with the grandchildren. Hugs, Valerie

  9. Happy Wednesday to you, too. It's a perfect day and the sun is shining, so I love the bouquet of tulips you shared.

I'm a vegetarian, so asking about a favorite veggie would be like me asking which of your grandchildren you like best (grin)!

BTW, I missed the cream post, so am off to check it out, too.

I have been many characters in my Grandchildren lives.

My favourite vegetable is asparagus which should be coming into season shortly.
    The other is broad beans.

So looking forward to all the glorious fruit and veg the UK produce during the Summer season.

    Enjoy this glorious weather Jan.

  14. It's nice to hear your grands enjoyed their break--two weeks! Only one week for our's. We seem to eat the same vegetables over the winter--so we're looking forward to fresh ones from the farmer's markets this summer. None the less, my veggie drawer is always full of carrots and broccoli and cauliflower, red peppers, celery and greens. My favorite vegetable is broccoli! Have a happy Wednesday, my friend. ♥

  17. Hi Jan, time with the grandchildren is always the best time! I can't think of a vegetable I don't like, except for maybe eggplant. I bought some red peppers this week. They just look so bright while we wait for spring. Hope you have a little sunshine for your week. xo Karen

  19. I like the character roles. Playing with figurines with my grands I was given the least liked one, they had a hard time deciding what ones they would use.

  21. Long day at work getting ready to head to the Dry Tortugas on Friday...

As for vegetables, we have a plot in the community garden and I have enjoyed cabbage, turnips, rutabaga all winter, so they were my favorite winter vegetables. But peppers grow well, too. They started producing in June last year and keep going till the ice storm in early January.

I have decided to consolidate my two blogs (one is more professional) as I can’t see any reason to keep working on them both. In a strange way this feels like I’m coming out of the closet as I haven’t written about my livelihood. Most of my posts from now on will be at www.thepulpitandthepen.com

    You’re welcome to stop by.

  25. Jan,
I am interested, does the UK grow most of the veggies or do you have to import a lot. Here in Wisconsin during the winter a lot of our veggies come from Mexico or other Central American countries.
Once our garden season starts I am blessed that we produce most of our veggies. I am so thankful for that. I am more and more concerned about where our food comes from.

Hello Carla, and many thanks for your comment and question.
"The UK imports vegetables from only a few suppliers, mainly European, in fact 85% of imports come from the old continent. In 2012 the main supplier was Spain (33%), followed by Holland (28%) and France (10%)."

I know some in the UK who like to grow and use their own vegetables (and fruit) in the summer months. Even growing a few herbs indoors can be lovely to use in home cooking.

My good wishes to you, have a lovely Friday and enjoy your weekend.

    All the best Jan

My favourite vegetable is spinach, but my favourite raw vegetable would either be turnip or radishes, or cauliflower!
