A Perfect Bargain !

This is a sort of a re-post, because back in 2015, I got myself a bargain!

Looking back, I had enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon having a mooch around our local shops. It was very nice to spend time 'mooching' as I like to call it.

Those were the days before Covid, because of course at the moment due to lockdown the types of shops that both Eddie and I love looking around e.g. antique shops, old book shops, charity shops are all closed! However, on that particular day back in 2015 I was looking in a local hospice charity shop and this caught my eye.

First I love pink, as anyone who knows me would confirm. The grandchildren at quite a young age knew Grandma's favourite colour is pink. It was my mums favourite colour too, so she may have influenced me there ...

I adore looking at pink roses, pink carnations, pink apple blossom, and there are so many different shades of pink. For some reason it always catches my eye and I find it to be a calming colour.

So, to come back to the picture above. I picked up this bargain for just £1-50, and when I got home did some research on it. It is made by Hadida Fine Bone China and it said 'Made In England'. Back in 2015 there was one being offered for sale on ebay for £14-99, and recently a similar item was being advertised for £62-00!
Needless to say I was pleased with my purchase and to this day, it still looks excellent on my side.

Happy days and memories.

Have you bought a bargain recently?

All the best Jan

  2. Going to those kind of shops is one of my favorite things to do, but unfortunately it's been almost a year now since I've visited any. You definitely got a nice bargain!

Hello Tom, thanks for your comment.
I didn't realise mooch could mean so many different things

For me it means to wander about aimlessly :)

Enjoy the rest of your week.

  5. I love this...I love pink, too. Though I don't really have a favorite color. But I LOOOOVVVVEEEE pink dogwoods...that is one of my favorite flowers. I like the white ones, but prefer pink.

I would love to go munching as you call it...I have not been anywhere other than grocery, walmart, and the quilt shop in ages. Just to be able to get out and do that would be so much fun.

  6. That is truly gorgeous.
I went into an op-shop (Australian for opportunity shop aka charity shop) recently and picked up three books for very little money. I shouldn't have, and don't regret the purchase at all.

  7. That's a beautiful find. I like "mooching" around shops, too, but haven't done much of that recently, and I don't think I've ever found anything worth very much. I pick up odd bits of china that I find pretty.

  9. I, too, love pink in all its shades! That is certainly a pretty piece. I found a concrete urn for only $3, so I got it for plants in the yard. Then, I found a table in a trash heap on the side of the road. It was heavy metal with a glass top--free. It only needed a bit of sanding and spray paint.

  11. That sure is pretty and what a great price you got it for. Though red is my favorite color, pink is up there too. No bargains for me lately - haven't gone just looking for such a long time now. Sure look forward to it though.

  20. Lovely piece! And an excellent bargain, too! We check in at charity shops, too, just to see what's there. We are currently appreciating many of the books we've picked up, since our library has been closed. We always try to buy used if we can and we like knowing that when we buy something at a charity shop, the money goes to help people or critters! 🙂

  24. You have a great eye. Not only is it beautiful, but for such a deal!!!

My hubby and I used to visit a lot of antique shops, thrift shops, and flea markets, and I look forward to returning to some of them once the pandemic is under control. It won't be quite the same doing it on my own, but I'll still enjoy looking for a special "find" or two to decorate our home. These days, all of my "deals" come virtue of good ol' Amazon. The last order I received is a stationary bike, which I had to assemble. No problem there, and I've been using it every day. Only problem is it makes my butt hurts like a son of a gun. Not enough fat, I reckon, so I ordered a pair of bike shorts with a padded bottom. They're supposed to get here tomorrow, and I'm hoping they'll enable me to up my mileage without crippling myself. HA

    Take care.

  25. First off ..I too love thrifting and looking for treasures. That is a beautiful treasure you have there. Quite a find it seems also.

Hope you and Eddie are doing well. I haven't checked on your part of the world weather wise because my focus keeps going to Texas when looking at the news.

  27. It's a beautiful piece. I can relate to you having memories of visiting shops. Its good to be able share with others because with so many of us having these feelings, it makes us all feel a little less isolated.
