Queen Elizabeth II has died

It was very sad hearing the announcement today that Queen Elizabeth II,
the UK's longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral aged 96.

Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874,
and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975.

She held weekly audiences with her prime minister throughout her reign.

At Buckingham Palace in London, crowds awaiting updates on the Queen's condition began crying as they heard of her death.

The union flag on top of the palace was lowered to half-mast at 18:30 BST and an official notice announcing the death was posted outside.

A state funeral for the Queen is expected in the next two weeks.

A very special lady, she will be missed.

  9. Her legacy will be remembered for decades to come. It is my opinion the monarch as you and even we in the states know it, will drastically change now that she is gone.

  12. She was incredibly hard working and dedicated. I doubt that we will see a Monarch who can fill her very big shoes.

  22. I was sorry to hear about her passing away. She was a great person, hard working and it can't have been easy to become queen at such a young age. It will be tough to step into her shoes and I'm not sure that Charles will be able to.

  23. Her loss is even felt in America where she, as Queen, was a symbol of Great Britain. Of course, she was Queen longer than I've been alive!

  24. It will seem strange when we have new coins and stamps etc without the Queens head on them. She was crowned the year I was born so her face has always been on these things while I've been around. RIP Queen Elizabeth.

  25. When we were watching the news they came on and told us what the doctors had said and the first thing I thought was oh that sounds like she may not make it and then a few hours later we were told of her passing. She worked right up to the end just like she promised she would do. Sending our sympathy for your loss.

  27. She will be missed, but she left in an extraordinary way.
Working at the beginning of the week, leaving at the end. Quick and with dignity.
I know how the other way works, it´s not nice.
She deserved this, I reckon she had a hard, but also happy life, according to her smiles.
Her son sure has to step in very big shoes of that small lady.

  31. I was so very sad about this, though I knew it was inevitable, particularly at her wise age. But she was one of a kind and not one we're likely to see again. Just lovely, she was.
