We will remember them, and say thank you to the brave men and women,
past and present who fight to preserve our freedoms.
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders' fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders' Fields.
After the First World War, the poppy was adopted as a symbol of Remembrance.

Lest we forget....we will remember them indeed! Remembrance Day is so important, and I love the poppy, Jan! Thank you so much for sharing.
I remember memorizing that poem. Here in Canada we will remember especially this coming Tuesday Nov. 11.
Uno nunca debe olvidar ese pasado para no repetir los mismos errores. Bello poema. Te mando un beso.
Here in Germany, it's on November 16th. A very beautiful poem in your memory!!!

Beautiful Remembrance Day post. Our Veterans Day is Nov 11th.
I love the poppies!
Happy Sunday, have a great day!
Undoubtedly an important day, and as you rightly say, one to celebrate; it's part of history.
Best regards
So important to remember. We have Veterans Day this coming week, but it is not celebrated as much as Memorial Day in May.
We will.
I remember seeing that monument in London. So many people gave their lives it is important to remember. And still, we have war today. It's all sad.
...yes, a day to remember!
Beautiful post of remembrance
Lest we forget. I'm reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah at the moment, I know this is a work of fiction but it does bring it home to you just how much ordinary people sacrificed for others.
Beautiful and bittersweet poem
Always & forever. xx
2015 I was in Perth. The Prime Minister came, there was a huge celebration and lots of poppies everywhere and on anybody! Bitter-sweet. More bitter, war is a waste.
A beautiful tribute.
Parabéns pela publicação interessante Jan. Confesso que não sabia sobre esse Dia. É sempre bom lembrar desses fatos e acontecimentos. Parabéns pela homenagem.
We must never forget!!
In Canada, firefighters who have died in the line of duty, like our son, are also remembered on Remembrance Day.

Congratulations on the interesting post, Jan. I confess I didn't know about this day. It's always good to remember these facts and events. Congratulations on the tribute.
Remembrance Sunday was marked in our church this morning, and there will be services at the cenotaphs on the 11th. We must never forget, and we must work towards peace.
A very nice way to remember them.
We will remember them! My Dad was one of the fortunate ones, he returned home to Canada after fighting in World War II.
Thanks for your service
A beautiful tribute!
Remembering their brave sacrifice!
Lest we forget.
Always & forever. xx
My parents asked me to memorize In Flanders Field in 1962. It was unusual for the US, but grateful they did and discussed the history around it. I still can recite it.
One of my favorite poems. Our Veterans Day is tomorrow (same as you, basically). I wish we had poppies.
Thanks for posting this, Jan.
Hello Jan :)
Thank you for this tribute to the brave men and women past and present who fought for freedom and peace. We must never forget to honer their service.
Yes, always remember them!
Precioso homenaje, me gusta. Besos.
My parents and grandparents are buried in the same cemetery in John McCrae's hometown where his family is buried.
