Just imagine Christmas Dinner is almost ready!
The table is laid, the tree is glittering in the background and there waiting on the table are this years Christmas Crackers waiting to be pulled!
It's tradition in our family to always have crackers ... cue the paper hats and of course the jokes! Will they be good ones or groaners!

Here in the UK it is my understanding that there is no age restriction on using Christmas crackers, but it is illegal in the UK to sell crackers to anyone under the age of 12.
Of course it is MOST IMPORTANT to ALWAYS take care and be extra careful with them especially when there are young children around. The novelty items inside are often small and can be choking hazards, particularly for children aged three and under.
We, as a family do enjoy them. They are part of the family tradition and there is almost a competition about whose joke will be the worst and cause us all to groan...

My only concern about these and with fireworks 🎆 is the noise they make and that they scare 😱 animals, both pets and wildlife.
Christmas crackers are a mainstay on my Christmas table, my great-grandchildren are now sharing the tradition :)
I like the silly jokes and toys, especially the curling fish, do they still have those ?
Paper hat wearing is not option :)

This morning I have to take the bus to the weekly market and go for a walk while I'm there, and I'll look at the Christmas window displays. Then I'll have finished everything and I can relax!

The Tinsilitus is my fav!!!! Oh, we first found those crackers 2006 in Perth, Australia - they still not have arrived in Germany. Thank you for the memories - I´ll sure post a pic for Christmas! :-)

Jan - I am definitely chuckling! I am also grateful because I like to have a few holiday jokes on hand when I am working at our local ski resort - whether talking to people in lines or on a ski lift, it helps with the overall mood! My favorite is the one about Good King Wencelas!

Jan wasn't familiar with this British tradition. I looked it up and see that they are part of the Christmas table's decoration and fun: they pop open with a bang, come with a paper hat and a joke, and create a cheerful, family-friendly atmosphere.

we LOVE crackers and i have them for several holidays. we always wear our crowns while we eat dessert..
We bought crackers when we lived in England and then we saw them here in the U.S. when we got back but I haven't seen them the last few years.
