Swans Heart and Swans Sunset ... Midweek Interlude!

~ Two photographs for midweek interlude ~

Swans are known for their graceful movements across water and their unique mating rituals. One of the most recognizable behaviors of mated swans is when they curve their necks together to form a heart shape. This “heart pose” is an endearing symbol of swan courtship and pair bonding. Swans are monogamous birds that mate for life. But why exactly do swans do this heart thing? The reasons are rooted in swan biology and social dynamics and you can read more about this, and swans, here

  10. Swans are such graceful birds. I loved seeing so many Whooper swans in Hokkaido earlier this year enjoying the warm waters of the crater lake. I love seeing when they make that heart shape.

  17. Oh, sadly I get a "403 Forbidden" when I click on the "here"-link. I remember a cousin tried to pet a swan and got bitten for that, so I rather keep the distance ;-)

  24. Hi,
We are blessed to have swans here in our part of Wisconsin. I LOVE them. They stay on the open water on the Red Cedar river in the winter. We are able to appreciate them all year long.

Why are swans not used in falconry? It would be wonderful seeing them land on one's outstretched arm. Just saying !!!
