I did a little shopping today and as well as picking up a few bargains (always welcome) I bought a punnet of strawberries! They looked good and they tasted great ... especially with a little helping of double (heavy) cream.
Did You Know
7 strawberries (80g) provides your recommended daily amount of vitamin C.
In addition to vitamin C, strawberries are an excellent source of vitamin K and manganese, as well as folic acid, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, copper, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids.
As well as the many nutrients strawberries contain, they are also a lower carb fruit. At only 8g carbs per 100grams, if you are living the LCHF lifestyle they can fit in with your menu plans quite well.
Strawberries contain significant levels of phytonutrients and antioxidants which help to fight free radicals (which can damage cells and are thought to contribute to the formation of many kinds of cancer) These antioxidant properties are believed to be linked to what makes the strawberry bright red.
Historic Information
Strawberries were cultivated by the Romans as early as 200 BC. In medieval times strawberries were regarded as an aphrodisiac and soup, made of strawberries, borage and soured cream was traditionally served to newly-weds at their wedding breakfast.
In the sixteenth century strawberries were sold in cone-shaped straw baskets thus becoming one of the earliest packaged foods.
Strawberries were used medicinally to help with digestive ailments, discoloured teeth and skin irritations.

Hello Jan! I love this post because I love strawberries. My home is in the strawberry “capitol” of the Pacific Northwest here in the USA. There is a small town near us, Puyallup, Washington, that even has an annual Strawberry Festival and parade. Our strawberry season is just now getting underway and the image in your post is going to send me to the store! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, Jan, and I send you a hug and best wishes! John
Oh wow! This looks so yummy. I haven't had strawberries in such a long time.
I grew up strawberry and raspberry farm. It been ages since I had cream with them. Sometime I put fruit in my cottage cheese.
I do love strawberries and they are just starting to be in season here.
Jan, I appreciate you sharing this. ❤️ I have never tried strawberries with cream, but I have had blueberries 🫐 with sour cream. Delicious 😋
If 7 Strawberries provides all my vitamin C for today I'm set! Strawberries are now in full swing here in B.C. and I'm enjoying them as often as possible.
Such fun things about strawberries, Jan. Ours are just beginning to come on and ripen a handful at a time They are so yummy.
A simple but splendid dessert!
I’d really love some strawberries too, but right now I can't get to the market because of the weather!
Good to know about the strawberries.
happy day , hugs Elke
Good history of the strawberries, Jan. Love them.
I love strawberries but they are not always as nice as they look. Too many are bright red, but white inside and tart. I remember childhood strawberries as being red all the way through and sweet.
My wood-strawberries my Mum picked... "stole" with me in 1974 I took to Braunschweig survived the winter again and hmmmm... yummy. They are too tiny for cream but I´ll have an eye out at the grocery! Thank you for the infos, too, Jan!
I do love strawberries, I usually add some to my yogurt.
Take care, have a great day!
Strawberries seem to have earned their reputation over centuries—delicious, nutritious, and bright enough to cheer up any fruit bowl; while I enjoy many fruits, a perfectly ripe strawberry is hard to beat
I love strawberries with cream... yum :))
Hugs, Andreja!
I do like strawberries a lot :-D
I love strawberries., I can't imagine making soup with them, though. I'm sure it tastes delicious.
Yummy
...strawberry time is a wonderful time of year!
Strawberries are the queen of fruit for certain. I wish I had some right now because they would taste amazing. Have a super rest of your day Jan.
Who doesent love a strawberry :-) I'm picking them from my garden and the allotment at the moment and they are so good.
Mmmmm, strawberries
This was one of my mom's favorites!
Strawberries with cream: that's a great idea.
Strawberries are my favorite. We're growing them and they're so much better and naturally sweeter than from the store!
We love strawberries in this house. We need to watch portions due to the potassium for Mr. M's CKD. But you can't beat strawberries and cream. Have a good day, Jan.
Strawberries are my favourite fruit all year round.
Even more reason to plant a few more strawberries in my garden. They're just starting to ripen and are a real treat.
I so love strawberries, look forward to fresh grown every spring, they always seem to taste better.
I like strawberries as a second favourite next to blueberries.
I love strawberries, I don't need cream I can just eat with a thin dusting of sugar.
Oh my josh Jan, I love strawberries, Jan. So good. Regarding your comment, same, I'm sticking with blogger too. Sometimes I think about a recipe site but for fun blogs, I'm a blogger girl too. Wishing you a great weekend.
I love strawberries! and eat them as is, after washing of course.
I like almost all fruits but strawberries in season are one of the best. Which reminds me, it's time to go to the strawberry farm!
I love strawberries and also the dessert you can make with whipped cream and sugar. Ahhh! And strawberry jam is my favorite.
Las fresas me gustan, ahora las recojo para hacer mermelada. Besos.
We have had a lot of strawberries from the garden this year. We all love them in this family.
