There are Good People Out There . . .

Sharing Some Thoughts - There are Good People Out There . . .

In this often crazy and mixed up world we find ourselves in there are many good people. The un-sung heroes very often go un-noticed as they give their time willingly to help others.

Whether you go past charity shops, or visit a local hospital there are volunteers helping out. Some local churches have a weekly Soup Run to help the homeless. It’s not only people who need helping out these days as I’ve seen animal rescue hospitals asking for dog and cat food to be donated.

Of course, if you work full time it is more difficult …..you are no doubt looking for 26 hours in your day just to fit family life in, let alone giving time to help others.

No matter what our situation we can perhaps still help someone. It may just be helping someone cross the road safely …or even when next out shopping you may find someone struggling to lift something down from too high a shelf …why not offer to lift it down for them. It’s the little things in life that can mean so much to people ….we all hurry getting from A to B and often thinking about what is next on our list of things to do. Only natural of course but sometimes isn’t it nice just to stop …take a deep breath …and smile. People may wonder what you’re doing but I bet they will smile too, and just for that second feel a lot better for it.

Jan looking through those rose tinted glasses again? Well maybe but as we all face different ‘pressures’ I’ve found that by taking time out …and helping someone you can make a difference.

All the best Jan

  1. It does make a difference and we may never know how. My mom had a friend that she helped out with something when they were both first time moms. It was decades later that this woman ran into my mom and after speaking for a few minutes the woman said, "You helping me all those years ago changed my life for the better." My mom told me this story and it has stuck with me. One never knows how we can change the course of a life with kindness.

  2. Hi Jan, this is such an encouraging article! It is so true! We can always do something to help others. Every kind word, donation, time spent, whatever we can do really can...and does make a difference!

  5. Lovely inspiration, Jan! I am a 'rose-colored glasses' kind of gal, too, and truly believe that there are more kind people in this world than not. It's so easy to be kind and it always comes back around when you put out good vibes. x K

  6. I can think of a number of volunteers in my community that help out in thrift shops, and in other places too. The association where my husband helps out is one where surplus food is dried and made into soup mix that is sent overseas to feed the needy is another example. 60 people or more volunteer 5 mornings a week ( most are retired folks but not all).

  7. jan...we are cut from the same cloth. my glasses are rose colored as well. if we could share a cup of tea, and i could tell you about the care i received in the hospital, you would cry....as i did. the nurses, doctors, food staff, volunteers all incredible. i meet so many wonderful, incredible, kind people. each day when i leave the house, strangers make sure i am ok, ask if i need help. chuck used the restroom recently, so i was alone. a man came, asked me if i needed help and asked if he could stay with me until my husband came back. i am a great believer in you get what you give and i smile at everyone, people respond positively. i love people, i will talk to anyone, i have so much faith in the good people who are everywhere!!

  8. I'm the short person trying to get things off high shelves while people walk past ignoring me so I end up going to find a staff member to help. I used to be the checkout person who knew where everything in the store was so customers would ask me and I could say "aisle 6 about halfway down on the right second shelf from the bottom".

  9. We try to remember others…just buying someone a coffee and listening to them…a donation…a hug…it all matters.
    What a sweet post Jan!

  13. Keep those Rosy Glasses on! We all need to remember every word you shared here -- because it's so true. All we hear about (and, often experience) is the chaos. People cutting you off in traffic or rudeness or intolerance. But there are so many truly good people and they deserve our praise and thanks.

  21. Hello Jan :)
I couldn't agree more, and actually believe in Karma so those people who don't lend a helping hand when needed, or care about those who are less fortunate than themselves. will regret their selfish behaviour, because sooner than later what goes around comes around. One day I decided to smile at passers by during a walk. Loads of people recipricated spreding the joy, but there were those who did not, and at first I was left feeling a little foolish but then realized they must be unhappy people. Even if they were trou
