Low carb beats low fat for weight loss + improved cardiovascular risk factors !

“At least six medical studies have been published in the last five years, and most of them showed that, at least as far as losing weight goes, Atkins has a slight edge - greater short-term weight loss was achieved with low-carb diets compared to low-fat diets.

The most recent study was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in July and looked at more than 300 patients who were put on a low-fat or a low-carb diet coupled with a comprehensive weight loss program and followed for two years.

In this longer-term study, both groups lost equal amounts of weight, about 5 pounds. But the low-carb diet resulted in improved cardiovascular risk factors, including greater reductions in blood pressure, triglyceride levels and greater increases in the favourable HDL cholesterol.”
