Simple Baked Chicken Drumsticks

Don't you just love simple recipe ideas ... "I wanted a basic way to cook drumsticks since they are cheaper than the breasts. I didn't want a lot of spice or sauce on it, so if you are looking for that, this is not the recipe for you. We found it just right for us, the flavour of the chicken really comes through.

Ingredients
Serves 2/3
5 - 6 chicken drumsticks

garlic powder
pepper
salt
olive oil

Directions
1. Put some olive oil in the bottom of a 9 X 13 pan (just enough to put the drumsticks on).
2. Add drumsticks (space enough apart so they aren't touching each other).
Sprinkle generously with pepper and garlic powder. Sprinkle lightly with salt.
3. Bake at 375 for half an hour. Turn drumsticks over and add more garlic powder, pepper and salt (same as before).
4. Bake another half an hour (or until cooked). "

Recipe idea from here.

Serve with vegetables of your choice...
Some may like parsnips, others may prefer roasted celeriac.
How about green beans or Brussels sprouts or steamed broccoli
... now what will you choose?

Such a great and simple way to enjoy chicken drumsticks.

All the best Jan

  1. The simple recipes are the best. I've got some drumsticks in the freezer, I was thinking about making southern fried but I may just use them this way instead.

  2. Looks good, Jan, and not difficult to make. My mom always says that drumsticks are best part of the chicken, and moms are always right, aren't they?

  3. After years of eating whole chickens or chicken breasts we are now enjoying the flavor of drumsticks and thighs. Love the recipe and will definitely give it a try.

  4. I like drumsticks because, they are more affordable than chicken breasts. These look great!

  5. Jan, I wish I liked dark meat of chicken but just don't. But this is exactly how I cook chicken breasts and much prefer them this simple way.

I clicked on the interview in another post here at the Fat Emperor site (hope I've got that right?) and listened to part of it, and bookmarked it to go back to. I am enjoying the posts at this site, very informative.

  10. Dewena - I think any cut of chicken tastes great when just cooked simply, and it is important to eat food which tastes good to us, the individual, and suits our dietary needs. Of course for a change it can always be 'jazzed up'! Mediterranean or Italian style for instance ...

I am so pleased you are finding many of the articles on the blog of interest. We do our best to give a wide variety, a sort of magazine style ... something of interest for everyone. That's our aim, but of course at the heart of the blog is the LCHF message.

Hope your week is going well.

  11. Yes I'm a leg man except for chickens yesterday I roasted half a chicken breast wrapped in bacon and ate it with runner beans and a large mushroom fried in olive oil. Sometimes simple cooking just brings out the flavour of the original food.

I like the sound of your chicken breast wrapped in bacon ... may have that for dinner tomorrow night.

Thanks as always for your comments.
