Keep Cool !

Just as forecast our midweek temperatures have been HOT! Up to 32 Celsius has been recorded phew! I must admit I'd rather it be 23 Celsius, but whatever temperature the weather brings we just have to cope as best we can.

Staying hydrated in warmer weather is important, and for me you just can't beat a nice cool drink of water … perhaps with a slice of lemon in it. I keep a jug of cooled water in the fridge, remembering to keep it topped up as necessary.

Our choice of foods can also help keep us cooler and hydrated. Choices like cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries, papaya, grapefruit, butternut squash, cantaloupe and radishes to name a few.

A summer thirst quenching favourite choice could be a watermelon pizza

Of course, not all foods mentioned above may be liked, or indeed suitable for all, so please bear in mind any food allergies, health conditions and with grapefruit, for example, care should be taken if on certain drugs.

On a personal note I am including cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, radishes and strawberries in my menu plan, melon is nice too ... how about you?

All the best Jan

  14. For those who love fruit, like me, any fruit can be refreshing.
Cold water and cold soda water are my favorite cooling beverages.

  16. Love watermelon but I think I like it best plain.
Our summers don't get very hot here by me. Most of the time it feels like one long spring.

  17. I would love to have a watermelon that was as good as one my brother gave us one time...I have always liked watermelon okay, but that one I loved.

  18. that pizza looks divine.

well, we have been making deli sandwiches at home the last two nights. sour dough bread, sliced turkey breast, roma tomatos, red onions, spinach leave, mayonnaise with garlic and onion powder and a slice of provolone on top. It's yummy! We aren't that hot here in the mountains so I'm happy about that.

hope you find cool places literally.

  19. Thankfully, I have air conditioning, because 32 C is lower than I experienced today. Nicely prepared summertime treats, though.

  20. Wondering if I could do this cantaloupe. Not a water mellon.

  21. Cold bottled water flavored with a packet of Crystal Light Lemonade Powder is my go-to drink...after plain cold bottled water (the Mister keeps plenty on hand for me/us). That watermelon pizza looks so delicious! Thanks for the idea.

Wishing You a Happy & Safe Weekend, my friend!

  22. Hot tea over here, with ginger/fresh mint and such :-)
What I find difficult this year: Fruits are horrible. My strawberries were sour, the water melons we bought so far not sweet, raspberries, sour...

  23. Watermelons are annoying because of the pips. I'm afraid I might swallow them and they grow inside me.

    God bless.
