You may be like me, when someone mentions the word pumpkin you automatically think orange! But apparently more of us are considering different colour pumpkins this year. Some family members have told me that they are on the lookout for white pumpkins.
Yes, white pumpkins, once a novelty, are becoming increasingly common in pumpkin patches, and these intriguing white orbs are all the rage when it comes to chic autumn decorating. Maybe it's the ghostly way they stand out on a dark night, or perhaps it's the clean smoothness of their appearance, which sparks creativity. Whatever the draw is, white pumpkins are ideal for growing, displaying, carving, and eating.
What is a White Pumpkin?
A white pumpkin is a pumpkin variety that has been selectively bred to feature white or ivory skin. The varieties widely range in size and shape. White pumpkins are also known as an albino pumpkin, ghost pumpkin, Snowball, Casper, Lumina, Baby Boo, and Cotton Candy Pumpkin.
Uses for a White Pumpkin
White pumpkins are awesome for carving because the skin is not quite as thick as an orange pumpkin's. They are even better for painting, whether you stencil a design or transform them to match your décor by painting them any solid colour of your choice.
White pumpkins provide great contrast in fall gourd and pumpkin displays. However, don't be afraid to think outside the Halloween box. A white pumpkin tied with a red velvet ribbon and positioned atop evergreen boughs would make a lovely holiday season decoration. Like many gourds, white pumpkins stored properly can last through the winter months.
Cooking and Eating White Pumpkin
The flesh inside a white pumpkin is edible, and it can be substituted for orange pumpkin in many recipes, whether you're baking white pumpkin pie or concocting a pumpkin soup. The satiny texture and sweet pumpkin taste of the Lumina variety is excellent for baking. Try using a hollowed-out white pumpkin as an attractive serving tureen.
A white pumpkin's seeds can also be eaten after toasting them in the oven or in a skillet/pan. Additionally, just like typical orange pumpkin, you can bake, scoop, puree, and then freeze white pumpkin.

Orange is traditional isn't it! I'd eat any of them to be fair!
I just baked a white pumpkin amd roasted the seeds. It is less pumpkin-y than the orange ones. It has a much milder taste.

I didn't realize white pumpkins are easier to carve. Good to know! I am more traditional so I do prefer the look of orange pumpkins. Orange is such a happy color.

Me only eat pumpkin…I don’t like to decorate with them 🙈 but once I had a big soft green pumpkin outside my table 🍀that is my favorite to decorate with…enjoy your week….my pumpkinsoup was delicious last weekend …and I have put thre meals in my fridge…😉to enjoy later….love from me and Leaf 🍀🐾💗🍀

I bought a couple of small orange pumpkins to decorate outside. I won't carve them. When Halloween is over, I'll cut the pumpkins in half and put them out in the yard for the critters to enjoy.

Myself, I think pumpkins are only good for jack-o-lanterns. And, orange! Uhmmm maybe white and I love the warty ones. Hmm - don't know.

The meal looks good.
Iwas leaning towards white, but since I only wanted to buy one, I stuck with orange. Tommy is going to draw a face on it with a marker and it will be displayed in a flowerpot on the porch. He will draw a face on a butternut squash which we will leave inside.
I see all colors and sizes now it is so weird, but makes things more interesting for using them as decoration, I always wondered if the taste of them are any different

We're sticking with the traditional orange, using a small one inside and a larger one outside on the patio. They'll likely last 'til after Thanksgiving.
I don't recall ever having seen a white pumpkin. We use the familiar orange pumpkin for both pies and soup - both equally delicious.
There are a lot of orange pumpkins grown in these hills, but after the past six years, I'm done with orange pumpkins (that's all I'm going to say)
