True, there are only five well-documented fatal lightning strikes on giraffes between 1996 and 2010. But due to the population of the species being just 140,000 during this time, it makes for about 0.003 lightning deaths per thousand giraffes each year. This is 30 times the equivalent fatality rate for humans.

Goodness! That is a long word!
This 36-letter word was first used by the Roman poet Horace in the first century BCE to criticise those writers with an unreasonable penchant for long words. It was American poet Aimee Nezheukumatathil, who coined the term how we know it in 2000.

...snow drops are under snow in January here!
I didn't know any of these. The giraffe one kind of makes sense though. That was an old cat!
Thank you for sharing this information. It’s good to learn about this from you. Wishing you a wonderful Weekend!
Some really interesting facts there, the one about the giraffes is obvious when you think about it, but do we?
I would love to see that world's biggest butterfly!
These are fascinating, Jan. Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
Good ones
I knew the giraffe fact but not the others.
I didn't know any of these facts. The one that I found most amazing was the butterfly with the 31cm wingspan.
That was interesting again, I didn't know any of that, the snowdrops are already showing their green shoots, thanks Jan
i really enjoy these!! makes sense about the giaffe, the sure do rise high into the sky!!
Interesting, Jan and I didn't know any of them until now.
Have a nice weekend.
Hello Jan, I would have never thought of a 36-letter word.
Have a nice weekend ❄
Poor Giraffes and what a word - I don´t even make an attempt .... interesting facts, but I wonder if the animals - and their people - were really happy about the old age? My friend´s cat in the end - he turned 19 - needed help in nearly everything and seemed to suffer, so in the end they brought him to the vet to let him go peacefully...
I sure´d run from that butterfly!
I didn't know any of these fun facts--thanks for sharing!
Grazie mille per questo post ricco di curiosità.
Quella sulla giraffa poi è stranissima.
I didn't know any of those but the giraffes don't surprise me!
Jan, the giraffe's tongue can reach up to 53 cm in length, which allows it to access the leaves and fruits found in the tallest trees. This length is not just an anatomical marvel, but a crucial adaptation that enables them to feed in an ecosystem where competition for food can be fierce. The ability to reach food that other herbivores cannot is key to their survival.
These are such fun. And that fear of big words is a fear itself. What a long word!
In olden days they put giraffes on tall buildings as lightning conductors. That is true. Check it out on Google.
God bless.
Love giraffes ~ informative post with stats ~ thanks, hugs,
I very much enjoyed your five facts. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around the age of the oldest dog and cat. WoW, that is amazing.
I did not know.
Good facts. I had read about Bluey before. :-D
What fun! Thanks Jan and all the best to you on this sunny but cold day in Virginia :)
I didn't know any of them but wasn't surprised about the giraffes.
I did not know any of them, I can kind of understand the giraffe things just because they are so much taller. That is amazing the cat and dog lived to be that old. I can't imagine seeing a butterfly that big coming at me.
I did not know any of those, although the giraffe one makes sense. Beautiful snowdrop flowers.
These were all new facts to me. We once had a dog that lived to 17 years but that is a mere youngster compared with the 29.5 year record holder.
Interesantes datos, no conocía ninguno de ellos. Besos.
