Did You Know ?

Sharing three random facts ... as a tea drinker I enjoyed the third one :)

Australia has over 10,000 beaches. You could visit a new beach every day for over 27 years! Read more here

Aegilops, at eight letters long, is the longest word whose letters are arranged in alphabetical order. Read more about Aegilops here

The tea bag was an accidental invention. This occurred in 1908 when tea merchant Thomas Sullivan distributed his tea samples in small, silken bags. His customers, not understanding that these were samples, dunked them, and suddenly Sullivan was swamped with orders for his “tea bags!”. There is some debate about this and you can read more here

I did know about our beaches and once made a plan to visit every single one as soon as I won lotto. It's never going to happen, but at least in Adelaide I can visit all 30 of our beaches simply by travelling the coast road, since each beach is part of the whole and named for the suburb it is part of. For example I walked one year from Brighton Beach at Brighton, to Glenelg Beach at Glenelg by walking along the sand and occasionally in the water, and passing through the beaches of Hove, North Brighton, Somerton Park and Glenelg South along the way. I have also regularly walked from Semaphore Beach to Largs Bay Beach (and back) just by going along the sand.
