February is the shortest month of the year, but for many people in the northern hemisphere, it remains one of the coldest. It’s that bridge between winter and spring!
The month of February fluctuates between having 28 and 29 days per year. The 29th day only occurs every 4 years during leap years, and the next leap year will be 2028.
The length of February was finalized when Julius Caesar remade the Roman calendar and assigned the month 28 days and 29 days. In 713 B.C., February was officially added to the Roman calendar.
If you were born in February, your birthstone is an amethyst and your birth-flower is a violet or primrose.
The zodiac signs in February are Aquarius which is until February 18th, and Pisces, which is from February 19th.
Of all the words you can misspell, February is one of the most misspelled words in the English language.
The Saxons called February “Sol-monath” which means “cake month” because they would offer cakes to the gods during February.

Interesting facts about February. Seeing Snowdrops aplenty this week means it won't be long before the daffodils are waving their heads at us. Spring will be with us before too long.

Gosh, for me January went by very slo o o o o wly. GM and I become a "thing" on Feb 3rd 1987, so we celebrate Feb 3rd instead of 14th, and we'll celebrate without chocolate for various reasons, but wine might be involved.

Wow, February has been around for a long time. Usually this is my worst month of the year because I'm tired of winter. But with this year's hard and already long winter, plus my husband's back issues, I think January will win that title. That is hopefully February isn't quite so brutal. Happy new month to you Jan.

Happy February to you! Indeed it is a short month, but can be very long and cold here. This year seems different, and seems that spring may be trying to arrive! I love coffee cake, and you reminded me that I should try to remake a recipe using sourdough for a coffee cake. That sounds so delicious to me right now! I agree, usually January seems to last forever but this time it went fairly quickly, must be I kept busy enough. I hope February goes just as quickly so that spring will be among us soon. I have spelled this month wrong many times but finally have it down :) The cake sounds delicious, I may have to make that the next time I make a sweet for us :)
