'Thirteen healthiest fish to eat ... according to Registered Dietitians!'

Fish “is packed with vitamins and nutrients that can lower blood pressure and help reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke,” says Grace Derocha, a national spokesperson for The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. These include omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins D and riboflavin, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and potassium. Health organisations such as the NHS recommend that we eat two portions of fish a week. “Fish is a high-quality, lean protein to add to your eating routine for healthy muscles, bones, tissue and skin,” she says.

That said, some people avoid fish because of concerns about sustainability, or a fear of consuming mercury, a neurotoxin that are especially bad for pregnant women and young children, which can be an issue in larger fish. Most types of commonly sold fish are healthy to eat a few times a week, however. "It’s always best to look for sustainable seafood certifications, including MSC to ensure a safe, healthy and accountable seafood supply.”

The NHS says women who are or might become pregnant should avoid:
  • swordfish
  • marlin
  • shark
  • raw shellfish
  • cold-smoked or cured fish (for example smoked salmon or gravlax, including in sushi), unless it has been cooked until steaming hot.

Love sardines...though salmon is fine, but these days you can't find real wild one. So I am not eating them as often as before. Eels are great too.

Fish is quite expensive here so I don't eat enough of it, but I will try to do better now that I am no longer buying cat food since Lola passed.

I love most fish and currently have frozen in the freezer, Rainbow Trout, Salmon, Barramundi, Scallops, Blue Grenadier.

I stopped eating fish because of the mercury concern and difficulty finding wild fish in restaurants. Now I am a vegetarian. This is very important information.

I love fish. There are always salmon, trout, cod, and shrimp in my freezer.
Eels - definitely not!!
Clams and crab are favourites as well, but not so easily available. When in Portugal, I consume clams almost every single day. : )

I do enjoy eating fish. We eat salmon regularly (wild caught), cod, halibut in season, scallops, and shrimp. I do not like oysters. Sea bass is also good, but we rarely get it here. Canned salmon and tuna are also good.

Oh yes, fish is a weekly dinner here. We really like cod and it's available here. The information is great and your dishes look amazing.

I enjoy seafood. My favorites: Scrod/Schrod (cod or haddock), swordfish, and salmon. along with fried clams (I know not health conscious but it wouldn't be Summer without fried clams)

I'm allergic to shellfish, so I am careful, but I do like a good fish and chips with cod, and I enjoy halibut. I like tuna only in a can. I know, crazy! Probably because of childhood. It just tastes like growing up and bringing a tuna fish sandwich for lunch and mom made it so good!

Living in Oregon we can often get quite a lot of fresh fish--salmon, cod, rockfish, crab, clams, tuna. I do love making crab cakes and tuna fish tacos.

I can't eat shellfish, but I do really like salmon, mackerel, and other oily fish. I usually jazz up my portion of white fish when we have it because it's pretty bland for my taste, but Bill loves it. Peri peri is a favorite seasoning for me.

I had some tuna the other day and Charlie enjoyed the leftovers. I like good scallops, but it’s hard to find them this far inland. I can buy them frozen, but they just aren’t as good as the fresh ones that you get at the shore.
