Spotonski !

Nicked from diabetes.co.uk

"I aim for non-diabetic numbers, all of the time. My fasting levels are a bit higher than a non-diabetic, but I try to stay below 7.8 mmol/l always (even 1 hour post-meal). I hope that by losing weight, and keeping a non-diabetic HbA1c, I will eventually reverse my diabetes altogether. Even if that doesn't happen, I hope to minimise my chance of diabetic complications.

There is a possibility by adopting extreme measures like <20g a day of carbs, that I might be exposing myself to other health problems. But I prefer to minimise the known risks of diabetes, over the speculative risks of low-carbing."

The risks of non diabetic BG numbers are not disputed. The risks of a lowcarb diet are nil, when done correctly. Am I wrong ? prove this to me  !

No I do not think you are wrong it makes sense to keep your numbers as low as you can preferably as a non diabetic.

Speaking personally I would find 20 carbs a day a bit too low, I work to 30 to 50 but we have to do what is right for us.

I hear what you are saying. I use around 50 carbs per day, but I am 62 years of age. If I was very young, as many type two diabetics are, I would go very low re. carbs. Save those pancreas beta cells for as long as possible.

I do sometimes wonder if we take the saving of the pancreas beta cells as seriously as we should. I do feel it is important that we do this especially those who are younger, preserve what you have for as long as you can, surely that makes good sense. Over the past few years I have found what works for me and that is about 30 carbs, although I do occasionally go above this. My figures have been consistent mid 5's down to 5.2.
