Approximately one in five Canadians has metabolic syndrome -- a combination of risk factors for diabetes and heart disease -- according to a study in CMAJ.
Metabolic syndrome increases the risk of heart disease twofold and includes a combination of three or more of the following five conditions: abdominal obesity, high triglycerides (high blood fat), low HDL cholesterol, high blood pressure or impaired glucose tolerance.

Well for Canadians I think you could also read British, American virtually any developed country and I fear the situation is going to get worse.
Until many more become enlightened, educated call in what you will the numbers could be One in Four or worse - it really doesn't bear thinking about.
I can only agree with the previous comment. Perhaps it should have read One in Five in the Developed World !
It is all about education and having an open mind to all information that is available.
