Christmas is coming ! Stay well away from DUK !

Compare our Christmas pudding against the weapon of mass destruction as recommended by Diabetes UK

Ingredients:
100 grams ground almond flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon of melted butter
2 tablespoons of double cream
100 grams of lowcarb thawed frozen fruits. Blueberries, blackcurrants and strawberries.
60 grams of 90-95% cocoa dark chocolate
Two tea spoons of cocoa powder
One large shot of brandy
A handful of almond flakes and broken walnuts
Extra thick cream

Method:

Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.

Melt the butter, I use a Pyrex jug, add the eggs, cream, and fruit. Add the dry ingredients and mix. Pour into a medium size Pyrex mixing bowl. Microwave in a 700watt for 5 minutes. Turn out upside-down onto five layers of kitchen paper on a flat plate. Zap in micro-wave for a further two minutes. Melt the chocolate in a heat proof bowl standing in a saucepan of boiling water. Pour over pudding and serve with a scoop of extra thick cream. Serves four. We made this last year and it tasted fantastic. Less than a quarter of the carbs per serving compared to the DUK article. Enjoy !

A friend phoned and said "Christmas is coming" to which I replied "Yes in three months time it's Christmas Eve"

Isn't the year going quickly?

But as Eddie said, we made this last Christmas and we enjoyed it.

Just read the DUK recipe and quickly needed a lie down !

Eat too much of such 'Healthy' festive fare and the song by 'Wham' entitled 'Last Christmas' may suddenly become very ironic !

Suffice to say I'll be baking your recipe ! Looks great !

This is just one example of the high carb low fat offerings from DUK there are many more.

What is really sad is the anti's at the DCUK forum who over the years have defended the DUK dietary advice.

Yes your version sounds great Jan. And very easy to make too it seems to me that DUK and its recipes are getting worse not better. I wonder if all those who supported them in the past really are completely happy about the new recipes and menus, they don't seem particularly healthy for non-diabetics to me. I would have been very wary of many of them before diagnosis.

Ones my husband brought from his work a recipe recommended for diabetics (as a funny curiosity) by our insurance company - bans made out of whole grain flour with sweet potatoes. As long as something contains any vegetables and some fiber it is considered "healthy" regardless of not only amount of carbohydrates, but even the amount of sugar.

Looks like DUK are stuck in the old categories of Insulin Dependent Diabetes Melitus (IDDM) and Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Melitus (NIDDM). And since to them, Insulin Dependent Diabetics are the only proper diabetics, it is their mission to remove NIDDM by causing us to wipe out our beta cells and make us proper IDDM diabetics.

That is exactly why some people put on a lot of weight with a vegetarian diet. they think they are going to lose weigh and be healthier just because they leave out the meat. Its what it is replaced with that matters isn't it Galina?

DUK are quite insistent about my doing a 3 hour slot, collecting for them at my local Tesco.
I am so tempted....
