Type 2 diabetes: Cut the carbs, increase the fat says DCUK !!!

In an unprecedented turn around DCUK are telling diabetics to cut the carbs and increase the fats. Hot off the press from DCUK in an email to all it's members today.

For years we have been told that saturated fat is bad for our health.

However, new research has provided some of the strongest evidence to date that this belief is, at best, only partly true and otherwise misleading.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge turned this widely-held belief on its head after finding that people taking in foods high in saturated fat, such as cheese, were less likely to develop type 2 diabetes

Conversely, those who ate more starchy carbohydrates were at higher risk of diabetes.

For much of recent history, fat has become demonised due to it being associated with crisps, chips and milk chocolate - foods that are not just high in fat but high in carbohydrate too.

Health guidelines have responded by focusing on cutting fat from people's diets, but large scale studies have shown low fat diets to be largely ineffective at improving long term health.

Find out why it is important to distinguish between different types of fat and which type of fats are really the 'bad fats'.

Whilst some people can maintain good diabetes control on a low fat diet, many people with type 2 diabetes will have difficulty sticking to their blood glucose targets on this type of diet.

For more on this excellent information we have been promoting for over six years press here.

Hi Mo

Six years late is better late than never. Makes a bit of a mockery of duggie boys white bread, banana and pot noodle diet etc.

The guys a chump, what a shame the mods can't see it's a wind up from start to finish. No wonder duggies lipids have gone down the crapper !
