Make Time For Blueberries in July

I do hope you have been enjoying some blueberries during July because it is known as National Blueberry month. Don't worry if you haven't, you still have time!

Do you like blueberries? Eddie and I enjoy them simply served with double (heavy) cream.

Of course there are many low carb recipes that make good use of blueberries:
Here are six:-
Blueberry and Cinnamon Omelette, more details here
Blueberry Courgette (Zucchini) Cake with Lemon Frosting, more details here
Cheesecake with Blueberries, more details here
Blueberry Chaffles, more details here
Blueberry Coconut Cake, more details here
Chicken, Spinach and Blueberry Salad, more details here

Some Tips for Preparing Blueberries
Fresh berries are very fragile and should be washed briefly and carefully and then gently patted dry if they are not organic. Wash berries just prior to use to not prematurely remove the protective bloom that resides on the skin's surface. If you know the source of either wild or organic berries try not to wash them at all.

When using frozen berries in recipes that do not require cooking, thaw well and drain prior to using.

Blueberries retain their maximum amount of nutrients and their maximum taste when they are enjoyed fresh and not prepared in a cooked recipe.

We have a lot of blueberry farms around here. I picked up 10 pounds, froze a bunch and have been eating them plain. They are so good!

As a matter of fact, I just made a whole lot of blueberry muffins this morning which may not have been the healthiest way to eat it but everyone I gave them to enjoyed them. :-)

I like to eat them right out of the container/basket I get at the store. Fresh is always best.

The blueberries are really sweet at the moment. I have to have them every morning with my muesli and greek yogurt. By the way your last post on the larkspur was very useful. Out and about in London yesterday I was able to show off to some friends as I recognised the plant in a border at the Inner Temple (free to look around if you are ever in that part of London).

Good morning, all berries are my favorite fruits-I used to be able to pick strawberries and blueberries at farms that I would then freeze-but now I can only get them at the food stores.
Happy new week Kathy

Blueberries are delicious in so many things. I added some to my salad the other night. It was a nice way to sweeten it up naturally. :)

I buy fruit in the produce section of the grocery store and always keep blueberries on hand. I tend to eat them as they are.

I bought some frozen blueberries. It's been very hot and humid so I put the blueberries in a cup and pop them to cool down while hanging out in the sunroom.

We have blueberry bushes in our garden and they are bearing bountifully right now. We eat them with yogurt for breakfast and I'm freezing lots of them for winter eating.

Blueberries do very well in this area and we can buy straight from the fields. So far we've bought 5 ten lb. boxes for ourselves and our grown children/grands. In case you are interested the price here is $2 a lb. ( B.C., Canada)

We did have blueberry muffins last week but I think the sugar content was probably not so healthy in them. A blueberry plant in the garden would be nice though.

I wouldn't have thought of blueberries in an omelet.
