DCUK New layout same idiots !

Over at the forum of fun the new layout has been well received, certainly much faster. Unfortunately the same idiots are rubbishing low carb. Sid Bonkers is either a total liar or stark raving mad, probably both. From Sid today.

“For some a lchf diet might be a good way to control T2 but for the vast majority it is unsustainable in the long term and also when you restrict carbohydrates to the extreme ie under 40g or 50g a day you run the risk of becoming more sensitive to carbs which is obviously not a good thing as those carbs that you do eat affect you much faster and much more.”

He must know many people who have stuck to low carbing for years, many are still regulars at the forum. He must realise almost all the success stories on the forum involve low carbing. He went on to say.

“The diet I used to loose weight was a reduced carb diet with no added fat and I substituted low GI carbs wherever possible and that is also what I use 5 years after shedding 5 stone to maintain my weight loss, I eat a lot less food than I used to and as I need less food to thrive I have never needed to increase the fat in my diet. I don’t avoid fat I just don’t add it to my diet.”

Sid needs “less food to thrive” because he is an invalid and can hardly move. Check out his profile it says “Foot tapping and occasional walking” before the public could view members profiles it stated he gave up fishing due to ill health and liked walking his dog when able. The fact is because of virtually zero physical activity, Sid can get by on 17 grams of cornflakes and a splash of milk for breakfast! Others who work, or are physically active cannot, this appears to be beyond Sids understanding.

Brett a relative newcomer on 300 grams of carb a day, and lot’s of medication, and knows all the answers, stated regarding low carb.

If it works for you great, would disagree that if you eat carbs, take medication to control spikes maintain good control, have regular exercise then its wrong. Just cause it works for you does not mean its the only way which is how it is coming across”

Hana a long term diabetic with great control and minimal meds and a low carb diet got it right when she said.

“In addition fewer than half the diabetics in this country hit HbA1cs below 7.5% [58] and non-diabetic HbA1cs are about 4.2% or 22. Our local diabetes centre frequently sees double figures. If you think 7.5% is good control, good luck to you, you will need it. If you choose to achieve it by high doses of medication, you'll need even more good luck. If you currently can keep bg down without medication you already have a lot of luck. I personally prefer not to rely on luck and to avoid eating the stuff that puts my bg up. Since I don't actually need the carbs, why eat them? “

So there you have it. A nice new layout a much faster forum, but the same knumbskulls like Sid spreading the lies and misinformation, it was ever thus. As for the Brett's of this world, if you think a high carb diet and ramming high BG numbers down with lots of medication is the way to go, I recommend a pre-paid funeral plan with the COOP.

To put into context im a very active 6ft 3 inch male age 36. I'm not on any other meds other than insulin with no other health issues, and being type 1 I need insulin, there is no cure! weather I low carb or not I require insulin. I eat 200~300 carbs a day which is coincided with activity. This allows me to use minimal insulin and being sensitive to it during excecise to the extent that I can bolus up to 50% less at times.
Thanks for reading, brett

Thanks for coming over here Brett, debate or argument is pretty much a taboo subject on the DCUK forum, maybe we can have one on this blog. I see you have posted a new thread on the forum re my comments regarding you, and then bumped it up because your comment on this blog was not authorised until this morning. Sorry for the delay in authorising your comment, but our team appreciates the value of sleep. Have you considered the possibility you could be an insomniac ?

OK let’s cut to the chase. Imagine being a type two diabetic, most diabetics are type two’s. On diagnosis you are given extremely poor dietary advice, if you are lucky a prescription for a very cheap drug like metformin, that’s it, mind how you go see you next year. No test strips, no appointment with a diabetes expert such as an endocrinologist, you are on your own. The lucky ones find a forum or a website or a blog like ours, they try low carb and for most it works very well. They tell others about a free natural way to control their diabetes, what could be better ? But wait, as soon as they start posting on DCUK they have to contend with the bonkers brigade. People who consume 300 carbs a day with an insulin pump, test strips and access to experts start telling all and sundry low carb is not for them, or is not sustainable in the long term etc etc. Maybe if all diabetics had insulin, pumps, test strips etc. we would hear a lot less about low carb. The Fact is for the majority of diabetics they have no choice other than low carb, and thats a fact.

Over to you Brett

"I believe the biggest problem of the low carb diet is the high fat element as fat has double the calories of both carbs and protein so any increase of fat in a diet is counter productive to weight loss which as I have already stated is the biggest aid to good control. diabetes."

Comment from sid on the same thread this is another load of utter bullshit from bonkers does he really think low carbers replace 1g of carbs with 1g of fat! My calorie intake of around 1800 cals is no different on low carb than when I was on a low fat diet.

I have tried to fathom the workings of Sid's mind, but for me it is unfathomable. Unfortunately some are taken in by him. Sid is never less than devious and lives in a world of half truths and fantasy. Today he said on the forum re us "having to live their lives in fear" this while he hides on the forum and runs screaming for the mods when he come under pressure. He fears to come over here for a debate, because he knows he will lose and no mods will lock the thread when he makes a buffoon of himself.

Will Brett come back to debate, or is he another Sid Bonkers. Time will tell.

Hi Brett

Thanks for the info, now I'll give you an insight into my details.

I'm a 6ft active male slightly older than you well maybe a lot older than you, OK I admit I'm old enough to be your dad!

Not your usual T2 I'm slim and weigh around 160 pounds, my main issue is keeping weight on not losing it. After 5+ years LC I don't have any other health issues apart from slightly raised BP which requires meds one metformin is all I take.

I appreciate there's no cure for T1 nor is there for T2, as for carbs yes you can cover them with insulin while our only option is to low carb or take drugs many of which are increasingly coming under scrutiny for possibly dangerous side effects.

To put your 200-300 carbs into context a T2 on 2000 cals would under the dietary guidelines need to eat the same amount as you, or in my case as I require around 3500 cals just to keep my weight stable amounts to around 440g a day.

You will have noted from Sid Bonkers, noblehead et al that we are banned from DCUK what they don't reveal is we were banned cugila an ex forum mod he is fourth in the list of notable members which is ironic since he is now also banned. T won't go into details now as getting rather late and I'm ready for bed.

Finally you said on DCUK:
Lol, no not reported it yo their mods, probably one of then that posted it lol. Yep, nice to be thought of this time of year

About 10 mins after I commented here, my reply appeared, me thinks we are being spied on

Nothing sinister going on the only reason your comment didn't appear till the morning is that none of us were logged in.

Regards
Graham

Thanks for your reply graham and yes it was rather late, had a new coffee machine and had a few too many espressos.
Any way, as I've said before any diet is individual to the person, what we all choose for ourselves to do is individual for our needs. I appreciate the differences between types but feel harsh restriction of any food group is not beneficial for either type, maybe why you are underweight or struggle to put on weight. Nothing wrong in reducing a particular food group. Someone eating 100 carbs a day would be consuming roughly 400 cals a day from them, thats alot to make up in fat, protein, unless in a short term calorie restricted diet for a short period. What would have to be eaten to make up 2100 to 2600 cals from other food groups. Are all people aware about the effects on kidneys of extra protein, especially those who have kidney problems and low carb. Why does even the atkins diet state that its not a diet to be done forever. If it is a healthy way to go why isn't the while nation doing it. I know of many low carbers who are actually overweight. I know of some low carbers who have lost weight but accompanied with exercise which, will work with any diet. I do.wonder how many type 2s actually stick to a proper
Diet with exercise. A bit stereotypical yes but, true. If a type 2 reduced carbs to 200g (not the junk carbs) and have reduced fat, wouldn't that improve insulin sensitivity by itself. This would reduce external fat and also the internal hidden fat in a person of normal weight. If weight isn't an issue, and a person is following that with raised levels I believe there would be a lack of insulin (growth hormone) in the first place as indicated by the struggle to gain weight whilst consuming carbs .that would then need injecting.
many thanks, brett

Thanks for coming back to us. I am going to start a new thread with your comment. I will answer your points and Graham will no doubt add to the debate later.

Feel free to reply and your comments will be posted on the thread unedited as they come in. I hope we can have a good debate, this is rarely achieved at DCUK due to post editing, banning and thread locking by mods.
