Lose weight and improve heart health naturally by walking.

Many people these days think they have to follow the latest fad diet in order to lose a lot of weight in a hurry. The hard truth is that there is actually no fast fix for weight loss. It is a gradual process that involves a will to change one's lifestyle and habits. Walking is one of the safest, most effective forms of exercise that will assist with successful weight loss and future weight, health and heart maintenance.

Ensure that you have loose but comfortable clothing to wear while walking, as well as a comfortable pair of walking shoes. It is also important to warm up by gently stretching the muscles before setting out. Cool down after walking by slowing down your pace a few minutes before arriving at your destination and ensure that you finish off with a few gentle stretches after stopping. This will minimize your risk of muscle strain and injury.

I try and get out for a walk each day, weather permitting. I remember your article about the Lake District. I do hope you got a nice break there.

Any exercise must surely be good for you and if you also include a healthy diet what could be better.
If you cannot get out and about for a walk it is still possible to exercise in the home be it a little extra stretching when you do some dusting, to playing some favourite music that makes you want to move and use your muscles - go on have a dance!
Even if you are chair bound it may still be possible for you to move your arms, hands to a piece of your favourite music.
A little exercise can make you feel so much better.

After 3 weeks of driving the boys around the country we are now back to our daily routine of a 2 mile walk (downhill), pick up the newspaper, coffee and people watch and the slightly harder task of the 2 mile walk (uphill).

I thought this was interesting for those Diet Coke drinkers. Anyway, according to this study it seems those drinking diet soda tend to gain more weight then those drinking the real stuff. When you read all the facts things change a bit since Diet Coke and most other Diet Sodas have little to no calories which will not cause weight gain. Basically the study says most Diet Soda drinkers use it to let them eat heavier on the other stuff. Not sure this study was worth the money they probably spent on it, but interesting how to loose weight.
