Alex Jones goes bat shit on the Piers Morgan show. It’s not the guns it’s big pharma Alex says !

As anyone who reads this blog knows, we are no fans of big pharma. Sure drugs and medicines save millions every year, but we believe big pharma drugs kills and maims millions every year. The billions of $ in fines over the last few years, prove big pharma are dishonest and profit comes before patient safety, far too often.

Alex Jones is a conspiracy theorist and a madman say some, others believe he is the voice of truth and freedom. Check out this recent interview, which will be on UK TV this week, and ask yourself would you want to be around Jones if he was armed ? Whatever Alex Jones agenda is, he blew it big time on this occasion. He blames big pharma for the 11,000 gun killings a year in the US, in the UK 35 people were killed by guns last year.

Let’s get a few things straight here, we have our fair share of mentally disturbed people in the UK, and there is no shortage of people on mind changing meds, could it be our low death by guns rate, is because very few people own guns ? Could it be most people would not want to own a gun in the UK, even if the law was not as strict as it is ? It’s the last thing I would ever want to own, whether legal or not.

Let’s face it, high power automatic weapons, mentally ill people, and drugs are a deadly combination. Now we can’t stop people becoming mentally ill, and big pharma drugs help many, so they are here to stay, guns are the problem, as the gun death stats prove.

Check this short video out, and tell me Alex is not out to lunch ! Eddie

Piers remained remarkably calm as poor Alex got wilder and wilder, and he owns 50 guns ?????

Also, how about those "remarkably calm" and "civilized" hosts laughing about how they would like to shoot Jones? Or at least have someone else shoot him, so they wouldn't have to sully their purity.

like they used to say about auto fatalities -- it's not the car's fault, but the loose nut behind the wheel....

you read Emily Deans, don't you Eddie? i subscribe to the notion of diet-induced mental problems in many cases. but according to Dr. Wm. Wong, ALL the school shooters HAVE been on psych drugs. :-(

the concern many of us feel over here, is that "when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." when my husband is out of town, i feel better knowing that i have a pistol handy in case of break-ins, which happen disturbingly often in this neighborhood. he used to hunt, and most of what we own are sporting arms we've inherited.

that said, there's absolutely NO good reason for private citizens to have semiautomatic weapons with clips containing dozens of rounds!

You really do need to question the mentality of the Americans! Sorry to those who do see it from a Brits point of view but who in their right mind wants to own guns, I just don't see it.Although there will be some who'd argue against this. Please debate with words not guns !!!!!

Hi Tess

Thank you for your comments. For what my opinion is worth you seem a lovely lady, and I value your input to our blog highly.

In the UK almost all Policemen do not carry guns. Every now and again the Police vote, and they vote to not carry guns. It’s pretty much a fact here, if you kill a Policeman or Woman, you will die in Prison with no chance of early release, you leave Prison in a coffin. That focuses attention. Our Policemen and Women have the resources to call up ‘armed response vehicles‘. These are highly armed and highly trained Policemen. If you are armed, you almost always die if you take on these guys. That keeps most of us content in the UK.

If I thought I had to arm my Wife with a firearm before leaving her on her own, I would never leave home.

Jones does express a lot of good points. Taking away the automatic and semi-automatic guns would only be the first step by government. Does anyone expect them to stop there? Won't the school shooters just use something else - or do you believe their thought processes are controlled by their guns? Taking guns away from the law-abiding won't stop the criminals - just like how the "War on Drugs" has been so successful with eliminating drugs. These guns will be manufactured in other places in the world and will find their way to the criminal faction in America anyway. Besides, haven't we, the citizens of America, learned by now not to trust the sincerity of the actions by our government? A real debate needs to happen first, don't give up your rights with a knee-jerk reaction to the horror of babies being murdered without all the facts. Remember, to government, a crisis is a wasted opportunity.

Sorry, meant to say: "Remember, to government, doing nothing in a crisis is a wasted opportunity".

It seems you Brits think that guns are such horror. I have never been to your country, but I seem to recall you having some "bomb" problems in your past. And I've heard there is a camera on every corner. Is that true? And is it true what Jones says about your crime rate? I don't want to live in a police state where a criminal knows I have nothing but locks to defend myself and my home. I know I shouldn't worry, the cops will be there in 5 minutes, maybe.

I live in the UK, whilst it is not perfect I would not want to live anywhere else. I feel sure whatever country you live in, you live to the best of your ability and live life to the full, as the saying goes. Over recent months it has become ever clearer the split in the American belief/right to hold guns. To most of my friends here in the UK the thought of owning a gun just makes them shudder and question why the ordinary person would want to. Looking back there has always been the criminal element that can always get their hands on weapons from the knife, through to guns and more sophisticated weapons depending on what gang or terrorist organisation you represent. And yes some may well say a government is a 'terrorist' organisation.

I do believe that most folks here in the UK just want to get on with their lives in as quiet a way as possible, working or spending time with family and friends. Do I look through 'rose coloured spectacles'? Well yes some of the time perhaps I do.

Life is far from perfect, it is up to each individual to do what they feel is best, and to discuss and debate issues that affect us all. Not all we wish for or want will happen but without open discussion we will not progress.

Guns for everyone is not what I would want.

Hi all

The UK is far from perfect. But I would be rather be punched in the face, than shot in the face. Most of our gun crime is drug gang related. However, we had a horrific crime committed in Dunblane, young children were killed by a madman with a gun, shooting and killing sixteen children and one adult before committing suicide.

Nothing can legislate for this, but we can try. More guns cannot be the answer.

thank you, Eddie! you guys here at TLCD are favorites of mine, with your wicked sense(s) of humor....

the difference in "gun attitude" between here and there are largely cultural, i believe, but there are practical differences in the distances involved, too. i know people who live an hour from nowhere, and there are lots of large areas with no cellphone reception also! a perfect example is my best friend's cabin in New Mexico -- when a stranger drives/walks up to the place, she has a shotgun under her arm till she finds out who they are and what they want. too many assaults and murders happen in places where help could never come in time.

i live in St. Louis, in an historic district, ie older area of town. crack houses are reputedly just a few blocks away. when J is out of town on business, i turn on the security system at night and lock myself and the dog in the bedroom. if anyone were to come in and set off the alarm, hear the dog bark and STILL COME ON, he's gotta be doped up, and i WILL defend myself with the Ruger. :-) ...no wonder a lot of people in more peaceful countries wouldn't want to live here.

Hi Tess

I have worked with Americans and played golf against them in Spain. I have never ever had a bad moment. I hear what you are saying, but in the UK we do not want to know about guns, full stop. The stats prove, in the UK guns are a no, no. I would hate that I would have to own a gun.

Hi Tess
I am sorry when your husband is away you need to have a gun at your side.

But is this the answer ?

It is a great shame when you feel you need a gun to protect yourself. How strict are the licence laws when you apply for or go buy a gun?

The worst gun crimes appear to be done by those who may well have mental health isssues, it would at least be a start to ban the semi automatic and automatic weapons from the buying ordinary public.

Hi Tess

I can see your logic but where does it end? If you live in a country that has such high rates of gun ownership I can understand why you may wish to own one for your own safety but that doesn't make it right does it?

We got the media coverage of the latest atrocity over here and I would guess the average UK persons response while feeling deeply for those poor people is either you need to implement strict gun control or the same thing will continue to happen again and again.

The later news response that you (America) are seriously considering effectively having armed guards at schools and news reports showing a armored clothing being made for children really made my skin crawl to be honest.

Is that the kind of society you really want to live in?

Over here there is gun ownership among the criminal elements of society but we find they usually content themselves with shooting each other rather than the general public which is fine by me.

Anonymous said...

This debate will run and run...

I find myself asking a similar question, what kind of society do we want to live in?

For me guns and more guns just isn't the answer.

Could the Americans at least start by banning the automatic type weapon?

I fear there will always be those whose mental stability will result in some sort of gun crime, and the criminals will always be able to get hold of guns, but I would not be happy having a gun in my house.

" but I would not be happy having a gun in my house."

Agree 100%

tess said...

:-) i thoroughly agree on banning automatic weapons -- when it will HAPPEN is the big question! naturally, i'd prefer to live in a world where everyone is honest and rational, but i don't EXPECT to.

since i can't change the society i live in, by just wanting it to happen, my choices are to move to another country -- and we HAVE considered it! -- or "take my precautions and take my chances." nobody HAS broken into our house but some of our neighbors haven't been so lucky. last spring, someone broke twenty car windows up and down our street (my Volvo's was only cracked).

but once, almost thirty years ago, i was held up at gunpoint at the doughnut shop where i worked -- i gave him the money and he left! the cops weren't able to get prints from the coffee-cup i saved for them, or the countertop where he put his hands, and they never caught him. :-P

i'm guessing that most of you who wouldn't want to own a gun have never been hunting? my husband grew up in a family with "country" roots, and was taught to handle guns with respect when he was young. when he used to go hunting with my stepfather, they always brought home their "limit" of pheasant, and often quail and rabbits, too. i've always considered hunting rather like fishing -- and love getting the products of both for my kitchen!

if i lived where i had faith in the police being able to get to me fast enough to protect me, i might feel different about having firearms around the place, but as it is.... :-) needless to say, when our children were small, and now when the grandkids are in the house, they're ALL unloaded and locked up!

Hi Tess

I can’t argue with what you say. Thinking on this matter further, I am mindful that us Brit’s that think countries that allow almost all to own guns is madness, yet we are one of the largest exporters of weapons in the world. Of course we flog weapons and call it defence equipment, but only a fool would believe weapons do not end up in the wrong hands. We export to countries with very grim human rights history such as Saudi Arabia. If there is enough money in a deal, we seem to find a way to justify it. We did not build the largest empire in history because we were Mr nice guys.

We have had some mass shootings of innocents in the UK and every time, unsurprisingly, the shooter has been mentally ill. The same seems to the case with your resent school shooting. It seems to me guns are like cars, it’s not the gun or car that kill, it’s the user. If guns are to be permanent in the US which I believe they will, maybe the answer is to work much harder to keep them out of the hands of mentally ill people. This would be extremely expensive to set up and run, but what price do you put on a classroom full of tiny children.

Kind regards Eddie

First of all it is scary that this man, who is obviously mentally ill, is allowed to freely roam the streetsAND own guns!

Aside from that it isn't the fault of games companies, film, music, news stations or pharmaceutical companies. The problem is that parents and the government do not do enough to raise children to be sane and civil people and there is not enough done to help with mental illness. I have violent games since I was eight years old and I have never had a fight, I hate violence and I think all weapons should be banned. This is because my parents raised me to be sane and civil and if for reasons beyond their control I was not sane or civil they would have taken the necessary action.

Ban guns, ban knives and lock this nutter up but stop using media and industry as a scapegoat because you're too spineless to blame yourself.

Or am I just a tyrannical Redcoat?

"We have had some mass shootings of innocents in the UK and every time ..."

It might be worth remembering what we did back in 1987 after the Hungerford massacare and then when it happened again in Dunblane back in 1996. The Dunblane massacre killed 15 5 & 6 year olds at a school so pretty similar to what's just happenned.

Taken from http://edition.cnn.com/2012/12/17/world/europe/dunblane-lessons/index.html

"In the wake of the 1987 Hungerford massacre, in which one lone gunman killed 16 people, Britain introduced new legislation -- the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 -- making registration mandatory for owning shotguns and banning semi-automatic and pump-action weapons.

Within a year and a half of the Dunblane massacre, UK lawmakers had passed a ban on the private ownership of all handguns in mainland Britain, giving the country some of the toughest anti-gun legislation in the world. After both shootings there were firearm amnesties across the UK, resulting in the surrender of thousands of firearms and rounds of ammunition.
Britain has never had a "gun culture" like that of the United States, but there were about 200,000 legally-registered handguns in Britain before the ban, most owned by sports shooters. All small-bore pistols, including the .22 caliber, were included in the ban, along with rifles used by target shooters. Penalties for anyone found in possession of illegal firearms range from heavy fines to prison terms of up to 10 years."

I would suggest America needs to do a similar thing. I'd also point out both Acts of legislation were put through by our equivalent of a Republican party government as Margaret Thatcher's government did the first and John Major's (Thatchers successor) did the second.

Great post Rob! It mirrors mine and my sons experience,I used to watch horror movies and play games with violence in them but I knew right from wrong and had sane and civil parents too and like yourself, hate violence and have personally never hurt a person or animal in my life and never would,my son is autistic and very visual and got his first playstation 2 at age 5 and played GTA and the like and now aged 14 is a major COD player along with mortal combat and many others on the Xbox and he is the most peace loving, chilled out, violence hating boy I've ever met but he openly admits that gaming and reality are polar opposites and he can easily distinguish between the two.

Sometimes people are just born bad, plain and simple and it's far too easy to just blame enviromental influences...That's my take on this, wrong or right..

Best regards

A brilliant post Blind Doggie and thanks for the info, and setting the record straight for how things are in the UK. If I had my way owning an un-licensed fire arm would be an automatic five years in prison, with no time off for good behaviour. For carrying the same, ten years prison. For using a gun to carry out a crime life. I hate and fear guns and for me only the Police and Armed Forces should ever have them. We know gangsters and other criminals own and use them, but almost always they are used against their own. Thank God as bad as these guys are, they are not mad enough to use them on the general public and school children.

I think we can all agree on one point. You have to be mentally ill to want to kill anyone, let alone teachers and school children. Men should be protectors of women and children. Our Policemen and women and armed forces are prepared to lose their own lives to protect others, let’s be very thankful these people have the courage that most of us will never have.

And more money needs to be available to help look after them, unfortunately at the moment I fear it will not happen.

Surely it would at least help to ban automatic weapons?
Will the Americans hear this plea?
