From Siena Some Awesome Photo's

These days so many of us take photographs ... and so many different types. Family, holiday, outings, nature - just something we've seen that's caught our eye. Of course we can end up with so many photograph's, and then where do we keep them? In an album, on a computer perhaps! Photographs can evoke emotion, memories ... some prefer a colour photograph, whilst others like black and white. Then of course some people prefer to use a camera and others are happy to use a mobile phone. Times and technology change but photo's record an event, a moment in time, which can be most special, a new born baby, your wedding or perhaps a happy holiday.

These next two photos are from the Siena International Photography Awards and are awesome! Photographers from all over the world competed in a brand new competition. Categories included Open Colour, Nature, Travel and Architecture, and some of the images look more like paintings than photos.

The 'dancing mantis' photo, above, was taken by Hasan Baglar from Cyprus and was the overall Nature category winner. The photographer says he took the image after trying to touch the insects. They opened their wings in an "attack" and started to follow him. "They looked like smiling dancers" he says.

The overall winner of this year's competition, was this photo, (above), taken by Vladimir Proshin, it shows Chinese fishermen on the Ou river close to the city of Lishui. The photo displays an ethereal quality which beautifully captures the nuances of light, depth and reflection.

Thinking about personal photographs, this lovely view taken in the Lake District has always been a favourite. Eddie took it whilst we got way off the beaten track, and took a chance of not wrecking our car, driving up a mountain path, and gazing at the amazing view’s, if you have never visited the Lake District I highly recommend it. Yes, we do also take our walking boots - see here

Now where did this 'awesome photo' come from?
Ah yes, it's a photo showing our favourite Beef Bourguignon Meal.
Have a look at the recipe and ingredients here - great low carb food

Hope you've enjoyed the selection of different photographs

Have a great weekend ...
... and don't forget to have a look at Saturday Night Is Music Night later!

All the best Jan

Wow! They're amazing. I think to capture something like the 'dancing mantis' would be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Just think if the photographer had missed that, I bet he wouldn't have got another chance. That's a lovely photo of the Lake District, somewhere I've never been. I don't live that far away so I should really make more of an effort to get there, it's just that there's so many wonderful places to visit in our country that we're spoilt for choice. Mmmm, Beef Bourguignon is a favourite meal for us too.

These mantis certainly do like dancers don't they, and yes, a once in a lifetime chance to get a fantastic shot like this. I don't know what camera or lens was used ...
I'm sure you will not be disappointed if you do get the opportunity to visit the Lake District.
Doesn't Beef Bourguinon smell great when it's cooking too!

Happy Weekend Wishes - hope the rain and wind stay away from you.

I love photos and there's nothing quite like holding them in your hands to look.

I'm not sure where your awesome picture is but the colors of the soil and stone remind me of the Grand Canyon.

Have a blessed weekend.

I do agree with you there is something special about holding photographs in your hand.

That picture was taken in the Lake District, which is a region and national park in northwest England, which is a popular holiday destination. It’s known for its glacial ribbon lakes, rugged fell mountains and historic literary associations. Market towns such as Kendal, Keswick and Ambleside are bases for exploring the area and home to traditional inns, galleries of local art and outdoor equipment shops. This picture was taken when we were around the Langdale Pikes ... you can read more here http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/

I was like you when I first saw the mantis image ... it doesn't look real somehow, the colours and how they are standing ... but it is real and it is awesome!

Hope the rest of your weekend goes well.

I wonder what score Craig would give those 'dancing' mantis'?!!
Those photos are stunning, the patience needed to capture that perfect shot.

Well I think it deserves a 10 but knowing Craig,he'd find the smallest ever fault and give it a 9 LOL!
Seriously I agree with you, these are stunning photo's - and the colour in them just lovely too.
