Weight Loss Tips

Sharing part of an article from Diet Doctor Site, which you can read in full here

'Top 10 weight loss tips

Avoid eating carbs and fat together. This combination provides excessive calories with little to no nutritional value — think pizza, cookies, chips, donuts, etc. — and may increase cravings.

Eat at least 30 grams of protein at most meals. Protein foods are the most satiating and nutrient-dense type of food.

On a low-carb approach, which is often a successful weight loss strategy, limit net carbs to less than 100 grams (or keep them as low as 20 grams per day, if you want to try a keto diet).

Fill your plate with fibrous veggies. These provide abundant nutrients, high food volume, and relatively few calories.

Add enough fat for taste and to enjoy your food, but not more than you need. Let’s be honest, fat tastes great! Taste is an essential part of long-term nutritional success. But too much fat can add calories you don’t need.

If you’re hungry, start with adding more protein and vegetables. Again, these are the most satiating and nutritious food for the fewest calories.

Find foods you enjoy that fit the above criteria. Check out some recipes here.

Stay physically active. You don’t have to run marathons, but physical activity added to a healthy diet can help maintain fat loss while preserving muscle mass.

Get adequate restorative sleep. Sleep like your health depends on it, because it does!

Create an environment to promote your success. It isn’t just about knowing what to do. It’s also about creating the environment that will help you succeed. For example, removing tempting foods from your kitchen is just one great way to get started.'

Good tips. I would add, wait until you are hungry before you eat. Don't eat by the clock or 'set' mealtimes.

I eat protein for the breakfast. And yes, you either go low fat, low carb...both all work.

We had a few weeks following the theme of the keto diet, it works! apart from losing a little excess fat I had more energy.

It's a sad fact that most of us enjoy food which isn't good for us. It's a good idea to have healthy snacks handy to reach for when you get peckish, though removing all the unhealthy snacks from the kitchen is a good tip, then you don't get tempted.

'Listen to your body' -is the best tip I can offer. If you feel hungry, eat something even if it is 9 oclock in the evening and the book says your last meal should be at 7p.m.
Sleeping at least 7 hours is of utmost importance. The protein in eggs, and walking are great diet helpers.

Weight loss is not an issue for me, but I hear it's a real struggle for some.

Great advice. I'm fortunate in that I need to keep my weight on and not lose any, which can be a problem too. So for me, this is very helpful in keeping my type 1 diabetes under control.

Great tips here Jan - I did my first UK Park Run this week, lured in by the destination at a stately home in Cornwall! I am trying to increase my fitness which always motivates me for healthier eating.
Have a great week

I know all of these tips - I guess anyone who is struggling with weight loss know them - and it's still a struggle. My mantra is "everything in moderation". The worst enemy is the cravings, and I have learned if I satisfy those cravings in moderation I am more successful than trying to silence them by eating soemthing low calorie/low fat/low carb that doesn't give me any satisfaction and I eventually end up with the craving item anyway.
