The statistics below prove the NHS, DUK and ADA are clueless in the correct diet  and treatment for the majority of diabetics. The stats are a complete disgrace and year after year show no progress being made whatsoever.

Results for England. The National Diabetes Audit 2010-2011
Percentage of registered Type 1patients in England
HbA1c >= 6.5% (48 mmol/mol) = 92.6%
HbA1c >   7.5% (58 mmol/mol) = 71.3%
HbA1c > 10.0% (86 mmol/mol) = 18.1%

Percentage of registered Type 2 patients in England
HbA1c >= 6.5% (48 mmol/mol = 72.5%
HbA1c > 7.5% (58 mmol/mol) = 32.6%

Closure of David’s Low Carb Forum

I see Anonymous on the Cesspit blog is once again repeating the lie that Eddie was responsible for the closure of David’s low carb blog. The last post on David’s blog and the one that caused David to snap was posted by the cuddly cat avatar: Karen/ChocFish/WhitbyProp

As I have said many times I like Benedict, I also asked recently has he been given the third degree ? I am now asking myself, has he lost the plot, has he been taking too many Bennies ? *

Take a recent incidence, a well respected forum member was banned. Her friends came out in support and complained loudly, an injustice had been done. Benedict the administrator stated.

“Yes, Defren I believe it was heavy handed. I also unintentionally took a post out of context which was certainly bad on my part. I'm sorry for this.” and also handed out some waffle. Defren was reinstated, justice had been done. What of her loyal and steadfast advocates, BANNED for a month.!

"A forum of this size cannot function without the support of the moderators and so when members club together to belittle tough decisions the moderators have made, we'd rather be rid of those members"

Well they heeded your advice Ben and set up a great forum. Welcome to the crazy world of diabetes. Ben why don't you join a good forum ? You know it makes sense why fight it ?

  1. Benzedrine is the trade name of the racemic mixture of amphetamine (dl-amphetamine). The drug was often referred to as "bennies" by users and in literature.

£5000 and many diabetics can't get free test strips !

"MPs have backed Department of Health proposals to bundle most of the diabetes points in QOF to create a single indicator worth over £5,000.
The Public Accounts Committee - a cross-party committee of MPs - said the National Diabetes Audit had shown the current QOF system was not driving better outcomes and GPs needed tougher targets.
The calls come as Pulse obtained a copy of an investigation by the DH into discrepancies between the results of the National Diabetes Audit and QOF.
The investigation shows that performance under QOF may be even lower than previously thought, with only 40% of patients with diabetes receiving all nine checks."

Are some diabetics being ripped off !

At the moment there are nine parameters for the monitoring of diabetics in the UK. It has been reported that as few as 40% of diabetics get all the tests. At present Doctors are paid  on an individual basis for each element they carry out. MPs are debating bringing the nine test together and paying out one single payment of £5000 per year. This is to ensure diabetics get all the tests. What occurs to me is, bearing in mind the Government is cutting back on NHS budgets, how much in total were the medics getting for each individual element. I am thinking if they getting 5K now and possibly more, you would have thought there was enough in the kitty to supply test strips to all diabetics on prescription. Just a thought what are your views ?

Type 2 Diabetes and Beta-Blockers, What You Should Know !

When you think about risk factors for type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and inactivity may come to mind. One lesser known factor is use of beta-blockers, but not all of the drugs in this class may raise the chances of developing type 2 diabetes.

Some beta-blockers increase diabetes risk

Beta-blockers (aka, beta-adrenergic blocking agents or beta antagonists) have been on the market for about six decades. The first clinically beneficial beta-blocker to enter the market was propranolol, which was prescribed to treat angina pectoris, a condition in which the heart's need for oxygen exceeds the available supply.
Since then, propranolol and other beta-blockers have been developed and prescribed most often for arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythms), high blood pressure, and heart attack, and less often for migraines, anxiety, overactive thyroid, and glaucoma. Beta-blockers work by slowing the heart beat and reducing contractions of blood vessels in the heart, brain, and throughout the body.
According to cardiologist Ragaendra R. Baliga at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, "Studies show that older beta- blockers can increase a patient'srisk of type 2 diabetes by more than 25 percent." While raising the risk of diabetes is not good for anyone, it is especially damaging for individuals who already have conditions that affect the heart and vascular system.
In a recent issue of Heart Failure Clinics, Baliga explained that "older beta-blockers are doubled-edged swords. They save lives, but you want to avoid complications down the road, like diabetes." When some beta-blockers are used for a long time, they may have a negative impact on insulin sensitivity and lipid profiles, as well as cause weight gain, all risk factors for diabetes.
Among the older beta-blockers are atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor), and propranolol (Inderal LA). Baliga noted that when patients have no other limitations, he considers prescribing newer beta-blockers, such as carvedilol (Coreg), rather than the older drugs. Recent research has suggested carvedilol may improve the efficiency of insulin and thus help prevent diabetes.
Not all research has shown an increased risk of diabetes associated with older beta-blockers, however. A 2011 study from Tulane University explored the risk of new-onset diabetes among individuals with high blood pressure who were starting therapy with carvedilol or other beta-blockers (i.e., atenolol, metoprolol).
Among the 3,084 patients who took carvedilol and the 9,252 who took the other beta-blockers, the rate of new-onset diabetes during the mean follow-up period of 12.8 and 14.8 months, respectively, was 3.16 per 100 person-years in the carvedilol group and 3.36 in the other beta-blocker group.
Therefore, the authors concluded that the risk of new-onset type 2 diabetes among patients with high blood pressure was similar between the newer beta-blocker (carvedilol) and older beta-blockers.
The bottom line
The new report indicates there may be an increased risk of type 2 diabetes among people who take the older beta-blockers on the market. However, Baliga emphasized that anyone who is taking beta-blockers should not stop or switch their medication without first consulting their healthcare provider about the potential for type 2 diabetes and which medications may be more appropriate.

What did I tell ya, those muppets who run DCUK are clueless. I told ya the place would go down the carzy without me at the helm. They let those lowcarber anarchists wreck the place, Jesus it looks like hurricane Sandy’s been through the joint, what a bloody carve up. Jeez you can see why the Police force is going down the tubes, in my day we broke a few limbs then got nasty. We knew how to treat SCUM ! Get ya coat Sue we’ve got work to do, when I get my hands on Benny boy, he’ll wish they had brought back conscription, and he was out in Afghanistan staring down the barrel of an AK47. Do you suffer from constipation ?

There was once a king who had been constipated for weeks.  Several court physicians had failed to cure him and had been beheaded for their failure.

The king offered half his kingdom to anyone who could effect a cure - many tried, failed and were beheaded.

One day an old tramp arrived at the palace and promised a cure, in desperation, the  King agreed to let him try.

He took the King, on horseback, to a clearing in the forest where there was a hole with a plank across it.  Sit on there and your bowels will empty, said the tramp.  The King sat on the plank and spent the next 20 minutes in joyous relief!

Finally he finished and asked the tramp how he had succeeded when so many had failed.  Look down the hole said the tramp.  The King looked down and was shocked to see a pathetic figure at the bottom, covered in excrement.  "Who is that poor man" said the King?"  The tramp answered "That's Benedict - everyone shits on him!"

the pharma industry stands to lose billions of dollars/pounds annually if diabetics can treat themselves via diet and prevent progression onto needing medication... the food industry stands to lose billions annually again if it gets out that low carb is the way we should be going rather than the current low fat diet they're pushing...

there's plenty of motive for them to cause discord in any forum which has been having success in helping T2 diabetics to halt the progression into needing medication and eventually insulin to control their sugar levels...

They see us as a cash cow to milk as we progress to needing more and more medical intervention while we're following the official "healthy" carbs with every meal guidelines...

Diabetes.co.uk exposed as big pharma, junk product shills and money grabbing exploiters !

This post says all you need to know ! Stand by for massive damage limitation ! Trouble is we have seen it so many times before !

40,000 person forum? What rubbish - there are about 100 who post regularly and the ones that post the most, the ones that help the most have been banned?

What rank idiocy - I've given hundreds of hours to this forum but all of the banned have given far more. For what? To be slapped in the face for the privilege of providing free content.

I'm not posting again until they return and if they don't then what's the point if that's how your forum stars get treated?

Good work Mods.

WTF is going on around here?
These guys that have been banned (for whatever their supposed crime - of which I know nothing about) are some of the most helpful folks around. Were they not the same ones though that were being ridiculed and slated on that other forum last week or whenever? Have we been taken over by the chiefs of that forum or something?
I guess thinking like this may be a bit cynical, but something is definitely afoot here and I don't like it at all. This place used to be a happy, helpful area where answers could be found to pretty much anything. Now it feels like a hostile, cold, war zone that is not at all welcoming.
If it is to continue, things need to change big time in my opinion.
Sorry if this upsets anyone and if I run the risk of getting banned, that's fine as I too don't feel much like posting on here anymore.

Carlo Spaghetti walks out on Team Lowcarb Anti !

In a shock move Carlo Spaghetti threw in the towel at Team Lowcarb Anti today. With half the first team drug addicted and the others totally unfit due to years of dietary induced illness, even the great man realised he was battling against a lost cause. At a press conference today he apologised to the lowcarb anti fans but stated the team was beyond hope, and the problems with their current stadium, which has been derelict and falling to bits for years, left him no option but to call it a day. He stated the management were only interested in exploitation and money, and the club was heading for Palookaville big time.

The timing of his resignation has angered many fans, especially as a rumour is beginning to emerge, he has been offered a five year contract to run a new team of lowcarb superstars, in a new purpose built stadium, still under construction at a secret address. This coincides with another rumour that PR and advertising gurus Wingnut and Beantipper are putting a massive advertising campaign together to recruit new fans.

Watch this space for further announcements. Old fans that wish to purchase a season ticket at the new venue can post a comment on this thread marked private do not publish or email us from the contact page of www.lowcarbdiabetic.co.uk  All old fans warmly welcomed.

Has Pneu a twin?

I can no longer be a member let alone a moderator of a forum whose administration team have consistently shown poor management,
http://thelowcarbdiabetic.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/tonight-i-have-asked-that-my-forum.html For someone who shows such a disregard for admin and the remaining mods he sure does have a lot to say for himself.

Team Lowcarb Anti dealt another blow !

The sports world is reeling tonight after the latest scandal hit the news stands. Carlo Spaghetti is said to be considering his position as head coach for Team Lowcarb Anti, when it was revealed that one of his assistants had been caught red handed talent spotting for the manager of Team ABC. The team run by the fat ex copper that used to be mod, and ex coach of Pipe Fitters United.

Carlo Spaghetti was considered the best coach in the world before his move to Team Lowcarb Anti, but the games insiders thought  Spaghetti had bit off even more than he could chew. How long will he continue trying to get this team of misfits and losers into shape, only time will tell, but time is running out for the antis.

The Sun

Stop the press. News got even worse for the antis tonight when the FA reversed a 4 match banning order on one of the worlds best strikers, and Jo Defrenski was back in the good guys team for the next big match.

CarbsRok living in a world of fantasy and lies !

With respect Pneu.
the behaviour you mention has been going on for years.
I was made a mod a few years back I never took up that position due to the threatening pm's and emails I recieved.
One of those threats was to torch my stables with my horses in them, if I din't F off out of it. This was all done in the time your bested friend was running amock on this forum with all his sockpuppets and friends.
Why you ask? Ok I will tell you...... it's because I dare to eat carbs and horrors of horrors I have a pump.
Everyone needs to get a life grow up and be thankfull you do have a life.
The behaviour of certain members would even get them expelled from play group it's so childish.

Let’ put the record straight on the post above made by CarbsRok. She did take up the moderators job and made a complete hash of it under the forum name SarahQ the most aggressive anti lowcarber in the forums history. When she was fired she spent three days deleting around 3000 of her own posts. In a phone call to Dan at the time, he stated it amused him watching her, because if she had contacted him he could have deleted all her posts with one click of a mouse. This person then started the forum diabetes for life with another fired mod Tubolard, the forum failed miserably. She then joined Tubolard aka Carbophile as his hench women there using the name CarbsUnited. Sometime while this was going on, she rejoined diabetes.co.uk as CarbsRok, incidentally, she deleted many of her earlier posts as can be evidenced to this day.

The fuss for the most part is not over factions.. its over the fact that members on this forum manipulated vulnerable people.. by directing them to other sites / blogs.. one of these people was a man who was terminally ill and very afraid, another was Lucy and I have examples of numerous others who don't want to be public identified.

Admin were made aware a number of times and chose to do nothing.. these people were intimidated on this forum via PM.. they were hounded and ridiculed on other forums by members on this forum and again nothing was done by the admin here... the ONLY time something was done was when legal action was threatened by one of the individuals against the primary forum in question.

Now we can all sit and argue over diets... that I have no problem with.. the bottom line however is that there are people who regularly post on here; one of whom is a moderator that were complicit in directing and cohering new vulnerable people on this forum so that they could be manipulated.

This has been raised time and time again and nothing is done.. certain groups of people on this forum now feel like they are being victimised when these individuals remain yet they get PMs and threats of life time bans from the forum administrators about relatively minor offenses.. indeed Defran's ban reason was for a comment she had made months ago... not even for a comment she made in the post yesterday... how is that even reasonable? So people now feel like they need to do something to get herd and I don't blame them.. two moderators have resigned today myself included over the whole hypocrisy of the situation.. I suspect another couple may follow..

This is much more serious that a stupid argument over a number of carbs to eat.. and it defiles a memory of a good friend of a number of us to suggest as such... a man who unfortunately went to his grave being hounded whilst DCUK sat by and done nothing.. That's got to stink in anyone's book no matter which side of the carb line you sit..

Then the KGB got at his post and reduced it to this.

Ah yes the person who had to threaten legal action against other members due to their vile treatment is disgraceful for expecting a response from the forum admin after numerous PMs / requests that something be done..

Diabetes.co.uk Prove once again it’s all about money !

I have lost count of the times I have praised and urged people to join diabetes.co.uk. I and the team here were early members over four years ago. Back in those days the forum had less than two thousand members. A man called Fergus Craig joined the forum. A type one diabetic who introduced us to people like Bernstein, Taubes, Kendrick and many others. Fergus was and still is a lowcarb super star. HbA1c in the fours, lipids of a kid and running marathons and competing in hundred mile bike races against men half his age and non diabetic. Without any exaggeration Fergus put many extra complication free years on so many lives. A man to be revered and respected, but not by all.

He was attacked almost immediately by a complete imbecile of a dietition and Director of BDA, (who disappeared without trace deleting her own posts when her true identity was outed here) and a small group of other lowcarb antis. Some of those people post to the present day and feature in many posts on this blog. Many active lowcarbers were banned. Yours truly, Graham, John Wilson, Ray Davis, Wallycorker the list is long. Hundreds probably thousands of potentially good members have gone, lowcarbers just called it a day and walked. Thread locking and deletion of posts carries on to the present day, and the vast majority of trouble caused by the same few people over four years.

History repeats itself. Other lowcarbers are being thread locked, banned and threatened. With almost all the  success coming from lowcarbers, the $64000 question has to be why ? Why does the forum allow complete idiots to post year after year and remain members ? People such as Noblehead, Sid Bonkers, Phoenix, Jopar etc. Staunch anti lowcarbers who have caused countless thread locks and trouble. It must be because that’s how the owners want it !

The forum is owned by an outfit called SiteFinders UK. This company specialises in exploitation. Payday loans, exploiting the financially disadvantaged, Online Dating, exploiting the lonely, Diet UK exploiting the over weight, OK you’re getting the picture. Disadvantaged, or people in trouble can be a very good money earner. Even when you are banned from the diabetes forum the sales and marketing emails flood in. Trust me I have been banned under a number of names, but I’m still in the total member count and still get the emails.

I’m still a member and have a look around on a regular basis, and the list of members who have never posted is very, very long. The last thing the owners want is a forum that big pharma and junk food outfits perceive as lowcarb. There is very little money in lowcarb. Who wants a DCUK high carb hamper, who wants a ludicrous plastic over priced diet plate, who wants an Antony Worrall Thompson recipe book, which is about as much use as a rubber beak on a woodpecker (Jeez the guy is more obese than I ever was) when you are a lowcarber, who wants to pay well over the odds for special socks and test strips from the main site, when you are well in control by lowcarbing. Need I go on ? The list of members is a marketing list, as individuals they mean nothing to the management ! From the SiteFinders website.

“Lead generation is simple. Why? When you're using targeted domains and expert user profiling you know exactly how to approach your visitor. More than that, you know what they want; and you know why they've just popped into your store. Our sites hosting forms have unique visitor to lead conversion rates of over 30%. Our front end team are world experts in maximising lead generation conversion.”

So there you have it, SiteFinders don’t give a monkeys for diabetics or anyone else I suspect, it’s all about money. Again from their website.

“Diabetes.co.uk doesn't belong to Sitefinders, it belongs to the community” If you believe that, you won’t have any trouble in believing I will be the next Pope.

Eddie

Quote of the day !

"As far as I can see the original problem was nothing to do with such discussion, more to do with almost throw away comments which were (and I agree) scaremongering."

From phoenix who has been scaremongering on the forum for years.

It gets even more surreal from Noblyhead the biggest groveling shit stirrering weasel on the forum !

"There's a faction on the forum trying their best to disrupt the forum and spoil it for the many, hopefully the Admin will remove these threads and we can all get back to normal and begin helping one another and welcoming newbies to the forum, goodness knows what the forum looks like today for people looking in for the first time :("

Tonight I have asked that my forum account be removed from DCUK.

I can no longer be a member let alone a moderator of a forum whose administration team have consistently shown poor management, questionable moral judgement and a lack of any sort of thought through decision making.. We have a forum that is being administrated by two young adults who lack the appropriate skill set / experience to act decisively.

DCUK have members that are having to resort to legal action against other members to stop bullying and personal attacks and the administration team have done nothing.. DCUK have a moderator (Daisy) who has been implicated by multiple users as actively targeting them and directing them to ABC Diabetes so that they can be caught up and manipulated.. the end result of which was a terminally ill man being harassed to his death bed and other members seeking legal advice re: DCUK; what have they done? NOTHING.. DCUK have an administration team that has totally lost contact with the day to day feeling of general forum members; promoting a moderation approach that stifles meaningful discussion and treats members like children... two examples today where the overwhelming feeling in the thread was totally ignored and the threads moderated / closed.

Today DCUK banned / threaten certain members who are active contributors with previous good behaviour for doing nothing but voicing a harsh yet TRUTHFUL fact that diabetes does kill... members who have actively support said community over the past six months... the sort of members that DCUK should be protecting and nurturing in order to ensure a strong community going forward. If contributors can't tell the truth, if posts are removed or edited for presenting the harsh yet frank reality of diabetes and life then what is the point of a discussion forum? If people can't have a view then why should they bother? why don't we just redirect the website to DUK...

Anyway that's me done with DCUK

Best Regards To All

Pneu

Truth not wanted at diabetes.co.uk

Re: Grim Reaper Comments

Postby anna29 » 1 minute ago
Right everyone!!!
No matter how right or wrong you feel it is - to know of the shocking factors
of diabetes complications.
We 'do' have a diabetes complications thread for debate/discussions on such matters.

To use grim reaping, loss of limbs/eye sight as threats to the community as an "or else"
this is your future etc...
Isnt acceptable nor tollerated here at DCUK.
DCUK is supposed to be a positive supporting structure.
To assist and help others without fear nor trepidation !!!

If this thread continues in the same vein[s] of scaring/ deliberate threats to others.

I am sorry but it will have to be locked.

Anna.

Diabetes.co.uk back to the despotic Cugila days ?

Many old timers will remember the days when Cugila was at the helm of diabetes.co.uk. Banning, thread deletion, thread locking and members post alteration was a daily occurrence. The management turned a blind eye while the dosh was coming in, until I had a chat with Jimmy Moore on a pod cast. Kenny boy was issued an exit visa swiftly, Kenny never realised it was all about money, and money talks.

Have the Stalinist days returned? Thread locking, and a very good post was deleted tonight, that was made by a moderate and polite member of the forum. Why was it deleted, and by whom, we need to be told !

Benedict at diabetes.co.uk Has he been subjected to third degree tactics ?

I like Benedict at diabetes.co.uk our favourite forum. A forum administrators and moderators job can be a thankless task at times, especially when dealing with boat rockers and lowcarb militants like me. Benedict is a young type one diabetic who is one of the very small number of type ones holding safe BG numbers, over 90% of type ones do not get to a safe HbA1c according to the annual NHS audits. Clearly Benedict knows what he is doing, and in my opinion, he is a very even handed and fair forum mod. As with almost all the forum members, who have gained excellent control of their diabetes, Benedict is a lowcarber. He made a post today that left me a little bewildered, had he had a boozy lunch time ?, had he been doing a bit of DIY and using high solvent glue ? One thing’s for sure, his post was very much out of character to what we have come to expect. Then it dawned on me, had he been got at, had he been subjected to some third degree ?

Look at it this way. One prominent member of diabetes.co.uk recently tried to get a policy statement out of the management of diabetes.co.uk regarding diet and drew a blank. The answer is obvious, if DCUK became known as a lowcarb forum it would cost them a great deal in advertising revenue and sales. Let us never forget, diabetes is one of the worlds greatest earners, that’s why diabetes.co.uk exists. It never was and will never be some sort of benevolent philanthropic venture, it is there to advertise money earning services and products. Helping people is secondary, and 100% down to the many members, who work tirelessly for no financial reward whatsoever.

I see the thread has now been locked, that post of Benedict’s back fired big time for sure. The big question is why did he post it, and was he ordered by the bean counters ?
