The APHO Diabetes Prevalence Models [Ref 1] provide estimates of total diabetes prevalence (diagnosed and undiagnosed) for people aged 16 years and older in England, Scotland and Wales (currently 3,750,000) for 2010, 2015, 2020, 2025 and 2030. The estimates for 2030 make for very depressing reading.
England Scotland Wales Total
2030 4,603,363 396,931 311,334 5,311,628
If there is no change in the NHS diabetes control strategy, the consequences for the 5 million individuals and NHS budgets are dire.

Without a doubt some hard choices will have to be made with rising demands on NHS resources.
