All diabetic patients aged 12 years
and over should receive all of the nine NICE recommended care processes. The
nine care processes include five risk factors (BMI, blood pressure,
smoking, HbA1c, and serum cholesterol) and four tests for early complications (digital
eye photography, laboratory urine microalbumin/creatinine ratio, serum
creatinine and foot nerve and circulation examination).
In England, only 54.3 per cent of
people with diabetes had records showing all nine care processes*
had been completed between January 2010 and March 2011.
In Wales, only 60.0 per cent of
people with diabetes had records showing all nine care processes*
had been completed between January 2010 and March 2011.
*For patients under 12 years of
ages, ‘all care processes’ is defined as HbA1c only as other care process are
not recommended in the NICE guidelines for this age group.

Yet more grim news. The standard of diabetes care in the UK is pitiful at times. As in so many walks of life it's the butt kickers that get what they need. Everyone needs to become a butt kicker.
The NHS has been paid for by the people, they have the right to deserve far more than they are getting.

Should we really be surprised at this. There are a few diabetics who do receive the help, tests etc they are entitled to. There is also still a postcode lottery that determines what is readily available to the young and old.It's wrong and we need to speak out.
