Are diabetics the laziest and most apathetic bastards in the world ?

As mentioned yesterday, a member at the forum of flog DCUK started a couple of polls. So a forum that boasts a hundred thousand members and always hundreds of member logged in, and the polls running the thick end of two days, what has the response been like ? Pathetic ! The big read over the last 24 hours is about some goon that scoffed 6 cream eggs. Yep ya couldn't make it up. The way most of the membership bugger about controlling their diabetes, you would think the betus was a equivalent to a minor cold.

On the poll which asks "Do you think that the importance of reducing the total amount of carbohydrates eaten needs to be made more clear by health care professionals to newly-diagnosed diabetics?"  69 members had voted at the time of writing.

On the poll "Have you found that notably reducing the amount of rice, pasta, potatoes, cereals, and other flour-based foods that you eat has helped with your diabetes control?

Helping with your diabetes control means one or more of the following things.

1) It significantly lowered your hBA1c
2) It helped you lose weight.
3) It minimise
s or has reduced the medication you need to take.
4) It reduced the amount of insulin you use.
5) It significantly reduced the frequency of hypos.
6) It has controlled or even reversed diabetic complications you were suffering."

Only 61 have bothered to vote. Pitiful I reckon, don't get me wrong, full marks to the people trying to make a difference, I have the highest respect for them. But Jesus Christ they deserve more support than they are getting. If the average fair minded members, put a fraction of the time in as the anti low carb wreckers put in, the forum could have achieved some great things over the years. Sure it has helped me and many others, but when I think what it could have achieved, it's lamentable.

So, if you read this blog and are a member of the flog, get over there and vote, what ever way you vote get over there and do something, anything other than nothing. It seems the place is a social and cakes and commiserations club rather than a forum to discuss a very serious and life threatening disease, am I right or am I right ?

Post edit. Sorry folks I couldn't let this one go, re the polls from Giverny the flog manager.

"Hi all - just so we're clear on this, Xyzzy has been given permission to post this by the research approval team at DCUK."

The "research approval team" The crew that run DCUK couldn't research a button on a teddy bears arse. What pretentious clap trap.

Eddie, do you think the "high carbers" might find their retinopathy makes it difficult for them to see the question?

You're not too far wrong with the laziest and pathetic bastards part. With the exception of a few who have taken control of the diabetes the majority are just weak scared little rabbits who prefer to play word games than try to give up their biscuits and cakes.

The diabetes situation in the UK is grim, so many sit back and wait to die, or have limbs amputated. Why do not more fight, what have we got to lose ?

Apathy kills more diabetics than anything else, that and rubbish information from HCP's who are unfit for purpose.

Admiration to anyone who trys to change the ridiculous diet that has been the recommendation to diabetics for too many years. Bernstein is the man to pay attention to. But you have to want to "conquer" and realise the harm that diabetes can do. Many shut their eyes and close their ears. Their loss but my gain because I did change my diet and kept to eating a much healthier food plate. You have to want to control your diabetes and live a longer, fuller and more active life. Your time and quality of life must dissipate if you don't. A bit like smoking or drinking to excess you know it harms and you may continue with it.

At fear of repeating what has been said for many years we are all different and how we choose to take control of our life by having a healthier outlook is down to each of us.

I know what mine has been.

No doubt about that, the Governor if you want to know how to control BG numbers and live a long and active life.

If one thing will break me, it is the apathy from so many diabetics.

Well done for giving it your best shot. What more can we do ?

Too right Eddie.....! Along with wrong information about diet and guidelines to the best BG figures to aim for.
