Royal Choral Society: 'Hallelujah Chorus' from Handel's Messiah

Saturday night again and Saturday is music night on this blog. This being such a special weekend for Christians, this short extract seems most appropriate to start tonight's music. The Royal Choral Society has performed Handel's Messiah on Good Friday at the Royal Albert Hall every year since 1878. The RCS filmed their performance on 6 April 2012 by kind permission of the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Eddie

Fifty and more years ago, when I used to listen to pop songs on Radio Luxemburg, my father complained that "they repeat the same words over and over again". Later he was listening to Handel's Messiah.

He could be funny though, he used to refer to Handel's "Music For The Royal Waterworks"

Thanks for your comment.

Oh Radio Luxembourg ... that takes me back. Listening on my very small transistor radio to Radio Luxembourg with a very wavering reception from time to time ... but fun times!
Read, find out, more about this radio station here:

I can see why your father referred to this wonderful piece of music as "Music For The Royal Waterworks". I like the Classic FM site for more details about Handel here:

All the best Jan

I'm a Type 2 diabetic and once rewrote it as: "Carbohydrate! Carbohydrate! For the fat slob omnipotent reigneth..." etc. My friends were amused.
