I've always liked the Christmassy oven gloves pictured above. They are so cheery and you are almost waiting impatiently for the dish to be cooked and ready to be safely taken out of the oven to use them. The last pair I bought were green and have provided faithful service in the kitchen. Have you got a favourite pair you use? Are they Christmassy? At this time of year they are essential for safely removing all the delicious food you may be preparing and cooking. Read on for a little more about these important kitchen accessories.
Wearing oven gloves can provide numerous benefits, including:
- Protection from burns: Oven gloves can protect your hands from burns and injuries when handling hot cookware, dishes, and oven racks.
- Improved grip: Oven gloves can provide a secure grip on hot cookware and dishes, reducing the risk of accidents and spills.
- Comfort: Oven gloves can provide comfort and protection when handling hot cookware and dishes, allowing you to cook and bake with confidence.
- Hygiene: Oven gloves can prevent the transfer of bacteria and other microorganisms from your hands to food and cookware.
When choosing oven gloves, consider the following factors:
- Material: Look for oven gloves made from heat-resistant materials, such as silicone, cotton, or a combination of both.
- Thickness: Choose oven gloves that are thick enough to provide adequate protection but not so thick that they compromise dexterity.
- Size: Choose oven gloves that fit comfortably, allowing for a full range of motion.
- Style: Consider the style of oven gloves that suits your needs, such as mitts, gloves, or sleeves.
There are several types of oven gloves available, including:
- Mitts: These are the most common type of oven glove, providing protection for the palm and fingers.
- Gloves: These provide protection for the entire hand, including the fingers and wrist.
- Sleeves: These provide protection for the forearm and wrist, ideal for handling large or heavy cookware.
In addition to choosing the right oven gloves, here are some additional tips for using them safely and effectively:
- Always wear oven gloves when handling hot cookware or dishes: This may seem obvious, but it’s essential to wear oven gloves every time you handle hot cookware or dishes.
- Choose the right size: Make sure the oven gloves fit comfortably, allowing for a full range of motion.
- Use oven gloves in conjunction with other safety precautions: Oven gloves are just one part of a comprehensive safety plan. Always use other safety precautions, such as a thermometer and a timer, when cooking and baking.
- Replace oven gloves regularly: Oven gloves can wear out over time, losing their heat-resistant properties. Replace them regularly to ensure continued protection.

...to be honest, I grab whatever is in the drawer!
My oven gloves are navy blue and white stripes.
I like the ones in your picture.
Tina

J.P.Alexander ...
Thanks for the tips. I have gel gloves that are very useful to me. I send you a kiss
Mine depend upon the season. Right now they are Christmas mitts.
Our oven gloves are boring. And I will confess to using a tea towel if I am in a hurry.
I have silicone gloves -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
I have pot holders. Some are lined terry cloth and some are quilted ones that a friend made me years ago. All are still in good shape. No Christmassy ones, unless you count that my terry ones are dark green. Does that count??? LOL
I prefer pot holders which are padded squares.
I've always used pot holders and by now I'm so used to them that I might find oven mitts awkward. I do have pot holders for all occasions and seasons though.
Nice read, Jan. I use two oven clothes.
I have a few pairs of oven gloves...they work fine.
I do definitely use gloves. I've been burned so I'm very careful.
Hello Jan, Although I do have oven gloves I rarely use them. I find them stiff and awkward to use. A couple of good potholders is what I use. I don't have any Christmassy ones - just blue with lemons on them.
Mine are looking a bit worse for wear. Maybe I should have put them on my Christmas list.
I usually use the square hot pad sort that have a good insulation. I have used all sorts over the years, some make me very clumsy and contribute to burns. Once I had some cloth ones filled with kapok that were like a mitten, with a thumb and all, they were very good.
Here's to a good pair of oven gloves for Christmas! Debbie
I'm wishing I had some Christmassy oven gloves now. 🎅
You got an analytic mind for everything
I do not have the oven gloves, only potholders.
Take care, have a great day!
Jan I use red silicone oven gloves in my kitchen year round. I bought them years ago and they still protect me when needed. Have a happy day!
Mine are from ALDI, for "adults", nearly up to my elbows.
I like having bright things around me. Winter can be so dull.
I've had the same ones for years. I bought a Hallowe'en set this year but still haven't used them. Mine are the same style as the photo. But at work we use plastic mitts style which I am not that keen on!
Curently using a convection oven, ours has been out for 3 years but stovetop still works. I have old mitts with coffee and herb designs. Cant wait to fully bake again!
I don't usually wear the gloves -- mostly I use potholders. But yes, I have Christmas ones, too!
I have so many in the drawer. Some are even from my mom, given to me when I got married, decades ago. They still work and now they're sentimental favorites, too.
W used to have some Christmas potholders now we use some that Shari has made.
I have pot holders that I made from wool--not Christmasy, though. I used to have Christmas pot holders years ago that someone gave me, but I didn't use them--just put them up in the kitchen for a festive decoration. I like the little robin on the ones pictured.
My favorite mitts are from King Arthur Baking Company.
I have mitts and just regular square pot holders.
We use some I made. They have a layer of insulbrite and two layers of batting...oh, and they are pot holders not gloves/mits.
I don't cook!!! On the rare occasion that I need Mitts, I use my sweatshirt sleeves or a dish towel. I do have a pair of those heat proof gloves add some potholder somewhere. Have a merry Christmas.
I wish they made kid sized mitts because they are always way to big and awkward on my hands. But I like a mitt.
I have a pair that was given me for our wedding shower, many years ago but i generally use hot pads instead, and yes I have a favorite pair of those :)
Tengo algunos en el cajón, suelo usar más los paños de cocina. Besos.
