Health benefits of a low carb diet
Why would you consider eating fewer carbs? There are many potential benefits, proven by science and supported by clinical experience, like these:-Lose weight
Most people start eating fewer carbs to lose weight. Studies have shown that low carb diets are at least as effective — if not more effective — than other diets.
Low carb makes it easier to lose weight without hunger and without having to count calories. According to recent studies, a low carb diet can even result in burning more calories than other diets.
Reverse type 2 diabetes
Low carb diets can help reduce or even normalize blood sugar and thus potentially reverse type 2 diabetes. As the American Diabetes Association notes, carbohydrate reduction of any level is likely an effective tool for blood sugar control.
Low carb can also be helpful in managing type 1 diabetes.
A grateful gut
Low carb might help settle a grumpy gut, often reducing symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as bloating, gas, diarrhoea, cramps, and pain. Indigestion, reflux and other digestive issues can sometimes improve, too.
For some, this is the best part of going low carb and happens usually within the first few days, or first week, of starting the diet.
Reduce sugar cravings
Are you struggling to stay away from sweet foods, even though you try to eat them in “moderation?” Many people do. A low carb diet can often reduce and sometimes even eliminate cravings for sweets.
Bonus benefits
Weight loss, lower blood sugar, improved mental clarity, and a calmer digestive system are the most frequently cited benefits of low carb eating. But some people experience even more improvements, some of which can be life-changing:-
Lower blood pressure and other improvements in risk factors for heart disease,
Less acne and better skin,
Fewer migraines,
Improved mental health symptoms,
Better fertility, and more...

...staying healthy is my plan for 2025.
Well said -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
My husband was pre-diabetic, and we both began to cut carbs, and weight has dropped off us, especially him! It definitely makes a huge difference to eat more protein and vegetables, than carbs. I appreciate all you share here, a belated Merry Christmas to you, and a Happy New Year!
Since Mr. M. cancer surgery we have been trying to drop the carbs. Your blog helps us do that. Thank you.
Word is moderation.
Thank you. Something to consider.
I am going to start back reading your very thorough blog with a view to amending my diet. Since the Pandemic and my diagnosis I am ashamed that I have let my once healthy diet slide and this is not to my benefit as I have gained weight and now have additional issues to address. Thank you for all your information, which I find is thorough and easy to comprehend.
Here's to a healthier 2025! Debbie
It definitely helps to prevent reflux.
Low carb is good, keto is better, and carnivore is the best :-)) Happy Friday, Jan.
Thank you for the information. Let’s stay healthy all through 2025. Keep cooking, keep smiling.

Interesting Jan and good information.
Mi servirebbe proprio per ridurre la voglia di zuccheri, che ormai sono un' ossessione
Happy New Year to you! Betty
This is a very good post. I have been on low carb diet for 2 years
Hello,
Great info on the low carb diet.
Take care, Happy Friday! Have a great weekend.
Jan, After reading this post I really do think I need to at least give the low carb diet a trial for a month or so. Being an old guy I’m lucky that I don’t need to lose weight but I do like (and need 😊) some of the other benefits. Thank you for sharing this and all the links. I hope your year is getting off to a good start. Right now, I’m looking forward to a little more daylight which will encourage me to get out and enjoy nature. Best regards to you from Seattle! John
PS I happened to notice your reply to J.P. and checked out the link. Wow, that one is for me! Going to get Celeriac at the grocery today and give it a try. Thanks! John
Let's all start as we mean to go on and reap the benefits of a sensible diet. There's no better place to start than this blog, so thank you, Jan.
I agree completely. I lost a lot of weight over the past couple of years or so with that. And carb fans can gently add them -- too restrictive can make things too hard to follow. You have some good recipes in your blog to make it easier!
I should also live healthier again after the holidays. Good that you reminded me!
Thanks!
Greetings Elke

I would really need it to reduce the craving for sugar, which is now an obsession
Hello Stefania
Many people do have craving for sugar, there is an article "Ways to Fight Sugar Cravings" you may find helpful to read, find it using this link :-

This is a very good reminder. I get lax but at least I eat more bread and desserts made with almond flour. It's not low calorie but it's filling and satisfying. Happy New year my friend, Diane
It does have so many benefits :-D
I have been a bit naughty with my diet over the last few weeks but hopefully I will get back to a more healthy diet soon.
Such good advice and ideas, we try and have a non carb lunch, and it works for us.. you asked is comments went into my spam, I didn't know there was a spam box!
I would have never thought of improved mental clarity, and a calmer digestive system. Great post about low carbs diet!

Hello Chris
I did also answer you on your blog but my spam folder shows when there are only two icons next to a comment, not sure if yours is the same? Blogger does seem to cause the occasional glitch with commenting.
With the weekend almost here, I wish you a good one and stay warm and safe, the weather forecast is not good!
All the best Jan
Sounds like lots of benefits.
Yes!! I tried it this year and my IBS calmed down considerably. Of course during the holidays I went a little carb crazy, so this is a great reminder to cut back. Thanks Jan and Happy New Year!
Very good info, Jan. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
My joints were beginning to feel achy, and I thought it was down to me finally feeling my age. As it turns out, I was simply eating too many carbs. Xx
