MISSION STATEMENT

"The culture and civilization of the White man are essentially material; his measure of success is, "How much property have I acquired for myself?" The culture of the Red man is fundamentally spiritual; his measure of success is, "How much service have I rendered to my people?" Ernest Thompson Seton

Diabetes does not cause diabetic complications. Complications are brought about by high blood glucose numbers and highly elevated serum insulin levels.

Diabetes does not have to be a progressive disease. Obtain non diabetic blood glucose numbers and live a long and active life.

The best medication is no/minimal medication that allows you to control your condition. Why take unnecessary medication when the correct diet and exercise can achieve so much ?

The reason for this site.

To help fellow diabetics and to repay the people that have helped us.

Fresh from Carbopiles blog ! Our issues with Edie are:

1. He is arrogant enough to assume that he knows more about us and our diabetes than we do;
2. We just don't like him;
3. He is abusive to anyone who disagrees with him;
4. We just don't like him;
5. No method of controlling diabetes is valid unless laid down by him - despite evidence of successful management techniques;
6. We just don't like him;
7. He doesn't understand the difference between debate and personal attacks;
8. Carbosoze;
9. We just don't like him;
10. The Ides of Starch.

I think the message is “We just don't like him;” Can you imagine, how gutted I would be, if any of Carbo’s/Tubolards, misfits, losers and the failed, actually liked me ? For years these miscreants have followed me and tried to divert me from the lowcarb cause. I am flattered they are obsessed with me, but they overdone the abuse and ridicule years ago. As they say, what ever gets your rocks off eh. They must be orgasmic ! Enjoy !

Would you buy a used car from this man ?

NewdestinyX

The forum d.co.uk is settling down nicely these days, lowcarbers are reporting regular successful control of their diabetes. Lowcarbing is back on the agenda big time. The mods and administration are fair and even handed, and the days of banning, thread locking and editing of posts that do not comply with a particular lifestyle, or the whim of one mod are over.

Fortunately the entertainment continues. NewdestinyX is either a genius, or a madman, I haven’t figured it out yet ! One thing's for sure, he is one hell of a boat rocker. It’s my personal opinion he talks a lot of nonsense and clearly other members think the same. But hey, as we have seen in the past with other anti lowcarbers, they do more for the lowcarb cause than almost anyone. As long as the argument continues, and people talk about lowcarbing, the newly diagnosed will wonder what all the fuss is about. The grief is like a car crash, we know looking at one will not do us any good, but it is very hard to ignore !

In the last three years, I have spent thousands of hours researching the control of type two diabetes. All that work can be summarised in one sentence. Dump the foods that lead to your diabetes, i.e. carbs, and stay clear of medication for as long as you can hold non diabetic BG numbers. What could be easier ?

Heart Disease and Carbohydrate Restrictive Diets.

The high carbohydrate / low fat diet of the past fifty years has left us with a massive ongoing epidemic of obesity and type-2 diabetes yet those agencies responsible for this incredible nutritional "faux pas" are still denying their role.

Instead of admitting they have made a gross error in judgment these past many decades, they have taken the position of sniping at every attempt being made by responsible leaders to get this country's diet back on track and have become the principle perpetrators of the myth that carbohydrate restriction is harmful.

When I read of the accomplishments of such medical scientists as Bernstein, himself a juvenile diabetic, who as a young non-professional had to take his diabetes treatment into his own hands to save his life, I am filled with shame at how inadequate treatment standards have been.

Metabolic Effects of the Very-Low-Carbohydrate Diets: Misunderstood "Villains" of Human Metabolism.

A must read article, one of the best I have read. Thanks to pianoman over at d.co.uk for posting this link.

"During very low carbohydrate intake, the regulated and controlled production of ketone bodies causes a harmless physiological state known as dietary ketosis. Ketone bodies flow from the liver to extra-hepatic tissues (e.g., brain) for use as a fuel; this spares glucose metabolism via a mechanism similar to the sparing of glucose by oxidation of fatty acids as an alternative fuel. In comparison with glucose, the ketone bodies are actually a very good respiratory fuel. Indeed, there is no clear requirement for dietary carbohydrates for human adults. Interestingly, the effects of ketone body metabolism suggest that mild ketosis may offer therapeutic potential in a variety of different common and rare disease states."

Carbohydrates not essential.

"There are three kinds of foods--fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. All of these provide calories. But the carbohydrates provide calories and nothing else. They have none of the essential elements to build up or to repair the tissues of the body. A man, given carbohydrates alone, however liberally, would starve to death on calories. The body must have proteins and animal fats. It has no need for carbohydrates, and, given the two essential foodstuffs, it can get all the calories it needs from them."

Sir Heneage Ogilvie, former vice president of the Royal College of Surgeons, England.

The earliest and primary proponent of an all animal-based diet was Vilhjalmur Stefansson, a Canadian explorer who lived with the Inuit for some time, and who witnessed their diet as essentially consisting of meat and fish, with very few carbohydrates - berries during the summer. Stefansson and a friend later volunteered for a one year experiment at Bellevue Hospital in New York to prove he could thrive on a diet of nothing but meat, meat fat and internal organs of animals.

His progress was closely monitored and experiments were done on his health throughout the year. At the end of the year, he did not show any symptoms of ill health; he did not develop scurvy , which many scientists had expected to manifest itself only a few months into the diet due to the lack of vitamin C in muscle meat. However, Stefansson and his partner did not eat just muscle meat - they ate fat, raw brain, raw liver (a significant source of vitamin C and others), and other varieties of offal. The no-carbohydrate and low carb diet often reverses type two diabetes.

We do not advocate a no carb diet, although this has been proved to be safe, it would be a very boring way to live. Some of us think of our way of life as being meat eating vegetarians. No, we are not trying to wind up vegetarians, but we base our food on fresh vegetables, then add high quality protein, then good fats. If you are consuming around 30-50 carbs per day, all from non starchy vegetables, you have a very large range to choose from. By eating the colours of the rainbow, and eating small portions, of many different types, you can get all the nutrients you need to stay healthy.

Eddie

Beware of misinformation.

It never fails to amaze me how people can study the control of diabetes and not understand the basics. So many believe carbs are essential for life. The fact is there is no such thing as essential carbohydrates, and this has been proved many years ago. Last night on d.co.uk a well read and experienced diabetic Newdestinyx stated.

“Well ditching carbs isn't good for your brain health - at least not at ultra lo levels. Your brain can ONLY survive on carbs so keep them in your diet.”

What you can begin to see from this description is that there are actually lots of different things happening in your body around glucose. Because glucose is the essential energy source for your body, your body has many different mechanisms to ensure that the right level of glucose is flowing in the bloodstream. For example, your body stores glucose in your liver (as glycogen) and can also convert protein to glucose if necessary.

Fats and proteins are essential but not carbs. We have never promoted a no carb diet. Using 30-50 carbs per day, mostly from non starchy vegetables and some fruits, will give variety to your diet, and chosen wisely, will give you all the nutrients for good health.

High cholesterol may protect against infections and atherosclerosis.

However, the lack of exposure-response in the trials between changes in LDL-cholesterol and clinical and angiographic outcome, the inverse association between change of cholesterol and angiographic changes
seen in the observational studies, the significant increase in complicated atherosclerotic lesions in the treatment group after cholesterol lowering by diet, and most of all, the fact that high cholesterol predicts longevity rather than mortality in old people, suggests that the role, if any, of high cholesterol must be trivial.

The most likely explanation for these findings is that rather than promoting atherosclerosis, high cholesterol may be protective, possibly through its beneficial influence on the immune system.

Not all Cherubs are Angels.

This type of poster causes more forum trouble than any other. They trawl the net looking for any scrap of information that throws doubt on the lowcarb lifestyle. "Butter causes heart disease" and lowcarb diets will lead to a swift demise, are the favoured posts. Posting negative articles from the tabloid press, that cannot fail to kick up a storm. When all hell breaks loose, and the lowcarbers are locked in battle with the "I love crusty white bread" and "saturated fat will kill you" mob, they scream rape. The ever present mod will wade in and come to their assistance, bellowing for calm, while at the same time, pointing the finger of blame at the low carb stalwarts. It goes without saying, the anti lowcarb vultures are soon circling overhead.

Diabetes drugs cost NHS £725m ! and the DUK diet of death !

Diabetes drugs account for 8.4% of the NHS medicines bill, costing £725 million a year.
The amount spent in 2010/11 was up 41% on the £513 million spent in 2005/06, when diabetes drugs accounted for 6.6% of the overall budget.

Bridget Turner, head of policy and care improvement at Diabetes UK, said: "This report reinforces that diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges this country faces.

"Increasing diabetes prevalence has largely caused this rise in cost and numbers of prescriptions.
"Diabetes UK believes that people should have access to the most appropriate treatment to manage their diabetes and reduce the risk of devastating complications.

"The long-term costs of poor diabetes management, such as caring for someone who's had a heart attack or stroke, lost their sight or lower limb, far outweigh those of the drugs that help prevent such complications.

"Investment in education, support and improving access to reduce variations of care will empower people to effectively self-manage their condition.

"This will tackle the spiralling rates and costs of diabetes and help those diagnosed with the condition stay healthy."

Why DUK push the eat carbs with every meal diet of death, no amount of money spent on type two diabetes drugs will alter the year after year gruesome NHS diabetes statistics.

Does a High-Fat Diet Cause Type 2 Diabetes?

It’s that time again. Your inbox is filling up with emails from your low-fat friends. Your mom left four voicemails ordering you to throw away your bacon now (and clean your room while you’re at it). Your diet-savvy coworker left a Yahoo! News article on your desk, weighted in place with a muffin. This just in: High-fat diets cause diabetes—and researchers have proof, doggonit!

Million drivers face losing licence under EU diabetes diktat !

Up to one million people with diabetes could lose their driving licences because of harsh new European rules classifying them as unfit to drive. Experts claim the ‘unnecessarily strict’ changes will affect hundreds of thousands who have been driving for decades without problems.

In fact some diabetics have found the DVLA is already using the new interpretation to ban them from the roads. Simon O’Neill, of Diabetes UK, said the new DVLA definitions of ‘severe’ and ‘recurrent’ hypoglycaemia threatened a blanket ban for many.

Up until now, severe hypos were defined as episodes where another person was needed to administer carbohydrate or take other actions during waking hours to assist the diabetic.

The new definition used by the DVLA also includes hypoglycaemia when the individual is asleep.

Mr O’Neill said the EC Directive itself does not specify nocturnal hypoglycaemia, yet the DVLA has chosen to include it in assessing fitness to drive.

Lowcarbing still a mystery to most Healthcare Professionals !

I just had my most recent check up with the hospital diabetic clinic. It was interesting, but probably in the wrong ways. Still at an HbA1c of 6.2% (slightly annoyingly). Which in new money is 44 (as I remember). 5.2% (my target) is 33. What was interesting was the very nice nurse was saying it was such a relief to see a Type 1 with good 'sugars' as most that she sees have 'a terrible time of it'

The consultant who spent quite a lot of time with me couldn't really get to grips with a low-carb diet. He said you are probably losing weight because you are cutting down on everything. I just had said to him that I was low carbing, and he also assumed that because I was eating less fat (which I'm most certainly not) that was why my triglycerides were so low (!). I didn't really have the heart to tell him I was mainly eating protein and fat. He also asked me if I were low carbing just to lose weight; the blood sugar control didn't seem to register with him.

He had not heard of the idea that losing weight could increase LDL, that general use of metformin could deplete B12 levels in the blood, that statins had effects on memory, indeed he felt that statins had very low side effect rates and were a good thing to take, even though when we got down to it he acknowledged that only 2% of people who take them will see a benefit (!) He didn't push the point though about me going back on them. He also thought the DAFNE course would be helpful for me because then I 'could then eat anything I wanted'

It's all a bit depressing; you have to be really steeled to this stuff to get out of there without abandoning the one thing that is helping one's health and glucose levels; low carbing.

Lowcarb summer fruits almond sponge cake.

OK a bumped post, have you tried it ? it's great.

Method:
Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
Melt the butter I used a Pyrex jug, add the eggs and cream, then add the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Add some lowcarb fruits, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries to the mix and spoon into a baking container. I used a silicone bread mould. Microwave in a 700watt for 6 minutes. Take out of the mould, if still damp place upside down on four layers of kitchen paper and microwave for a further one minute. Allow to cool then spread on a layer of extra thick cream, then add fruits to the top. A little tip, allow to cool on four or five layers of kitchen paper to remove any excess moisture. Serve in a bowl with some double cream. Serves eight.

Ingredients:
200g ground almonds
2 heaped teaspoons baking powder
3 medium eggs
2 tablespoons of butter
2 tablespoons double cream

Dr. Bernstein Urges Look at a Spanish Study That Bolsters the Case for Low-Carb Diets.

Recently, Dr. Bernstein alerted diabetes Health to a 2007 Spanish university study that reaches the same conclusions Dr. Bernstein did 20 years ago.

The study, “Arguments in Favor of Ketogenic Diets” by JoaquĆn PĆ©rez-Guisado, PhD, a doctor on the medical faculty at the University of CĆ³rdoba, was first published in The Internet Journal of Nutrition and Wellness in 2007.

None of Dr. PĆ©rez-Guisado’s assertions is new. His extensively footnoted study—there are 181 citations that make up about half of the paper—is a summary of conclusions reached by other scientists and researchers. “Arguments in Favor of Ketogenic Diets” is a compilation of low-carb diet data that will probably become a staple reference for low-carb advocates as the debate over diets continues.

Christine Cashin registered dietition, raises the anti!

I have just checked on the mobile phone messages, and it appears we have gone beyond the retraction of the “Welsh Bint” comment. We have been given the date of 8th. of June, and we have found the comment and deleted the words that caused offence . As suspected this phrase was not used in a blog post, but came in as a comment.

The complainant has now ratcheted up the complaint. We have now been requested to remove all references to the name of Christine Cashin from this blog. As I have stated, Christine did not deny to being Ally 5555, sportdiet, Chris and dingbat in our telephone conversation in December. If she is now retracting the confirmation, I hope she will contact us to rectify the situation. If she can offer us unequivocal proof she is not Ally 5555, Chris, Sportdiet or dingbat, we will remove all references to Christine Cashin and post a full apology for any distress caused.

Never let it be said, we are less than fair !

Eddie

Christine Cashin registered dietition, an update.

I spoke today to the Policeman re. the complaint received from a “Welsh Female” re. the comment “Welsh Bint” I found him to be a gentleman. He explained he had received a complaint from a member of the public and he was duty bound to investigate the matter. I informed him the search facility on the blog could not find this phrase, but may have been posted as a comment. He is going back to the complainant, who has a copy, and will hopefully give him information re. post date of the offending comment. He is coming back to me with the relevant information. I have agreed as a gesture of goodwill to remove the comment from this blog.

Maybe this is a good time for Chris to comment on this blog. A fair chance to explain her side of the debate/dispute. A chance to give us some sound information for maintaining our non diabetic BG numbers, our lipids of teenagers, our lack of scurvy and osteoporosis. Our lack of or minmal diabetes medication. Our lack of constipation and mood swings etc. etc.

Perhaps she will congratulate us on our ability to astound our healthcare professionals with every blood test and diabetes review.

Over to you Chris, don't hang around on Carbo's cess pit, feel free to post here ! Or give me a call, you have my number.

PS. We have found the post and deleted the comment that caused offence !

Lose weight and improve heart health naturally by walking.

Many people these days think they have to follow the latest fad diet in order to lose a lot of weight in a hurry. The hard truth is that there is actually no fast fix for weight loss. It is a gradual process that involves a will to change one's lifestyle and habits. Walking is one of the safest, most effective forms of exercise that will assist with successful weight loss and future weight, health and heart maintenance.

Ensure that you have loose but comfortable clothing to wear while walking, as well as a comfortable pair of walking shoes. It is also important to warm up by gently stretching the muscles before setting out. Cool down after walking by slowing down your pace a few minutes before arriving at your destination and ensure that you finish off with a few gentle stretches after stopping. This will minimize your risk of muscle strain and injury.

GP said that she "no longer considered me as a diabetic" !

I recently had my long overdue bloods done and thought that I should update My Story on the blog.

After 16 months since my last blood test, I reluctantly went back and had them done.  Reluctant because I was in the middle of dieting and had recently stopped all alcohol. In the past losing weight has meant a rise in my total cholesterol figures during weight loss.  My GP met me in the corridor and confirmed that I was comfortable with a student leading the diabetic review.  Quite happy to do so as I am a patient volunteer anyhow at the Graduate School of Medicine.

My GP introduced me and told the student that I was their success story so it was useful for her to see how I had chosen to address my diagnosis of T2.  She did a brief history taking and asked if I was on insulin and I told her no and no meds now whatsoever.  "So diet and exercise?" Yes, a low carb diet in which I exclude all the usual BG raising foods totally. My GP then explained to her that when one cuts out carbs seriously there is a need to increase protein and fats.  The student then asked was it akin to the Atkins diet?  I agreed but now it leaned heavily to Bernstein and then we moved on to my blood tests.

A1c down 0.1 to 5.2, total chol up to 5.4, HDL up to 2.09, trigs down to 0.71, LDL also rose but GP said that as she "no longer considered me as a diabetic, she was OK with those changes".  I queried the "non - diabetic" diagnosis and said that much as I wanted to give it away I was still diabetic.  GP said that she considered I was "at risk of developing diabetes" or pre-diabetic as for some 2 years had returned figures putting me into that range.

The student took my BP and it was high as usual first time around. Dr Vickie showed the student how to get a true reading - I take three deep breaths in and expel them forcefully each time and this time it was 110/60.  My GP offered me the option of taking home a blood test request to test again when my (own) target weight had been reached again (3.5kgs to go)  and my lipids had stabilised, which was very considerate of her.

All happy and a great way to put forward a realistic and successful approach for living with diabetes to a first year student training to be a GP.

Scary Diabetes Statistics Keep Getting Worse !

"The statistics were grimly uttered by Ann Albright, Director of the Division of Diabetes Translation for the Center for Disease Control (CDC).Additionally, she said that "of the children born in America in 2000, one in three will develop diabetes in their lifetime."

In addition, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), there are 21 million people in the United States who are diagnosed with diabetes and if something dramatic does not occur in the next 20 years, this number will double! The costs for diabetes will exceed $174 billion dollars in 2008.

These statistics do not lie. They're getting worse every day. Something has to be done NOW to help everyone who has diabetes but even more let's do all we can, as individuals,  to PREVENT diabetes (Type II)  from occurring in ourselves, our families, and our friends."

"Something has to be done NOW"

And that “something” is a big reduction in sugar/carbs. Whether diabetic or not ! Spread the word to your family and friends, work colleagues, anyone who will listen. We know what is causing the epidemics of obesity and type two diabetes, it’s up to us and the growing number of enlightened medical professionals.

Loss of weight, sodium and water in obese persons consuming a high- or low-carbohydrate diet.

Isocaloric 5.61 mJ (1,340 kcal) formula diets involving the isocaloric exchange of fat and carbohydrate were fed to 21 obese persons selected for sex, height, and weight before the start of the treatment and distributed over three groups.

The weight loss observed during the carbohydrate-restricted diets was significantly greater than during the high-carbohydrate diet. After 28 days of treatment the weight loss recorded on the high-carbohydrate diet was 9.5 +/- 0.7 kg, as compared to 11.4 +/- 0.7 kg (p less than 0.05) on the corn oil-containing diet and 12.5 +/- 0.9 kg (p less than 0.01) on the butter-fat-containing diet.

The weight loss achieved was not dependent on the type of fat administered (saturated vs. polyunsaturated). When calculated cumulatively, sodium excretion during the first 7 days was significantly greater on the low-carbohydrate diet, whereas after 28 days the total amount of sodium excreted was highest on the high-carbohydrate diet. Potassium excretion during the low-carbohydrate diets was significantly greater for as long as 14 days, but at the end of the experimental period the observed differences no longer attained statistical significance.

At no time did the intake and loss of fluid and the balances calculated therefrom show significant differences. From the findings obtained it appears that the alterations in the water and electrolyte balance observed during the low-carbohydrate diets are reversible phenomena and should thus not be regarded as causal agents of the different weight reduction.

Blessed Brian said...

"The path of the low-carb man is beset on all sides by the starch-ridden iniquities of the selfish and the breadcrumbed tyranny of evil carb pushers. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of high-carb darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost low-carb children. And I will strike down upon thee with great pecans and furious avocados those who would attempt to poison and destroy my low-carb brothers! And you will know that I am low-carb when I lay my full-fat vengeance upon thee."

2nd Macadamians, Chapter 4, Verse 8.

Low Phat !

Ashley Jacob is a registered dietitian who is on our side !

"Although the actual recommendations suggest that diabetics should consume 45 to 60 g of carbs at each meal, recent evidence now shows that people with diabetes would benefit from adopting the low-carb approach, as pointed out in the June 2006 issue of the journal "Nutrition and Metabolism." Evidence suggests that an eating plan limiting carbs to less than 50 to 60 g a day could result in weight loss, better glycemic control and improved blood cholesterol levels.

Because carbs raise blood sugar levels, it is advisable for people with diabetes to incorporate more low-carb foods into their diet. The best low-carb options include nonstarchy vegetables, such as kale, broccoli, leafy greens, cauliflower, asparagus, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, bell pepper, summer squash and green beans, as well as protein-rich foods, such as poultry, fish, seafood, meat, eggs and cheese, and healthy fats, such as avocado, olives, olive oil, coconut oil and nuts, which are practically carb-free. The fruits with the lowest carb content are berries and unsweetened dairy products, such as regular milk and plain yogurt, which can also be considered low-carb foods."

If all dietitions were like Ashley Jacob, the NHS could save a fortune on unnecessary and at times dangerous medication. Moreover, many more years of complication free life would be the norm for most diabetics.

Insulin and Its Metabolic Effects.

Do you know how much glycogen you have in your body at any one time? Very little. All the glycogen stored in your liver and all the glycogen stored in your muscle if you had an active day wouldn't last you the day.
Once you fill up your glycogen stores how is that sugar is stored, as what particular kind of triglyceride, or fatty acid? Palmitic acid. Saturated fat, ninety-eight percent of which is palmitic acid.

So the idea of the medical profession to go on a high complex carbohydrate, low saturated-fat diet is an absolute oxymoron, because those high complex carbohydrate diets are nothing but a high glucose diet, or a high sugar diet, and your body is just going to store it as saturated fat. The body makes it into saturated fat quite readily.

It doesn't just store carbohydrates, by the way. Somebody mentioned that it is an anabolic hormone, it absolutely is. Body builders are using insulin now because it is legal, so they are injecting themselves with insulin because it builds muscle, it stores protein too.

A lesser known fact is that insulin also stores magnesium. We mentioned it's role in vitamin C, it stores all sorts of nutrients. But what happens if your cells become resistant to insulin? First of all you can't store magnesium so you lose it, that's one effect, you lose it out the urine.

So then you raise your insulin, you lose magnesium, and the cells become even more insulin resistant. Blood vessels constrict, glucose and insulin can't get to the tissues, which makes them more insulin resistant, so the insulin levels go up and you lose more magnesium. This is the vicious cycle that goes on from before you were born.

Insulin sensitivity is going to start being determined from the moment the sperm combines with the egg. If your mother, while you were in the womb was eating a high carbohydrate diet, which is turning into sugar, we have been able to show that the fetus in animals becomes more insulin resistant.

Worse yet, they are able to use sophisticated measurements, and if that fetus happens to be a female, they find that the eggs of that fetus are more insulin resistant. Does that mean it is genetic? No, you can be born with something and it doesn't mean that it is genetic. Diabetes is not a genetic disease as such. You can have a genetic predisposition. But it should be an extremely rare disease.

A long but very interesting MUST read !

Low carbohydrate diets for diabetes control.

"Despite the growing incidence of type 1 and 2 diabetes and the accelerating cost of the resources needed to monitor and treat these patients, we are obviously not succeeding in reducing either the number of people affected or the severity of the complications of these conditions.

I have also encouraged my diabetic patients to try this way of eating for themselves. It is usual for patients with type 2 diabetes to experience a 2–3% drop in HbAIC after 3 months on a low carb diet. The impact on reducing complications and associated drug costs can be imagined.

The lower the carbohydrate consumed the less insulin is needed for type 1 diabetics and the less hard the pancreas has to work for type 2 diabetics. For example, insulin dependent diabetics can expect to half or third their insulin requirements. Less insulin injected results in more predictable blood sugars and less hypoglycaemia.

The medical establishment has been less than enthusiastic about adopting low carb diets. All of the usual gripes have been thoroughly debunked or can be dealt with by modifications to the diet. It is time to stop feeding patients a diet of junk science and start feeding them food that makes them well instead of sick."

Food safety false flag? USDA waited for people to die before recalling ground turkey it knew was contaminated !

Astonishingly, current USDA regulations allow a meat production facility to pass inspection even if 49.9% of the meat is contaminated with salmonella. So even when the USDA is inspecting facilities, they can be downright filthy from a pathogenic point of view, with nearly half of all the meat contaminated, and the USDA still gives it a stamp of approval! It is in this way that the USDA, which is of course a complete prostitute of the meat industry, openly allows grossly contaminated meat to be sold to an unsuspecting public which thinks that meat is "USDA inspected."

Christine Cashin Registered Dietition and Director of the BDA calls in the Police !

As some will remember, a few years ago, I could not post on the flog without my old nemesis Ally5555 commenting. Her record, if memory serves was four minutes after one of my posts.

As I have stated many times, I believe her posts have spread fear and alarm amongst the diabetic community. Using various names Ally 5555, sportdiet, Chris etc. she has rubbished low carb at every opportunity.

Sometime ago I received information that Ally 5555 was Christine Cashin. Just before Xmas, I phoned Chris to wish her a merry Xmas (no abuse, no threats) just to confirm she was Ally 5555. This she confirmed.

I used a mobile phone I very rarely use. Imagine my surprise tonight (eight months on) to find a message that came in today from a Cardiff Policeman called Hugh. He states he has received a complaint from a “Welsh female” evidently she has been described as a “Welsh Bint” ! Not my sort of vernacular, maybe a comment received, and posted, who knows. The Policeman is unavailable until Monday. But wants me to contact him.

As this phone has only been used a couple of times, I can only presume the “Welsh Female” is none other than my old nemesis Ally. I will of course contact the Policeman on Monday, and very much look forward to progressing this matter forward.

I will keep you informed.

Eddie

I'll BE BACK !

An Acknowledgement of Hypocrisy !

Over the years there have been many, many grateful acknowledgements of the help and advice given by advocates of the low carb lifestyle for diabetics. The following is a fairly typical example. My emphasis in underlined.

Slow, but sure!

by noblehead » September 4th, 2009, 11:05 am

As someone who has been insulin dependent for a number of years, I have used every excuse possible to justify my weight gain over recent years. Middle-age spread, insulin, family commitments meant less time to exercise, all the usual excuses to explain my expanding waistline.

I have seen dieticians, read books, spoke to my diabetic care team, and none have offered any constructive advice on controlling weight. Reading this forum has been helpful, and reading other peoples experiences in controlling their diabetes and improving Hba1c's, has been inspirational!

I can't recollect at any time been given advice on reducing carbs to control weight. I have always been told to eat plenty of carbs at every meal, together with the usual meat and veg. Once I was told that a bowl of cereal for breakfast was insufficient, and should include 2 slices of toast also. Looking back I can now see how flawed this advice/information has been.

Cutting back on the carbs, reducing portion size and eating sensible foods, combined with plenty of exercise has changed my approach to diabetes. I am now eating approximately half the amount of carbs I ate only 3 months back, and at last my weight is starting to drop. Before I started to cut back I was 14st 12lb, and being only 5ft 9'' was well overweight, and my BMI was 31. Today I have got on the scales and I am 14st 3lb, in total a loss of 9lb. Ideally, I would love to get down to the 12st, should this take till this time next year, I don't care much, but I will get there!

I know that 9lb is no big deal, and I still have a long way to go to get to my ideal weight. I just feel a bit miffed that I had to find out myself by reading this forum to gain this information. Somewhere, there has got to be a radical change in advice given to patients with diabetes!

Nigel”

Now either something dramatic has happened to diabetic care teams or an exhibition of Nigel’s sheer hypocrisy is given by Nigel’s posts containing the mantra  "consult your HCP" A possible explanation might be the company he keeps. I seem to remember a similar post of gratitude (and then an equally dramatic conversion to the viewpoint that diabetic care teams represented the (b)leading edge medical knowledge) from an ex-moderator named Ken. Perhaps we should dig out Ken’s acknowledgement from the files?

John

Featured great food of the week.

Red Bell Pepper
Check out the vitamin c in a bell pepper. One of the many myths regarding low carbing is we can be vit c low when we drop potatoes. A red pepper has around twelve times the vit c content per hundred grams as potato. Available all year round, great when added to a roast vegetable mix, or eaten cold and raw with a salad.

For atherosclerosis and diabetic heart disease, peppers also contain vitamin B6 and folic acid. These two B vitamins are very important for reducing high levels of homocysteine, a substance produced during the methylation cycle (an essential biochemical process in virtually every cell in the body). High homocysteine levels have been shown to cause damage to blood vessels and are associated with a greatly increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

You’ve Been Living A Lie: The Story Of Saturated Fat And Cholesterol !

Let’s make one thing clear – when someone is going to lower carbohydrate content in their diet, they should replace it mostly with fat, not protein. Eating a lot of protein with little fat and carbs may be a short term strategy for initiating fat loss, but not a healthy way of eating in the long run. A lot of people, who are willing to try or have already felt the benefits of low-carb/high-fat eating, are scared of hurting themselves, because the common knowledge is that saturated fat and cholesterol cause heart disease by clogging arteries. In reality, that is as far from the truth as Planet Earth is from the Sun!

By minimizing SF intake, it is impossible to get enough fat soluble vitamins. A lot of nutrients found in vegetables go to waste if not prepared with fat – and by fat I mean SF, because only saturated fatty acids have the ability to resist heat and thus not oxidize. Moreover, energy provided by fats is long-lasting and does not result in an energy crash. And SF is the most satiating macronutrient of all!

Could the Atkins diet help you keep diabetes at bay?

What might surprise many is that Diane’s diet was the opposite of what’s usually recommended for diabetics (which is to eat a diet high in carbohydrates and low in fat).

The calories the patient was no longer getting from fat were replaced by those from carbohydrates, ideally good carbohydrates such as wholegrains, vegetables, fruit and nuts, but also refined foods such as white bread and pasta.

But now, doctors are suggesting that this kind of diet could actually make Type 2 diabetes worse. And instead of cutting down on fat, thousands of patients like Diane are being advised to switch to a low-carbohydrate diet instead.

Experts say this ‘Atkins-style’ approach of eating fewer carbs could even soon be recommended to everyone as a way of lowering our risk of getting Type 2 diabetes in the first place.

MARGARINE’S THE BAD GUY AND BUTTER AND EGGS ARE THE GOOD GUYS.

BIG BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND MEDICAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE CAMPAIGNED DECEPTIVELY AGAINST CHOLESTEROL, MEAT, EGGS, BUTTER AND OTHER TRADITIONAL FOODS, LEADING TO HUGE PROFITS FROM SALES OF POTENTIALLY MORE HARMFUL MARGARINE, REFINED FOODS AND TRANS-FATTY ACID PRODUCTS. SCIENTIFIC DATA CONTRADICTING THAT PUBLIC HEALTH POLICY WAS SUPPRESSED AND CENSORED FROM PUBLICATION FOR MANY YEARS. DR. ENIG AND SALLY FALLON NOW TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW THAT HAPPENED.

Dickileaks.

Our special black ops operator and master hacker Dick Duck has just sent in a report re. the PMs between Ka (mad dog) Mon and Dillinger today.

Dillinger

Ought you test your blood sugar levels? You are talking absolute bollocks.

You have just driven Candy from the forum due to your posts which you admit were aggressive (to 'teach her how it feels' apparently) and when I pick you up on this you want me banned?

Really, this is classic hypo confused/aggressive behaviour - have a look at your levels.

by Ka-Mon

You have no idea what you are talking about Dillinger, I did not ask for you to be banned so stop making up stories and playing the innocent child.

My levels are fine as is my BP but I'm not so sure about your mental state and your ability to read and understand written words.

You accuse me of something that is completely and utterly not true and now you have the cheek to play the innocent little child? LOL, you are absolutely just as I imagine you would be, nose up in the air "I'm right and everyone else is wrong" type, get a life mate and stop being so obnoxious. You are a joke!

by Dillinger

Ok,

Let's have a go at the reading and comprehension then shall we?

You said to Candy 1567- "My reply to you was intentional to see what you would feel like if someone was to insult you but the funny thing is that I did not insult you at all." Your whole exchange with her, which you acknowledge about was insulting to her meant that she decided to leave. How is insulting someone in this case anything other than aggressive?

Then you said this about me when I was complaining about your aggressive posts; "[I]find Dillingers baseless accusations against me to be deliberate, unnecessary and very insulting in an attempt to discredit me. And I'd like to know what you intend on doing about it?

Then you say that "I also expect something to be done about it even if it's only a warning instead of a complete ban. And I believe I have done that now twice, once by starting this thread and secondly by complaining about Dillinger and would really like to see something done about both."

So, you want something to be done; ideally a ban but you'd be happy to settle for a 'warning'.

Isn't language a joy?

It is people like you and only people like you who piss on open exchanges and the free expression of ideas on this forum. So, what is going on in this forum? Well, you and people like you are being given free reign to limit exclude and shut down the debate.

I don't think I'm right and everyone else is wrong; I just think you are wrong, which you most certainly are.

by Ka-Mon

Dillinger, I have just replied to you in the thread, go read it and take notice. I will not be subjected to your intimidation in PMs whatsoever and will no longer reply to your delirious rantings in PMs. Let's do it out in the open and let people decide who the aggressor is, that is if you are man enough to take up the challenge and provide proof of your laughable allegations against me.

So Dillinger, the time has come, put up or shut the hell up. Apologise and go on your merry way at annoying people which is what you are good at. But if you want to annoy me you'd better come up with plenty of proof, out in the open, if you dare.

Remeber, any further PMs from you will be published on the thread, got it!

by Dillinger

"Dillinger, I have just replied to you in the thread, go read it and take notice."

I cannot see this reply that you mention?

I think this type of petty argument is better served by pm as people repeatedly say that it distresses and upsets the general users of the forum who have nothing to do with the exchange. I have no other motive for sending you a pm and figure as adults we can take a more robust back and forth in this form.

I am genuinely perplexed as to what point, if any, you are making?

You have said you won't reply to this pm and I sincerely hope that is the case and that this can be the end of it.

by Ka-Mon

Coward!

I think I should publish this PM in the thread to show that you are not the man you want other to believe you are but a coward who would rather hide in the darkness of PMs so that people don't get a chance to judge your stupid and wild accusations.

I have no idea what happened to my reply, maybe a Mod deleted it for some reason, hence the reason why I am replying to you now going totally against what I said in my last PM. I have replied again to your wild and unfounded stupid accusations, let's see if you are man enough to rise to the challenge, which I doubt very much because people like you are only "brave" if you feel superior to others but if challenged you chicken out and go into hiding.

I won't hold my breath for a reply from you because you know that your accusations towards me are very, very stupid and you have absolutely no proof to back it up for the simple reason that there are no proof. You off all people should know to keep your gob shut unless you have absolute proof but it seems like you missed out on that part of your training.

___________

[I then posted on the forum about whether I could hide in my shed or not]

by Ka-Mon

You are a coward Dillinger, I have told you that in my last PM and I am repeating it again. From now on whenever you say something out of line and spread lies I and others will jump down on you from great heights. I promise you that you will not be given any chance to accuse anyone with such lies as you accuse me of.

COWARD, you did hide in the closet and played for time until the thread was locked......that is what typical COWARDLY chicken shits like you do when you are challenged but from now on there will be no place for you to hide, I promise!

Your intentions were to get me discredited and banned but instead you have discredited yourself and proven to everyone what a coward you are, no one will take you seriously from now on. No matter from which angle you look at it you've lost old man, you'll never be taken seriously again and will be laughed at by all except your equally stupid and lying friends.

Now go and cry on your masters shoulders and admit that you have failed your mission. Don't think Eddie (your master) will be very pleased with you, I may get banned but it'll definitely not be your doing, it's be mine and mine alone and only because I have had enough of stupid infantile idiots like you.

One consolation I do have though, at least I managed to get rid of one of your idiotic and foul mouthed vile friend Ray Davis before I get banned myself. And you from now on will suffer every time you step out of line and attempt to spread lies again.

You are a joke Dillinger and a crook just like your namesake, one that is to be laughed at very loudly and taken the piss out of.

From: Dillinger
To: Ka-Mon

I'm a bit worried about your mental state now Ka-mon. I thought you weren't going to PM me any more?

If I say something out of line, but am in a closet, how will you manage the jumping down from great heights? Especially, if the light is off? That could be a very tricky manoeuvre resulting in splintering and/or severe chaffing at least.

If you could compromise and agree that I can hide in my shed then this would make jumping down from great heights, onto my shed, somewhat easier wouldn't you say?

I raised similar issues prior to the thread being locked, but alas you were not available to help with these pressing matters, but if that makes me a COWARDLY CHICKEN then so be it.

If I'm a chicken by the way, doesn't that make Ray a fowl mouthed friend?

Latest lowcarb news. Ray awarded the Wallycorker prize !

In an unprecedented move, the trustees of the Wallycorker foundation have awarded the highly prestigious Wallycorker prize to Ray , this is the first time the award has been given to a forum member only banned once. Ray has worked tirelessly, to expose the trolls, spreaders of fear and ludicrous clique cronies.

Chairman of the board of trustees. Roger (keto warrior) Jenkins stated today “never was a man more deserved than Ray, a true lowcarb warrior in the finest tradition”

As can be seen on the flog, Ka (mad dog) Mon aided and abetted by Albert (aka Kenny boy and the clique) led a full scale campaign to get Ray banned. Lowcarb stalwart Dillinger also come under heavy attack, but survived on this occasion.

When told of the award, Ray was ecstatic and informed us he was not only honoured to accept, but would be making regular contributions on this blog as a full time member.

Things can only get better !

Ka Mon self destructs !

Inevitably, the forum reached the tragically hilarious
'One man getting into an argument with himself' stage

Flog them, bring back the cat!

Sir Monty Beantipper Q.C. To Head Up Public Inquiry Into Flog Riot.

A clearly shaken Prime Minister announced minutes ago that Beantipper was to handle the largest inquiry ever held on the Flog. “No stone will be left unturned in a rigorous search for trolls, anti lowcarb clique members, multiple account blaggards and general miscreants” the P.M. croaked before returning at high speed to Downing Street.

Fighting, Mahem and wilful destruction continues, on the flog ! Follow the riot in live time on this blog !

After a weekend of grief and thread locking, insults and mayhem, Kenny boy aka Albert continues to rally the rabble known as the clique. Ka-mon got the ball rolling with a new thread What’s going on with this forum. “So can the Mods/Admin please explain what's going on, are we now all allowed to insult each other at will without the fear of being banned or warned?”

Followed by the arch troll Kenny boy aka Albert (the sleeper) 14 minutes later. The stage was set ! The rest was as predictable and transparent as the clique.

“Yes kamon. I agree. I have been here and lurked here for a long time, almost since the forum began. There definitely seems to be a very soft approach nowadays. Seems many things that were previously dealt with swiftly get left alone. I would imagine the new mods have a lot to learn but surely there must be somebody with experience on here? This same person you refer to has told people on that same blog and in thet topic that I'm Ken for some reason.?”

Followed by a statement from admin that included this paragraph.

“It's plain and simple for us - we want a free, open platform - and the forum has never been so free-flowing with so many new members joining daily for a long time. As always, if any members take exception to any posts/threads they can always contact mods/admin for them to be dealt with.”

That’s the real problem !!! The clique are loosing out big time now that Kenny boy cannot delete or ban everyone that does not follow the bullshit diet the lowcarb antis have pushed for so long. Please note how Albert’s diet i.e. lowcarb low fat is a carbon copy of old Kenny boys diet of impossibility. Freedom of speech has returned to the flog ! and the clique are mortified.

To be continued !

Latest from Mr. Nice Guy Ka Mon

"Yes I do know how hard it is to moderate a large forum such as this but when a complaint has been made against an insulting member I also expect something to be done about it even if it's only a warning instead of a complete ban. And I believe I have done that now twice, once by starting this thread and secondly by complaining about Dillinger and would really like to see something done about both."

Give it up lad ! not everyone is as thick as you !

Ka Mon goes on and on and on............................

"Some of you still don't get it, do you?"

I have replied to Dillinger's wild and unfounded accusations about me twice asking him to either supply proof or apologise but both postings have been deleted or mysteriously disappeared into thin air.

"Am I now not allowed to defend myself either and Dillinger is allowed to post wild accusations and insults at will without any fear of his posts being deleted or at least amended?

"Is this how it's going to be in this forum from now on, one sided? If that's the case then maybe us "high-carbers" should be asked to leave and let the low-carbers run wild in the forum like it was a couple of years ago!"

Nob (King toady) head aka Nigel

"I find it a great shame that those with a hidden agenda try their utmost to disrupt and insult members on this great forum, but what I find unbelievable is that they want to be part of a forum that they so obviously despise.......why would that be you must ask?"

From the cherub.

"I think Admin's first post helps people to understand. The words inconsiderate, stupid. deranged and selfish, (Admin's words), applied to the poster that started all this off are very apt and really should bring it home to members why this poster causes offence. He seems to have extensive problems."

Ka (mad dog) Mon started the thread. Woman bites dog ?

Enjoy Saturated Fats, They’re Good for You!

"When I was the director of the heart institute at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle in the 1990s I looked into establishing a Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease at Swedish. The Ornish Program limits fat intake to less than 10 percent of calories in the diet, with, as one study shows, only 1 percent saturated fat. I had a cardiologist at Swedish accompany me to New York to visit the leading Dean Ornish Program there. We came back and recommended that Swedish establish one in Seattle.

I was wrong. Several years later, after leaving Swedish and rejoining the faculty the University of Washington, I came upon an article by Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon titled “The Oiling of America” that was published in the magazine Nexus in 1999. It stimulated me to look more carefully into this subject."

"Evidence against fat wilts upon close scrutiny. In his Six Country Study, Ancel Keys ignored data available from 16 other countries that did not fall in line with his desired graph. If he had chosen these six other countries [on the left side], or even more strikingly, these six countries [on the bottom right] he could have shown that increasing the percent of calories from fat in the diet reduces the number of deaths from coronary heart disease."

"Then, in 1992, in the Archives of Internal Medicine, the third director of the study, Dr. William Castelli, reported: “In Framingham, Mass., the more saturated fat one ate, the more cholesterol one ate, the more calories one ate, the lower the person’s serum cholesterol” [emphasis in original]… We found that the people who ate the most cholesterol, ate the most saturated fat, ate the most calories, weighed the least, and were the most physically active.” (Arch Int Med 1992;152:1271-2)

Most doctors have not heard about these findings because medical organizations, notably the American Heart Association, government agencies, and the pharmaceutical industry have ignored them. After all, prescribing statin drugs to lower cholesterol is a $25 billion/year industry."

A long read but well worth reading and keeping !

Roger "keto-warrior" Jenkins, MBE

Invented "pro-active" low-carbing in 1972 after nearly choking to death on a boiled potato. Awarded MBE in 1994, for services to semicolon.

Ketogenesis, Chapter 16, Verse 9:"Rejoice, for the tent of low-carb is with mankind, and normoglycemia resides with them. Anyone conquering carbohydrate will inherit these things. Outside are the carb-ridden dogs and those who are disgusting in their starchy filth, and all those who are liking and carrying on a carb-fuelled lie."

Sir Monty Beantipper

Tonight’s lowcarb grub.

Chicken, cauliflower cheese and purple sprouting broccoli.

Cut a small cauliflower into florets. Boil until soft. Drain off water and place in a baking dish. Put a cup of double cream in a non stick saucepan and heat (do not allow to boil) add a handful of grated cheddar cheese and stir until melted. Pour the mix over the cauliflower. Make a little tray with kitchen foil. Get a chicken breast and cover with some sun dried tomatoes in olive oil, and chopped olives. Bake the chicken and cauliflower cheese at 200c for twenty-five minutes. The broccoli takes around 10 minutes in boiling water. Around ten-twelve carbs,  Enjoy !

An Apology to Albert.

This blog owes Albert a profuse and heartfelt apology. Earlier today we stated Albert was a reincarnation of the despotic and disgraced ex forum monitor Ken. We now realise the anguish and trauma this caused. Please accept our most sincere apology. No, really.

“I lo-carb and I'm successful, I don't eat loads of any fat, have about 50g carbs per day, avoid sat fat. It works for me and it obviously works for others on this forum.

Did you really say such bad things about members and mods here on another blog? That's terrible Ray, you should apologise profusely here for that. I have been given a link to another blog where I am now accused of being Ken! What sad people they must all be, cowardly too if that's the best they can come up with!”

This apology has been produced in collaboration with our communication strategists Bullshite, Whitewash and Koverupp of New York.

Clique Generalissimo returns !

The anti lowcarb, anti dietary fat clique are jubilant at the return of super troll Kenny boy. Albert has denied being Ken, but he regards being called Ken on the flog as a compliment ! Ask yourself, if I called you Ken would you regard it as complimentary ? you see my point.

In no time at all the clique leapt on the thread with the usual misinformation. Albert was quick to state.
“Excellent post as usual phoenix, you can always be relied on to be factual and objective.” Albert gushed.

Not for the first time phoenix was rather slippery, why, because she left out some highly relevant information !

"Moreover, a 2-year study of weight loss diets, using either low-fat, Mediterranean, or low-carbohydrate strategies, reported a significant regression of carotid atherosclerosis, irrespective of the dietary intervention. On the other hand, the Women's Health Initiative Dietary Modification Trial, the largest long-term randomized, controlled trial of a dietary intervention conducted to date, including 48 835 postmenopausal women aged 50 to 79 years who were followed over a mean of 8.1 years, showed that a dietary intervention that reduced total fat intake and increased intakes of vegetables, fruits, and grains did not significantly reduce the risk of CHD, stroke, or CVD, and achieved only modest effects on CVD risk factors.”

Would Albert have thanked her so grovelling, if she had included the information contained in the study the slippery one omitted in her post ?

Interesting times ahead eh.

A Jolly Roger

Monty first began to dabble in the black art of low-carb during his brave and splendid navy days, which were chiefly spent stalking the Norfolk coastline aboard HMS Bumrush. Having witnessed widespread deviant depravities amid the seamen, and deeply concerned about his own growing love of amateur dramatics, Monty became suspicious about the effects that the high-carb navy rations were having on the crew.

The final straw came when a late night session of "poop deck conga" turned particularly nasty, compelling Monty to seek refuge in carbohydrate restriction. With his inclination towards voting Liberal Democrat swiftly cured by ketosis, Monty promptly left the navy and was eventually washed up on the beach at Lowestoft. From that day forward, Monty's voting habits were staunchly Conservative. The kinky devil.

A new low fat star on the forum of flog.

Stand by for more from this guy.

Heart Surgeon Admits Huge Mistake !

By Dwight Lundell, MD

Part 1 of a 2-part article (see part 2 in link below)

We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong.  So, here it is I freely admit to being wrong.  As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.

I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labeled "opinion makers."  Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease.  Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.

It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible.  The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes.

Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended.  It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated -- it is quite simply your body's natural defense to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus.  The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders.

However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process, a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body?  Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels.  This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that. The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet that has been recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

See part 2 in link below !

And the Nobhead of the month award goes to.................er Noblehead !

Noblehead (3455 posts) on the forum of flog today.

"Hi Dillinger, in what way are carbs and fruit bad for diabetics......particularly type 1's ?"

mattyT1 (2 posts) on the forum of flog answers.

"Hi Nigel Carbs turn straight to glucose so obviously the more Carbs you eat the more glucose in your blood which obviously sends your BG level soaring , so less Carbs=less glucose= lower BG levels."

I am beginning to see why the lowcarb antis have argued with us all these years. I am beginning to realise how little they know about diabetes control. Well done matty for putting Nigel straight.

Supplements

We're often told to listen to our dietician or other HCP. This is good advice as it is the only accurate way to determine if the voice is coming from the mouth or anus.

It amuses, but at the same time saddens me to see the opinions spouted with very little thought by doctors (although not all doctors), "Nutritionists" and dieticians. One in particular concerns supplements.

A recent post on D.co.uk is a case in point:

"I am not a big supplement fan but Dr Jay needs to take them as overall his diet is deficient."
Says Ally5555.

How the hell does she know his diet is any more deficient than anybody else's?

There are known deficiencies of minerals and trace elements in foodstuff and therefore deficiencies in diets.

This is one reason not to follow the popular mantra "Eat only fresh local produce". The fact is, you don't know if the produce in your area is short of something important. Globalisation has meant that we have a range of produce produced in a variety of different soils throughout the world which ensures we have a better chance of avoiding missing out.

http://www.wellness-vitality.com/mineral-article.html

Just one example, Cretinism, caused by an iodine deficiency, has largely died out in the UK. This is in spite of serious deficiencies in some areas. It would possibly have been rampant in certain areas where it not for the widely sourced diet and iodised salt. Sometimes costly iodine enriched soil fertilisers are utilised, but do you know that is the case with a particular product?

http://www.derby.ac.uk/news/study-proves-iodine-levels-are-hard-to-swallow

There have been many reports of Selenium being in short supply in many areas and the same goes for other vital nutrients. The plain fact is, we don't know what we're eating and it's quite likely we'll never find out.

By the way, there have been reports of antibiotics being found in "organic" products, it apparently comes from the manure from livestock routinely fed antibiotics.

Even eating food sourced from different areas of the world cannot be guaranteed to be nutritionally complete. So anyone with any sense can see it is best to play safe and take a supplement containing as many nutrients as possible.

This only discussing what might be missing. What about pollutants that shouldn't be there? Consuming foods from multiple sources helps avoid a possible build up of nasties that may be concentrated in a particular area.
So, variety is the key, but taking a supplement is just common-sense insurance.

Any HCP who glibly says just eat a balanced diet is talking out of body parts situated a lot lower down than the face!

Christine Cashin registered dietition, aka Ally 5555 avoids the big issue as always !

"Jay out of interest how much fat do you actually consume a day. I can calculate it for you - have an analysis package on my laptop so it is quick"

Lots of people reply, but as we have seen so many times, no comment or answer  from the healthcare pro.

She disappears into oblivion, as always, to resurface at a later date ! She is of  zero use to anyone. What's her game, drumming up a bit of business ?

What an asset to the diabetic community the woman is,.....er not !

Tonight’s lowcarb grub.

King prawns cooked in butter, garlic and seasoning. Swede boiled and mashed with lots of butter. Purple sprouting broccoli with a knob of butter. Delicious and very low carb.

Medical disclaimer ! If you do not want to hold non diabetic BG numbers, reduced total cholesterol, reduced or no meds, and trigs of a teenager, keep well away from this sort of meal. Carbo and his high carb, high med’s and Orlistat addiction would not approve, nor would the NHS and DUK. Jeez, even the photography is slagged into the ground on his septic tank of a blog!

But hey, each to their own eh.

Comment from  Carbo member tonight.

"omg - have you seen eddie's dinner tonight - it looks like slop!
He cannot be a photographer surely!"

Lets not forget, Carbo carries more excess weight than the total weight of my mate Graham !
