I believe that old phrase was describing economies. If the US was having a hard time so did we. Much of what we get here, you Americans had first. Huge drug addiction problems, gang violence and mass obesity, to name just a few exports. Thanks guys ! OK I’m winding you up, and I know it works both ways. I didn’t want this post to sound like too big a grovel to Americans. We also get a huge amount of good stuff. Someone once said “the most valuable commodity in the world is information” I can’t argue with that. As regular readers here know, so much of what we link to here is to US studies and trials. So many of our gurus are Americans.
Many of the well controlled diabetics I know believe Dr. Richard Bernstein is the main man. I have spoke to diabetes educators here and they have never heard of him. Bernstein was the first diabetic in the world to home test BG numbers (He wasn’t a Doctor, he was an Engineer at the time). He is credited with basal and bolus dosing for insulin users, a technique that he invented in 1972. Hundred of thousands, maybe millions of diabetics around the world, have lived a longer and happier life because of Bernstein. Guys like Gary Taubes have opened our eyes to the corruption of Politicians, Big Pharma and multi-national food companies. The list of Americans we follow is long, so why the grovel you may be thinking.
This blog gets page views from almost every country in the world. The stats that we get are fairly crude, but they tell us over the last week, the US has been the number one country reading our blog. So, it’s a thank you from our team for taking the time to read our humble blog. I know much of the info we put up has come from the USA, I know at times you must think we are running a lunatic asylum, we certainly do. But hey, if one diabetic, maybe once a month, is helped by our blog, and learns to control their weight or diabetes safely, and most importantly tells others how they achieved it, that will do us.
Good luck and health to you and yours.

I'm from America and I always found it troubling that all over the world people eagerly pick up our bad habits. You find Coca-cola in very remote places for instance. Why aren't people smarter than that?
Whatever the country, whatever the colour of the people, creed or race, we are generally positive, we trust our fellow human beings. That is a good thing, but we are learning our leaders are often very damaged goods. Greed and corruption is all around us, but the average man and woman has not been tainted and can be trusted. The average man and woman will win in the end, it just takes time.

:-D being an American is tricky these days -- so much to be proud of, and so much that's shameful....
Hey Tess
Don’t get down on yourself, Americans have been nett contributors, BIG TIME !
