Parsley easy and cheap to grow from seed

Dear fellow blogger as I post this today (12 May), along with many of you I am still having problems with leaving comments on so many blogs. Many of you have kindly suggested ways in which this situation may be fixed but alas not for me (and I suspect many others), it is very frustrating, and I hope that blogger will sort it out soon, refer to this post here

In the meantime I hope you may enjoy todays post about parsley ...

Growing your own produce is increasingly popular these days. If you're keen to give it a go but are a bit apprehensive about your gardening skills, herbs are a good way to get started and they're instantly rewarding. You can buy a small pot at the nursery, plant it and harvest (just a little bit) immediately. And if that's not enough to convince you, the other big pluses of herbs are that they'll grow just about anywhere and thrive with hot weather and sunshine.

You don't need a purpose-built herb garden. You can plant your herbs in a pot, trough or window-box, or pop some in among other plants in the garden.

Growing parsley
One of the best herbs to begin with is parsley. You can buy it in punnets or small pots, but it's also extremely easy (and cheap) to grow from seed.

If you have a reasonable soil that holds moisture, just make a shallow furrow in damp soil, and sprinkle in some seeds. Alternatively, fill a punnet with potting mix and sow a few parsley seeds, then transplant when the seedlings are large enough to handle.

Parsley shoots in three to four weeks, so you won't need to wait long to see results. Hand-weed and watch out for hungry slugs or snails. Also, keep the soil moist by watering gently with a watering can with a large rose, or use a gentle setting on the hose nozzle so as not to disturb the new seedlings.

Although parsley is a herb, it can also be used decoratively in the garden. It makes an attractive border plant, perfect for edging a sunny part of the ornamental garden or even the vegie patch.
When well-grown, parsley lasts for many months.

Parsley is a herb with benefits
Parsley is rich in antioxidants and nutrients like vitamins A, K, and C, parsley may improve blood sugar and support heart, kidney, and bone health. What's more, this herb can easily be added to many tasty dishes. Parsley stays fresh for up to two weeks, whereas dried parsley may last up to a year. Adding parsley to your diet can boost your health while adding flavour to your favourite recipes.

I love parsley, Jan. Sorry about the comment problem. I found for me, I have to allow all cookies on to be able to leave comments. Then I also found that I can only leave 25 comments on various blogs before Blogger tells me that I have to wait 24 hours until commenting again. But that was awhile ago, they may have corrected the second one.

Yes, we did grow our own parsley when we had a yard and garden and it was prolific as I recall. Now, we sometimes buy fresh in the supermarket, but never seem to be able to use it all. The chicken recipe is one I may try in the future, thanks.

I grow basil, cilantro, and dill from seed, but I can't seem to find any parsley seeds that grow for me. I like how you shared the benefits, too.

Yes--I grow parsley. Much cheaper than buying it, and it's fresh when you've grown it yourself.

Thanks for the reminder on this, Jan. We love parsley and never think to grow it. I'm off to the market today and may pick up some seeds along with my potting soil!

I had never even thought of growing parsley...sounds easy to do. I didn't know it was so healthy for us, either.

I love growing herbs, including parsley. My plant has been going all year, and I have a bunch of it drying in the kitchen. All the health benefits in such a simple plant!

I was just now making a comment...and I wondered about your making comments and having troubles.

Blogger has the new window...and it says 'Enter comment' and then has a line. At first I was trying to enter my comment below the line. But I found I had to start my comment on the line where it says 'Enter Comment.'....I bet this is not the problem you are having, but thought I would put it down here anyway. Just in case.

My current issue with Blogger is sometimes it spins and spins before it gives me the window where I can upload a photo.

I have a black thumb (as opposed to a green one), but I wonder if I would have luck with herbs. I would also need to see if deer eat them. (The only things I seem to grow successfully are Daffodils and Bleeding Hearts, but only because the deer don't like to eat those.)
