Pomegranate Seeds - packed with nutritional power !

Have you ever wondered; What do I do with pomegranate seeds? Well here are four recipe suggestions that may help!

Pomegranate Seeds
Besides being packed with nutritional power (high in vitamins C, B, fibre and minerals), pomegranate seeds are just downright beautiful. Like nature’s edible rubies, pomegranate seeds add sweet-tart flavour and gorgeous colour to many dishes.

Jewel-like pomegranate seeds are extremely versatile and add a burst of sweetness to everything they're added to. Choose pomegranates with smooth, shiny skin which are heavy for their size – they'll be juicier. To remove the seeds, cut in half and, using a wooden spoon, bash the back of the pomegranate over a bowl. Pomegranate seeds can be added as a bright finishing touch to all sorts of salads, tagines and side dishes but can also star on their own.

I had arils in chicken salad and loved it. So, I bought a container of arils and put them in my own chicken salad. It was like eating tiny chunks of rocks. Why?

they are sold in supermarkets here in pots and i add them to salad. I remember eating them as a child, we were given a pin to pick each little seed out, took a long time (probably why my mother did it).

I love pomegranates but have never added the seeds to a recipe, I just eat them straight from the fruit. I remember my grandma used to sit me down with a pomegranate and a pin with which to pick the seeds out of the fruit with, it used to keep me occupied for hours, I'm sure that's why she did it.

Hello there Practical Parsimony,
Sorry to read that the container of arils you bought were too hard.
I'm no expert, but it sounds to me that the arils/seeds dried out too much and when this happens they are not so juicy ...

There is an article you may be interested in reading called,
"How to Eat Pomegranate Seeds (Arils): Benefits, Nutrition Facts & Storage"
find it here:-

My parents always got us a pomegranate around November coinciding with our Thanksgiving holiday. It was always a treat even if a bit messy to eat.

I really like pomegranates, so faffy though getting the seeds out. As a child we only had them at Christmas, half a pomegranate and a pin, happy days! x
