Now Isn't That Typical?

I wonder how many times that may have been said? Eddie and I were certainly saying it this morning, as we woke up and couldn't hear the raindrops pattering on the windowpane!  Back from a very nice few days away, but there's no doubt about it the weather could have been better.

It all started well, although no blue skies it was dry and as we drove along the views were not too bad ... a little like this image below.

We spent time with family and friends and were fortunate on the morning we decided to go to Gunwharf Quays, the weather was quite pleasant. The waterfront overlooks Gunwharf Quays Marina which can accommodate all types of craft including luxury yachts up to 80 metres and has often played host to national and international sailing events. We sat looking at a view very similar to this ...

Gunwharf Quays is an outlet retail destination with 90 outlet stores and 30 restaurants, bars and cafés located in Portsmouth, UK. It is a great place to visit. You can sit and relax and watch the world go by, or do some shopping, or visit the Portsmouth Dockyards, Spinnaker Tower, HMS Victory, The Royal Marines Museum and a whole host of other great places, which are nearby. We did a little shopping and then sat and enjoyed lunch. My choice was a delicious rocket salad with mozzarella cheese and some wonderful sweet tasting tomatoes. The glass of wine to accompany it was also very pleasant ...

We could see Spinnaker Tower close by.
It has a glass-floored platform, and overlooks Portsmouth harbour.

Travelling on a little further we went through part of the New Forest and saw scenes like this ...

We also had time to visit Mudeford Quay, which is a place we go to quite often, The last time we went the view was like this ...

But not this time ... the clouds were not at all blue and we walked along in the rain. However, it did not dampen spirits, and there were still a lot of people around. Mudeford is a great place for crabbing and there is also a lovely fish stall on the quay ... and we do like some nice locally caught fish!

We had hoped on our last day to have been able to get a sight of these, pictured below. The stunning Red Arrows Display team. They were due to fly in the Bournemouth Air Show but alas were not able to due to the bad weather and very poor visibility. A shame for the many folk who had gone along in hope. We have seen then before and they certainly are a majestic sight.

A meal we did enjoy was similar to this pictured below

Griddled sea bass with stuffed courgettes, tomatoes, olives and basil.

So a nice few days away but the weather could have been a little better, lets hope it will be next time

All the best Jan

It sounds like you had a lovely time. It's a shame when the weather isn't at its best but there's always something to take our minds off that when we're away from home, especially when in such lovely surroundings. Glad you had a good time.

Denise - it was indeed very nice to get away, and the food was delicious, lots of good dishes to choose from.

Amy - yes despite the weather we had a very nice few days, glad you liked the pictures.

Martha - we had a great time, it's always lovely to see the New Forest Ponies roamimg around. Of course you need to take extra care when driving because they have been known to cross the road when you least expect it.

Jo - we did have a lovely time, and I think when you are away you just get on and have a good time, especially as we also saw family and friends.

Wendy - it is always nice to have a short break away ... no matter what the weather is like.

Carla - glad to know you liked the pictures, we did enjoy our few days break.

Many thanks to you ALL for taking time to comment, it is appreciated.

Hope you have a lovely weekend

All the best Jan

It's so nice to get away....also nice to be home. I don't mind a day or two of bad weather when I'm away, it forces a rest day. Pretty images, and a baby horse, what a treat!!

Sorry you didn't have better weather, in August you don't expect it to rain so much! My daughter went to Uni at Portsmouth so Gunwarf Quay is very familiar. What a shame you didn't catch the red arrows they were meant to be at Weymouth carnival too on Wednesday but were unable to attend due to the weather. Funnily enough we saw them fly overhead this afternoon and assumed they were off to Bournemouth Air show. Sarah x

Hi Sarah - I think this time of year the Red Arrows (and others) work their way around the coast to take part in the many air shows. They are indeed a wonderful sight but I think this summer quite a few of their flights may have been called off due to bad weather.
Hope fully the folks at Bournemouth saw them this afternoon!

Many thanks for your comment - wishing you a great week ahead.

All the best Jan

Thanks for stopping by, glad you liked the photos of the ducks, they were a handsome pair.
The weather was a bit rubbish last week down here in the South wasn't it but I'm it's good to see you still managed to get out and about and enjoy your time with family and friends.

Hello Lisa, and a warm welcome to the low carb diabetic blog. I couldn't resist those ducks on your blog - they were lovely pictures.

We did enjoy our few days away, but it hasn't been a good summer weather wise. Still September will soon be here so perhaps we will enjoy some late summer / early Autumn sunshine ?

Thanks again for your comment, have a lovely week.

All the best Jan
