DCUK the forum of flog never stops posting the abysmal NICE blood glucose recommendations !

Any well controlled diabetic knows the higher blood glucose numbers below are not where you want to be. For many those sort of numbers will almost certainly lead to diabetic complications. The forum mod posting this information below at the flog today knows this. She has said for years she has held HbA1c in the fours and fives. That is a good achievement and the sort of number well controlled diabetics get. It is beyond my understanding why the abysmal NICE recommendations are rolled out at the flog on a regular basis, especially by forum mods, anything but nice I reckon. Eddie

These are the NICE recommendations.

Blood glucose ranges for type 2 diabetes

  • Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/l
  • 2 hours after meals: under 8.5 mmol/l
Blood glucose ranges for type 1 diabetes (adults)
  • Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/l
  • 2 hours after meals: under 9 mmol/l
Blood glucose ranges for type 1 diabetes (children)
  • Before meals: 4 to 8 mmol/l
  • 2 hours after meals: under 10 mmol/l
However, those that are able to, may wish to keep blood sugar levels below the NICE after meal targets.

Isn't that better to do?
Isn't it also better to achieve as close to blood sugar numbers as that of a non diabetic at ALL times?

Essential if you want the best chance of avoiding diabetic complications.

Agree 100%. The high NICE numbers are up to twice the BG of a non diabetic.
