Public Health Collaboration UK

The Basics

What?

The Public Health Collaboration will be a charity focused on supporting research and investigating pressing public health issues concerning the UK.  On a quarterly basis we will publicly publish reports on these issues alongside coordinated campaigns for change.

Why?

In the UK 25% of adults are obese, the highest prevalence in Europe, and type 2 diabetes has risen by 65% in the past 10 years with no sign of slowing down, both cost the NHS £16 billion a year. The PHC will illuminate the solutions to turn it all around.
How?

Through INDIEGOGO we need to initially raise £5,000 to help set us up as a charity, fund our team to write our first report to be published in April, as well as support our ambitious research and campaign plans to empower the public and medical community.

The group of doctors include deputy chair of the British Medical Association Dr. Kailash Chand OBE, dietitian Dr. Trudi Deakin, cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra, psychiatrist Dr. Tamsin Lewis, general practitioner Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, clinical psychologist Dr. Jen Unwin, diabetologist Dr. David Cavan, general practitioner Dr. Katharine Morrison, general practitioner Dr. David Unwin, general practitioner Dr. Joanne McCormack, general practitioner Dr. Ian Lake and general practitioner Dr. Ayan Panja.

It would appear a dietitian is not overly impressed with the above

As many of  these experts are GPs working in busy surgeries I wonder what they do with their time then ?

I am wondering the same thing, if we all got healthy and took care of ourselves what would the Dr's and pharmaceutical companies do...

I would hope they'd be happy for us but more likely not. I think they should be happy, it would free up there time to work on actual cures for illnesses that have none. ..

You have not looked at it have you - it is a charity to pay Sam Feltham's salary - what a waste of money

Of course I've looked at it, Sam can't work for nothing now can he, do you think DUK and the like don't pay their admin staff ?. Don't forget all the HCP's are providing their input for free.

So he is going to live on 5K - something does not add up . I guess the experts will be donating part of their very high salaries.

This is going to be fun to watch.

One things for sure their salaries won't be boosted by Big Pharma or the Junk food corporations

This is going to be fun to watch.

Agreed the thought of BDA dietitians foaming at the mouth should make for compelling viewing !

I should think Public Health England is terrified about this new group. It will be a laugh with that bumbling fool at the helm. There is still a question ? How are they going to fund it - this should be fun to watch.

You seem so annoyed a group of medical professionals, have formed a group to try and improve the lamentable situation regarding obesity and peoples health. Why is that? do you have a vested interest in the nation staying sick?

Perhaps you are involved in the promotion of the diet that has proved to be a compete disaster, or maybe involved with the BDA or the like.

Whatever, clearly you are upset. Tell me, why are the most negative of people almost always anons, what have you got to hide?

This looks like an eminently sensible group of knowledgeable folks. No wonder dieticians have their (extra large) knickers in a twist.

Haha! I doubt PHE will even know about the new group far to busy with their noses in the trough enjoying their expense accounts

PHE a bureaucratic bunch of bumbling ineffective freeloaders costing the tax payer 2.6bn and for what, is there any reduction in the growing obesity and diabetes epidemic ? thought not.

Big difference donations to the PHC are entirely voluntary whereas like it or not if your a taxpayer you are helping fund the PHE.

I've yet to look into the conflicts of interest among'st the Public Health England employees, but it is common knowledge that a COI was seen in the case of e-cigs
