It has often been said, that one of the ways to tell a woman’s age is by looking at her hands. (Does this go for men too?). These multi-functional extremities are often neglected, and on the basis that they are almost permanently on show, is this a missed opportunity?
Growing up my dear Mum introduced me to hand cream sometime in my teens and from that day onward hand cream has always been part of my daily routine.

There are a few tips that can help hands hide those signs of aging and using a good hand cream daily can help. There are also some available that can help reduce age spots. It is also a good idea to put suntan cream on the backs of our hands, something that is often overlooked when applying it to our bodies whilst on holiday, or just sitting in the garden soaking up some of the suns rays.
It is always a good idea to wear washing up gloves when doing the dishes, as our hands in hot soapy water can cause our skin to dry. If you want to pamper your hands and keep your nails looking good a manicure is a great idea, even if you have short nails, this can make a difference.

...I have always worked with my hands and rarely wore gloves and my show it!
I do use hand cream. I should wear gloves. I don't. I cannot 'feel' what I am doing with them on, and both in the sink and in the garden that makes a difference. As a result my hands are often nicked and scratched and essentially looking the worse for wear.
No, I don't use hand cream. Or very rarely. BUT, a tip for you. In the winter, or anytime your hands get real dry, try putting a lot of handlotion or cream on your hands. Till it is almost too much. Then put your hands in rubber gloves and hand wash dishes in water as hot as you can stand it. It works miracles. I guess you could just hold put your hands in rubber gloves and hold them in warm water a few minutes.
My husband did a lot of maintenance work, and his fingers would get dry and crack sort of around his fingernails. He learned to take blistex or chapstick and rub some on those spots. It really helps. ( and I suppose any kind of lip balm would help but these are what he used.)
I do try to wear gloves when pulling weeds...
I don't use gloves as often as I should, I try to remember in the garden but sometimes I forget and don't go back to get them.
I do use hand cream every night when I go to bed, but I could be doing more
I never remember to wear gloves for washing up even though they're so conveniently available but I always wear gardening gloves. That drink looks so delicious! I'm going to have to try it.
Buenos consejos, siempre hay que cuidar las manos. Te mando un beso.
I am a hand cream girl, but I also end up with dirty hands often. I love a good pedicure, but because my hands get dirty, manicures aren't really for me. But my hands do look a bit old. I guess I should be more careful...hope your week is going well. hugs-Erika
Been without electricity since about 6:30 pm yesterday. Never so glad to get my AC and internet back.
I have also heard that is how tp tell a woman's age. I don't always wear gloves when I garden, but I wear disposable gloves (and a mask) when I go anywhere. I give myself a manicure because my nails are long and I never wear polish. This is a great article Jan and I enjoyed it.
Good tips but a bit late for my old hands. I have always worn gloves in the garden but not for washing up but that is mostly done by the dishwasher. I put cream on after a shower. My dad had lovely hands and people often comment on my nice hands which I must have inherited from him.
Where have I been?!! I had never heard of Pimm's. Maybe there is another liqueur I can use.
I never had professional manicure
Coffee is on and stay safe
I rarely use hand cream. I have only gotten manicures for the three years I had tips. Other than that, never. I never use gloves when washing dishes or gardening. I have gotten lucky as my hands don't seem to have aged much. Tomorrow they may just fall into shambles and then I will be sorry I did not do more for them.
My husband does the washing up, most things go into the dishwasher but before that I used gloves always. Don't garden, never did don't care for it where as many people love it for many reasons. If necessary we have a gardener.
Always had to keep the nails short when working with no nail polish. Do like nice nails if possible so sometimes have them done at a salon.
Hand cream, use it always and I have old hands because I'm old but had old hands when young.
Like the pimms, used to drink that many years ago when we went out, haven't had it for a long time.
Hummm que aspecto mais delicioso.
Um abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

Great tips Jan and thank you for the recipe for this very refreshing cocktail. All the best!
Great tips and the drink looks refreshing.
Take care, have a happy day!
I often forget to get hand cream. And wearing gloves for washing up, gardening, car washing, etc. is a good idea. Thank you for reminding :-)
Great post, Jan!
My mint is really growing in the garden... wonderful :-)) These will be nice summer drinks... yes, now with fresh strawberries from the field.
Snshine greetings to you.
For the benefi. Viola
I have never had a burning desire to camouflage the fact that my hands are aging along with the rest of my body. This desire for the appearance of eternal youth has never gripped me. I do the dishes in our house and I never wear gloves.
Ive always been a hard worker so my arms and hands take a beating, scars, dry skin, etc...I like the idea of the bling, and the drink is Awesome looking!!
Um, lovely drink.
When I next (someday, please) get to England again, I need to try a Pimm's. It looks refreshing! One day I looked at my hands and said "They look old." I don't know when it happened -- but the veins seem bigger! A good hand salve is really a help!
I take note of everything Jan, my hands by age begin to age, actually like me, but very interesting your information.
Best regards.
I need and use handcream. Refreshing drink there
I don't wear gloves but do use lotion. I've heard it said women worry about their complexions but give away their age as soon as they raise a hand up to their face.
Someday, if I ever get back to England, I will have a Pimm's. They sound very refreshing! Happy week!
I don't take care of my hands as well as I should. I do wear gloves always when gardening or cleaning bathrooms (different pairs), but not when washing dishes.
I can't quite decide if I'd like this or not with just the ingredients. It sounds like it might be very light and refreshing, but I also detest cucumber. Maybe I'll make it for my wife and try a sip. haha
I use hand cream every time I put my hands in water. I like Bond hand cream.
Don't use gloves for washing up but do wear gardening gloves.
I have NEVER had a professional manicure but do put polish on my nails once in a while.
Good advice. That beverage looks so pretty and refreshing
I always try to protect my hand and nails! As I paint them a lot! Hand cream yes. Never tried Pimms and don't drink anyway!
Lots of lotion and water. I had a nurse tell me keeping hydrated with help skin look less dry.
Cuidar das mãos é bom! Adorei esse copo colorido.Parece boa essa mistura! beijos, chica
I've never used gloves while washing dishes.
Hand cream is basic in Finland, where the climate is so dry. Especially in winter.
Eddie, the answers to your questions -
Do you use hand cream? NO
Do you like manicures? NO
Do you wear gloves for washing up and gardening? NO
Best regards. Phil.
This post has me looking at my hands which are in a sorry state so I'll be taking your advice from now on.xxx
I use Curel unscented lotion and it seems to help keep my skin good. I have a lot of tan on my hands and arms from being outside. Jewelry is always in style...I like to wear turquoise jewelry. It's my fav! Thanks for a fun post!
Never heard of Pimms!! I abuse my hands terribly..Rarely wear gloves..do a lot of gsrdening and dirt is like sandpaper to ones hands...Poor things..
i have never had a manicure . i always worked so much outside in the yard i didn't even want long nails. one time I put fake nails on and hated it. my hand started looking older than my age in my 50's. i was a 60's teen who thought she didn't need sunscreen and could sit for hours out in the sun. That plus my Irish heritage gave made my skin look really aged. Now where I'm at today I wish I could wear gloves to hike them, lolol
But I still don't and never did want a manicure.
fun post though. That cocktail looks great and I have so much bling - i did like that when i was young...now i can pass it all over to my grandgirls some day.
The Pimms s9unds perfect for a summer drink ~ Xo

Uso crema para las manos, pero debería usarla más. No me pongo guantes, algunas veces si en el jardín, nunca los encuentro, están perdidos en los troncos de los árboles jaja. Muchos besos.
