Could you start your day more healthily ?

Is your alarm set to the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. It’s impossible not to smile when this song plays. This, combined with these seven suggestions could set the tone for a productive, happy and healthy day. Read on and see what you think ...

1. Drink A Glass Of Water As Soon As You Wake Up

This helps re-hydrate your body, revs up your digestive system, and gets things flowing. You may notice positive changes like clearer skin and better digestion.

2. Do Not Check Your Email Or Phone For At Least An Hour

Do you sleep with your phone next to you and grab for it first thing when you wake? This is not a good habit. If you choose to resist the temptation to check your email, Facebook etc. for at least an hour after waking up, you'll find that your mind is more clear, focused and happy.

3. Think Of One Thing For Which You Have Gratitude

This sets the stage for positivity throughout the day. If you come up with three or five things, even better.

4. Step Outside And Take A Deep Breath

Fill your lungs with fresh air. Even if it’s cold outside. This only takes 10 seconds! It reminds you that you are alive and breathing.

5. Move Your Body

You don’t necessarily have to do a workout before breakfast, but moving your body even a little is a great way to get the blood flowing and shake the body into wake-up mode. Simply doing a few stretches is a great option. Or turn on your favorite song and dance like no one is watching.

6. Take Time To Eat A Healthy Breakfast

Focus on getting whole real foods in your body. Eggs can make a great start to the day or 'Just Nuts'

Just nuts

7. Say Your Affirmations

Look into the mirror and say something positive to yourself.
For example - I feel great when I take care of myself.

Hope you all have a great day. You may have some other tips and ideas to share with us ... this article inspired by words from Krista Butler

All the best Jan

I definitely agree with getting some fresh air. I walk Archie first thing every morning and it really does wake me up, clears my head and sets me up for the day.

I agree this is a good post to read . . . I do 5 out of the seven so I'm doing pretty good. The fresh air comes from sleeping with my window open. Then the first thing I do in the morning is stand at the window and breath in that wonderful morning air. It is starting to get cold around here, so I might be closing that window very soon, but now that i read this, maybe I'll open it for a few minutes a just breath. It is amazing how much sweeter and air is in the early mornings.

I am on day three of starting a new morning routine:

1) Cup of hot herbal tea with ginger and lemon.
2) Bible study and prayer time
3) Stretch followed by 5-10 minutes of breathing / meditation and affirmations.
4) Breakfast smoothie with raw superfoods!

Thank you SOOO much for "healthily" instead of "healthy". I know I'm a grammar nerd, but that just makes me happy.

Hope you have a great day too. It's very pretty autumn day here, just the right amount of sunshine, mixed with a crisp breeze. Love it.

:-)) Well said!
I am doing pretty good. This was a good post. I do sometimes look at my phone, and I have been trying not to do that right away. I do drink water and exercise right away. I also eat a nice breakfast. Thank you for sharing.

Great list, Jan. I do many of these, but will concentrate on adding the others, like, breathing fresh air, and affirmations!

Many thanks for your comments, interesting to read them ...

Bet Archie enjoys his walk too ... I think it's great to get a morning walk in, the cup of tea when you return home always goes down a treat!

I always have a glass of water near by so refreshing and does re-hydrate.

You can't beat that early morning air - it somehow does seem fresher and sweeter!

You are doing well with those four steps ...

A warm welcome to the low carb diabetic blog.
So pleased you liked the article ... hope you may enjoy some of our other ones too!

That bat!!!
You have a great weekend too - been a little damp today but I did get out and about and the tress look lovely with their Autumn tints.

We do get into a habit of looking at our phones ... surely we can do without them first thing in the morning ... although many do use them for alarm clocks!
You do seem to have a good morning routine.

So pleased you found the list helpful ... many of the points can be so advantageous and easy to do, we just have to get into the routine of doing them!

Sorry I've set you a bit of a task! Just start off with one thing - then add a second and slowly build up. I'm sure you will feel the benefit for it.

Great to receive, read and share your comments.

All the best Jan
