How Much Did You Say !

The world's most expensive sandwich - would you pay £140 for this?

A restaurant in New York has started offering its discerning diners a sandwich that costs an eye-watering $214 (£140) - making it officially the world's most expensive sandwich.

Serendipity 3 chef Joe Calderone came up with the idea on National Sandwich Day and decided that creating a pricey grilled cheese sandwich, the "ultimate comfort food".

But don't go thinking you can just waltz in and order one. The restaurant needs 48 hours notice to serve the Quintessential Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Joe Calderone says: "We sourced the ingredients by looking for the finest and the rarest foods in the world."

The restaurant has had an impressive list of clientele since it opened 60 years ago with film stars such as Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly dining there as well as modern music stars Beyonce and Jay Z.

The bread used has been baked with Dom Perignon champagne, topped with grass-fed butter mixed with white truffle and the last integral ingredient is the rare Caciocavallo cheese.

But that's not all the meal has to offer. The sandwich is also served with a tomato lobster bisque in a crystal and glass and the bread is topped with 23 carat gold leaf when it comes out of the grill.

Taking it out onto the streets of New York, the reaction was undeniably positive with response including: "It's the best cheese sandwich I have ever eaten" and "It's delicious!"

But most said they wouldn't be willing to fork out $214 for the pleasure of another one, with one woman even saying: "Would I pay? Probably not, not with putting kids through college and high school."

... I'm sure it tastes delicious, well it should for the sheer size of the price ... but I will still be sticking with my low carb bread alternative here

When my son became a teen, he turned into a very style oriented person, and started to discuss clothes with me. Once, on his question why some brands costed SO MUCH? I said because some products target the part of our society which needs to spent money to feel good and special. That sandwich is from the same category - it serves the need to spend money on something what clever marketing declared special. The price is perfect for the purpose.

Oh Please.....you are joking.
I would rather give the money to someone who needs it.........
What a sad world we live in.....for most that would feed their family for a week or more.............

I think some people have far too much money for their own good if they'd even consider spending that amount of money on a sandwich.

No one should buy that sandwich until every single child on our planet has enough food to eat.

Never would I, even if I had the money. No way.

Sorry, but the comment left by NC woman is very naive. No, the money which were not spent on Apple watches, ridiculously expensive cars, $2000 handbags and $100 sandwiches wouldn't be automatically transferred to feed hungry children. In rich societies where people spend more money on unnecessary things more money goes not only on stupid luxuries, but also on charities. I used to live in socialism. Just trust me - capitalism is better, even though each system has own pluses and minuses. Government is never an efficial caretaker of vulnerable members of a society.
